Wishbones!

ORIGINAL: woodymcnab
i bought a repair kit for the wishbonealljoint of my 1986 lux
but could not get a mechanic to do the work, not even my local porsche specialist.
he said the repair kits are no good and have a high rate of failure after a short time span.
best bet would either to buy a brand new one and swallow the cost or go to a porsche breaker and get a good second hand one. make sure the bushes are ok though or they will cost you another 45 quid (ish)
the second hand one will cost anywhere from £50 to £150 depending on the breaker.
hope this helps

For what it's worth the Rennbay kit has been perfect on my trackcar. My indie (RPMTechnik) and very happy to fit these kits.

Recently I need to replace one on my 944S, I ordered a rebuild kit from a UK vendor (as there wasn't time to get one from the US) who really messed me around and I ended up having to use Paypal to get my money back (I see he has now updated his website to show they are out of stock, so no one else should have to go through the same thing again, thankfully).

In the end I bought a used wishbone for £50 and it sailed through its MOT.

Any indie will have a supplier of re-built wishbones. Suppliers such as Porscheshop or Hartech do them. I've only heard horror stories from people rebuilding them at home unless they know what they are doing.

New is a very expensive way of doing it, but at least you'll only be putting in the labour every 20 years, whereas a used one could need replacing again at any time.
