Windscreen wiper arms

Just called Exeter Porsche to source a pair of the wiper arms and was told that they are no longer available i.e. they don't make them any more. Any ideas where can I get a new pair from?

944Online sell them, although they're US based.

It isn't something I've really looked into but remember the above from glancing through their site.

Rats - that's concerning. NLA parts are not good news ... is it that OPC's will no longer carry them, or that they are not made anymore therefore stocks at other places will dwindle as well?

Are they the same as 968 parts? (I would have thought they are.) How old is the newest 968? 14 years? That's fairly new for parts to become obsolete.

Interesting - what's different? I thought that the cars were pretty much identical in that area?

Are they interchangable?

I noticed the wiper on the back of my 944 says FORD. Looks like a late 80's Escort arm to me. thought somebody had been a cheapskate or lazy...so proved right but now on the search for an original or happily accept a non OEM rear wiper if anybody has one.

I can't help with those "¦ anyone else?

Have you tried Porsch-apart? Breakers are likely to be a good source.

Its such a shame that I may need to order them from US. Just wonder if there is s different part# for the RHD models?

Charles, I had my 944 Lux in Porscheshop Halesowen in March this year for a chunk of work and, as part of the shopping list, I asked them to source 2 wiper arms ... I do remember them saying they were hard to come by ... but they got them in less than a week ... worth a call? Looking at the invoice ... their part number is 945.628.028.02 at £26.80 each plus VAT. I suppose I could/should have refurbished them, but one was beyond help. Good luck.

Out of interest, what happens to them that makes them useless? Is it a spline shaft on the bottom end, or something, which gets rounded off?

(Also would quite like to know what the difference between the 944 and 968 ones is.)

The arms are different shapes, the 944 has a lip on the top edge of the bonnet wich the 968 does not have. I have tried interchanging them but they are quite different.

Mine ones are still working. Its just the rust that is getting worse on both arms.
The other option will be to refurblish them I guess i.e. de-rust and paint etc.

Peter,

Intesting - thanks. I have never compared the front of a 944 with that of a 968, but has assumed that everything from the back of the headlights was the same. But then, the front of the bonnet will be different, so I guess it was a bit too much of an assumption that the back would be the same.

Charles - a refurbish may well be easier - it's what I would be looking at doing. (And if you meet with success then do write back and tell us how to do it - mine need doing in the same way!)
