North Yorkshire Dales Weekend
Hidden just off the M6 and bypassed by the many is a treat of spectacular views and roads that have been put together over the weekend of 3rd and 4th July.
To give people time to make their way to the location we have rooms available on the Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel near Blackburn, where the Spa and pool awaits... that and a healthy stocked bar! [;)]
Its hoped to allow members to travel from further afield the Friday night will allow a nice long weekend break.

Saturday the 3rd we have a route that includes some of the highlights of the surrounding area, these include the Ribblehead viaduct, Wensleydale cheese shop, Tann Hill which is the highest pub in Britain and the Stump cross caverns.

We hope to take lunch at the Tann Hill Inn.

The majority of the route is via some great weaving B roads, the route is approximately 160 miles in distance and about 5 hours of driving.

Saturday night we have a planned group dinner in the hotels private dining room. As a register it is hard for us all to get to meet the board but I'm pleased to say that the Register director has accepted our invitation to join us, so unfortunately we'll have to behave at this one...[:)]

Sunday we will attend the local regions Porkers in the Trough event which covers the Forest of Bowland and will be a more scenic trip for us. We will leave our hotel for a 30minute drive to the start point near Garstang, where Tulip maps will be issued to us all. The route makes its way through the Trough of Bowland to the Falconry centre where lunch of either picnics or the onsite cafe can be taken. The route follows the forest back to Garstang where drinks can be taken prior to departing for home. You will need to apply for an application form for the Sunday drive, I do have the forms to email.

The hotel http://www.mercure.com/gb/hotel-6617-mercure-blackburn-dunkenhalgh-hotel-and-spa/index.shtml has offered us rooms for the Friday and Saturday at just £75 per night for Bed and Breakfast based on two sharing. The Saturday evenings dinner prices start from £22.95 for 3 courses.
Booking will be direct with the hotel.- but please do inform me of your booking.

Many of you will have seen the other thread on the day out I had with local members on the way to Tann Hill and I hope it inspires you to come and see what the NW has to offer.

Shame this clashes with the Goodwood Festival of Speed having just accepted my VIP invitation from my local PC, would have liked to have joined the trip [:(] Mike.

Put me down for the weekend Gary. Not sure whether it will be +1 or not at this stage - as per e-mail!

Gary Was it something I said? All the good trips this year seem to clash with something we've booked. We're at the festival of speed that weekend, so can't make it I am afraid. Great drives up there - we did a week in the Lakes and a week in Yorkshire last year with a few runs over the passes to and fro - fantastic roads and some great cars to be seen. Rats

Gary thanks to you and Robert for your input and help getting the article published. If your up for a mid week run out sometime, give me a shout BTW - does Turbo Ted need a berth for the IOM? Clive - glad you enjoyed the article. Give us a shout when you are up in the FOS and we can meet up for lunch or something. We're there all three days No track articles yet - I need to get my behind down to the track for a few track days first. [:D]

Some of you may remember this... [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qS7Z1q9hL2I]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qS7Z1q9hL2I[/link] Much of this will be our Saturday afternoon route [;)] including the splash!! garyw

Its a shame you can't make it Helen. It does seem to be on a busy weekend for people, but it can work either way as in people come along or are already going along somewhere.. garyw

Hi Gary Enjoyed the 'pre run' on 23 April but unable to make this weekend - we are on our way through Germany to Venice, Florence and back via Lake Como. Randolph

Randolph, glad to meet up the other day, was a very good run out [:)] Sorry to hear you can't join us, I hope to be in Como in August [8D] via Alsace garyw

Sorry Gary, we're away as well, may even miss FoS this year, which will be a first.

I've moved this to the main area now. Plans are well advanced and I hope that many of the members from the northern regions will join us.. We do still have the rooms available for any people who want ot make a nice weekend of it.. garyw

A few more names added to the list, so looks like its going to be a cracking weekend of driving around the area.. I'm actually doing a coast to coast that week as my wife decided she wants to visit the North East during that week.. At least the roads make it a super trip.. [8D] garyw

A little reminder that this event takes place in a few weeks time. Hopefully the good weather will hold out for us over the weekend. The sunday event we are attending has now has just the last few places remaining. garyw

Fred has recently posted up part of the Sunday drive he did [8D] [link=http://www.youtube.com/user/tarmacburner2#p/a/u/1/2grFBd8VHoA]http://www.youtube.com/user/tarmacburner2#p/a/u/1/2grFBd8VHoA[/link] garyw

Doug The plan to leave the hotel for 10am. With the small numbers booked for the dinner on the Saturday night it has been decided to move the dinner into the restaurant where we will be able to choose the food on the night from the menu- rather than a pre-fixed menu [:)] We can only hope that the weather does hold for us all. Sundays event is now fully booked. I plan to leave the hotel on the Sunday morning for 9.30-10am to get to the start of the Sunday drive out but will discuss this with the group on Saturday. Saturdays drive is a convoy but I will provide maps, if you have your 2way radios do bring them, I do have 2 spare ones. Sundays is via maps but you can always just follow the car in front [:)] garyw

WOW!!! What a weekend.... You will see by me and Dave grinning like Chesire cats that the weather, company and roads were excellent [8D] I will certainly return in the future.... Doug, some great pictures there, I'll get mine off my camera and load them up. Todays the weather wasn't horrible enroute but it did rain for the Falconry displays [:(] The route for Porkers was very scenic and pretty and made for a great change from Saturday- well as in Saturday was pretty and scenic but.....[;)] We were held up by a KN that had a very brave driver taking it down the roads that narrow.... happily they took a wrong turn and we made some progress.... Overall a great weekend from start to finish. Our sincere thanks to Barry and Jean for joining us on Saturday night and showing us the way on Sunday morning [:)] garyw
