Cappuchino?

Mark - still shaking my head 3 years on - that car was so bad Im still receiving counselling [:D] however if nothing else it doesnt half make you appreciate a decent car. And yes it was the god dam awful Cappuchino - why did I ever think it was worth buying -right Im off to sit in a dark room .

ok as well as worst five how about worst car you have owned.
mine was a mark 2 ford fiesta every other day it broke down, once the drive shaft popped out and the wheel feel off. I really hated that car. And what was worst i use to go flying with the RAF on weekends and it had private irish plates on it, so one day i returned to see a wheel barrow rolling towards the car ready to blow it up,i wish they had[:'(]

I always thought it looked fun[&o]

Mark you know I had that same feeling when I handed over my cash - it lasted about 2 days into ownership and the next 12 ish months where looking back so bad that I now drink Tea instead of Coffee and go green when I walk past a Starbucks [:D] the car really was appalling - everything failed - engines, electrics, bits dropped off - however it only lost about 60% of its value in the year I had it [&:]

Marc it goes without saying that the little Suzuki might just win the award of the worst car Ive ever owned

Hyundai Scoupe
AMC Concord
Yugo
Ford Fiesta
AMC Gremlin

Sad to say that American Motors probably could have swept this category with the Pacer, Eagle, and AMX, but I had to mention some other gems.

Surely British Leyland should finally been given their overdue respect in this catagory. I believe they deserve a clean sweep of the Top 5:

1. Austin Princess. Like who thought of that name (later changed to Ambassador). My favourite is the light metallic green one, like the triangles that you used to get in Quality Street, even these have been with withdrawn no doubt to the negative connotation.
2. Austin Metro/Montego/Maestro. Only ONCE I have not seen clouds on smoke emitting from one of these - I remember it clearly (pun intended) on the M1 near the Sheffield Meadowhall exit.
3. Allegro. There is a club for these, and the BL dressed up like a Rolls Royce - the Vanden Plas - is a highly sought after variant, their equivalent of an RS I suppose. "Ironic" these owners may be but I can only take irony so far thanks.
3. 1750 (aka Maxi). I had one of these as my first car and to be fair it was a lot of fun. But still crap. And it was Metallic green like the above-mentioned Princess!
4. 1800. My dad had one in the 70's then bought another in the early 90's from an ex-RAF pilot complete with handlebar moustache. It was burgundy with a wooden dash. Again not too bad, tried to be the BMW 5 series of it's day.

oh lord i've just thought of another

Austin Maxi i could never really tell weather they where coming or going. The front end and the back end looked the same, it was a shed on wheels. I'm guessing the designer was 65 plus and was really into potting plants.

Actually, the worst car I ever owned was my only non-German : a Maxi 1750! I paid the princely sum of £35 for it when I was 'between cars'. A bargain as it came with virtually half a car's worth of spares, from an elderly gentleman who'd owned it for 20 years and really nurtured it; there was zero rust. You'd be surprised how much fun it was to drive actually, and much more sprightly than the specs would suggest, if rather underwhelming in the braking department. And the most surprising thing of all? I went away to America for 4 months, leaving the car parked up outside - when I got back to Blighty, it started with the first turn of the ignition key.

One (the only?) cool feature of the car was the fact that the soft rear seats fold back completely flat to form a double bed in the back of the car, great for travelling except I probably wouldn't have trusted the thing to get me back home again - after all, it was an Austin!

Much of my early motoring life is being derided here! I learnt to drive in a Montego which belonged to my Dad, he also owned countless 10th hand Morris Marinas and Itals (countless because they kept breaking down and for some reason he replaced them with more of the same), my Uncle owned a Beetle and an All-agro and my best friends Dad had a Princess followed by an Ambassador. To cap it off one of my early cars was an XR2 Fiesta.
I had a very priveleged upbringing.

Similarly, most of the cars listed (certainly the Austins) have passed through my hands so I've kept out of this thread. I trust everyone else would admit they're speaking from experience? Come on now, don't be shy.

The Maxi 1750 I had was actually a pretty good tow-car (well, it seemed to be at the time) In fact the only decent car I had during my early years was a Scirocco, but I soon got that out of my system. Probably the best was a Hillman Avenger, christened the Rainbow Warrior because of a Greenpeace sticker on the boot. It received absolutely no 'care and attention' because it was dirt cheap and good fun. But it wouldn't break, no matter what abuse it got.

Just remembered being seriously impressed by my mates Dads Ambassador, I recall thinking that the dahboard looked like something out of an aeroplane it had so many lights.
Bear in mind that my Dads cars were lucky to have headlights, let alone lights behind the dashboard [:D]
Ahhhhh memories...

Anything with a SIMCA badge on it
Allegro in any form
Vauxhall viva estate (a vauxhall trying to be a hearse)
Capachino (although my wife loved hers)
New Jags

Sadly family members have previously owned the first four and the latter I just simply can't look at without pulling a face.
