White944 - Resurrection thread.

getting there Mike, I saw the car in the flesh at the start of the week, plenty to do keep it up don't loose the will to go on, Martin

Awww bugger. More rust.

Get the welder out again....
PTDC0266.jpg
Replicated the original 'rustic' sealant finish.
PTDC0273.jpg
Pending any other nasty surprises, that's all the welding done.

Blended in the rear quarter.....

And A pillar.....

Got sick of looking at the rusty scabs from around the number plate lamps spreading all over the rear panel, so sorted that as well.

Corroded areas back to metal, 2 treatments Kurust, 2 coats zinc primer, 3 coats high build primer, 3 coats white primer, 4 coats Alpine White. The original finish on this area was really thin Time will tell how long my effort lasts.

Good update, thanks. I think a-pillars are going to cause problems in the future, I would certainly take the front wings off if doing the bodywork again.

Door temporarily fitted so the front wing can be bolted up and aligned. Takes quite a bit of manipulation to get an acceptable fit in spite of the panels being original. Is it just me, or are the panel gaps on these cars always so bad. No sign of any major damage on this car, and I've managed to get a better fit than before I took it apart but still not 100% happy.

Already rigged a schutz gun to spray zinc primer inside the sills last weekend. Taped up all the vent holes so it oozed into all the seams slowly for 24 hours before letting it drain out and dry. Next it was time for some Dinitrol.....

I now have brown fluid oozing from every orifice, don't try this on dad's new block driveway, kids!

I now have brown fluid oozing from every orifice, don't try this on dad's new block driveway, kids! sounds like a bad track day

Not a huge amount of progress this week but front wing and badge panel repairs done and bolted up properly, starting to look like a whole car again.

Another busy week so not much progress, but eventually managed to replicate a fairly convincing finish in stone guard on the lower panels. Tricky though.

Coming along Mike - stonechip looks good. What type did you use and what viscosity/pressure? I used Tetrosyl when I did my MX5 sills and it gave quite a nice flat finish, but did react in a couple of places. Had been told Gravitex is good stuff.

I used a rubberised stonechip from Wayside Adhesives. Sprayed from a shutz gun at about 40psi, don't know viscosity, trial and error in this case.

Got some paint on the repairs today.

28 years of abuse and repairs have left it in 2 or 3 different shades but it'll do for now. I'm no painter so a full professional respray is on the cards next year if it behaves itself,

Been busy/skint for q while, but still picking away at it. Having been sat outdoors for 5 years, the brakes were looking somewhat the worse for wear...
PTDC0328.jpg
Front backplates were really crusty...
PTDC0329.jpg
Replaced them with new ones from Colchester Porsche, replaced discs and pads, replaced missing pad sensor wires, cleaned up calipers, fitted new hoses and replaced any corroded metal pipes.
PTDC0333.jpg
Gave the rears similar treatment, along with new parking brake shoes...
PTDC0334.jpg
Left with this rusty pile of scrap...
PTDC0350.jpg
Rotten fuel pump mounting plate and tank straps to deal with next.
