windscreen wiper assembly removal tips required

thanks guys I'll let you know how I get on .For now I'm hoping the elastic bands hold up for the retest[:D][:D][:D]

The ball joint on the motor has worn on mine so I have been using elastic bands on mine for a year now, I keep a ball of them in the glove box and usually replace them once a month...it all works fine, there is even a groove around the motor housing that the bands sit in!

Seems a lot less hassle than replacing the motor.....

awful bit of design really.[:(] Pity there isn't a retaining clip or something.

I've added a tiewrap to my elastic band for added endurance and enhanced performance ![:D][:D]

I had this problem soon after I got mine over 2 years ago. Tried elastic bands but they didn't last long and of course only broke when you were driving in the rain. Reading up about it revealed that it is a pain of a job to do. As a better temporary measure I cut some aluminium sheet (an old advertising sign) and bent it into a box shape with an open side which sits around the joint and attaches to the lever. 2 years later it is still working perfectly.

that sounds like a good solution Keith. Any chance of a piccy ?

I looked at making some sort of clamp when I had this problem with my Lux but didn't come up with anything definitive and the car got written off soon after so I never solved the problem satisfactorily.

Its common problems like this that someone has surely found a good solution to which could be shared.

Yes, I'll post a picture. Haven't got the car with me today (got my wife's car as it needs petrol), so will probably be tomorrow.

Too dark when I got home for photos but, assuming my memory is correct, here is a diagram showing the shape I cut out and where I folded it:

I'll take some piccies tomorrow,

I agree it's a bit Heath Robinson, but it was meant to be a temporary fix, just not as temporary as a rubber band! However, it works, was easy to do, cost nothing and is largely hidden from view. Fixing it properly has gone to the end of the never ending "to do" list behind things that are more urgent, more interesting or more visible.
Having looked at it today I realise that I didn't even fold the end around the box bit, just folded it up. Here are the pictures:

thats excellent Keith. No reason to excuse it....it does the job and as you say it is surprisingly discrete.
Its a simple elegant solution and I'll be rigging up something similar myself until I can remove the wiper assembly when the weather is better.
Thanks for posting. Hopefully it will be usefull to others
