Who's using their car over winter?

Just wondered if many of you use your 964s over winter, presuming you have alternative transport. I've been told a few times recently that I should really leave the Porsche in the garage for the winter, though I'm reluctant to do so. I'm thinking of two problems that might deter winter use:
1. The ridiculous amount of salt chucked all over the roads - not good for bodywork etc
2: If you own a C2 like me, can be a bit of a handful when road conditions are poor.

Just curious as to what most owners do?

I tell myself that I'll leave it in the garage until it's dry and then, like the Alco, my resolve lasts only a few days.[:-]

Our car will get used all weathers, but will give it a careful power wash in the wheel arches/underneath every weekend though, this is pretty much what i do with all our cars, life is short, used to worry about salt and stuff but not anymore my attitude has changed, I Don't want to not use my car, snuff it suddenly, then some Git gets a mint car becuse i was careful,Going to Drive mine whenever i can!!This is not a practice run (life)....[:)][:)][:)] Also using the car can be said to be better for it than letting it stand still,Tyre flatspots, oil draining away leaving componets unprotected next startup....When you trade a car in makes no odds anyway i have found.

I'm using mine at least as much as the BMW workhorse I'm finding, in fact if I found myself in the position of having to sell one it might well be the BMW that would go. As it is I like the facility to drive in quite and comfort with sat nav, auto and cruise when I want to be relaxed and use the C4 other times.

I have always used my 911's as my main car rain or shine (or snow), will do the same this year, just be extra careful with the turbo boost on the icy roads!

Use mine as a daily driver. I'll give it good wash down once a week once the salt/grit comes out. I have a C4 and a must say it was great in the snow/ice last year.

Both our P's used alternately throughout the year;I only powerwash after Winter but use the normal hose everyweek,I have always, with all cars, sprayed under the wheelarch lip whilst rubbing away the roadmuck that collects there-particularly important on the nearsde..

I'll be using mine pretty often over the winter - just avoiding the worst snow days. Like a previous poster mentioned, life is too short. Driving my 911 makes me smile - and that's why I bought it... to enjoy it. It's not an ornament.

Just been to visit my elderly Mother pre crimble present drop its 560 miles return.3.2 Supersports are also a bit hairy in wet and slush but there isn't any yet .The old girl loved it ,so did the car for that matter.IT did about 27 mpg.Loads of fog and ijits who don't know how to handle it.Thats the biggest danger.Happy winter Porschering.

What a re-assuringly hardcore bunch you are! The biggest argument for using it is that I would suffer withdrawal symptoms if I didn't. I need to drive my 964 every few days to get my performance/handling 'fix'. The only other car that I used to actually miss driving was a BMW 540 with manual' box - outrageous performance. I suppose I'm lucky in that I've got other cars to use regularly - unfortunetley one of these is a dead rough Frontera 2.0. A truly horrible car BUT driving this for a couple of days helps remind me what a dream the Porsche is to drive.

I concur. "" If there's bad weather like this fog I avoid driving, but otherwise all seasons; it's all part of the experience.

Had our one out past few days in the fog, the weather doesnt worry me but stacking it would!

plus its not a nice site getting home to see both sides of a lovely guards red 964, white with crap!!!

18s going on tomorrow then it WILL be garaged :)

Funny that I've just taken my 18's off for winter, cup 1's going back on....I'll use mine as long as it isn't too salty,, and the roads aren't too wet, fishtailing is not for the faint hearted.

iv really only been driving it for the past few weeks but even in this greasy weather its a pretty solid car on the road

I use mine every day to the station and back.

I bought an old beemer to do this donkey work but it keeps breaking down. Besides, after a bad day at work the drive home always cheers me up. As long as you keep your entry speeds manageable in the corners (and have a good set of boots) then you've nothing to worry about.

My 964C2 is my every day motor..

but i use all my porsches all year around.. i hate to see porsches sitting in garages unused, feel it does them more harm than good.....[:-]

Eevryday.... have to give it a good power wash evry week as I live along a farm track. Fantastic car (C4) and would not change it . The only thing i have to do occasionally is use a battery conditioner as it only goes 15 miles a day.
