I had this problem soon after I got mine over 2 years ago. Tried elastic bands but they didn't last long and of course only broke when you were driving in the rain. Reading up about it revealed that it is a pain of a job to do. As a better temporary measure I cut some aluminium sheet (an old advertising sign) and bent it into a box shape with an open side which sits around the joint and attaches to the lever. 2 years later it is still working perfectly.
I looked at making some sort of clamp when I had this problem with my Lux but didn't come up with anything definitive and the car got written off soon after so I never solved the problem satisfactorily.
Its common problems like this that someone has surely found a good solution to which could be shared.

Having looked at it today I realise that I didn't even fold the end around the box bit, just folded it up. Here are the pictures:

Its a simple elegant solution and I'll be rigging up something similar myself until I can remove the wiper assembly when the weather is better.
