Yorkshire Moors Run 6th,7th and 8th May 2011

A weekend event starting on the Friday afternoon around Wetherby just off the A1 (York)
A driver's weekend taking in the excellent routes offered across the Yorkshire Moors. The roads picked have been chosen for the driving experience and to be able to take a 911 width. There is however the odd curved ball that distinguishes our usual type of event. There may be mud, there may even be stone chippings but guaranteed plenty of smiles and laughs over the weekend, that along with some of the UK best Fish and chips and a visit to the Seaside.

Friday 6th
See's us meet up at Wetherby services mid afternoon before making our way to the North side of the moors to our quality hotel for the weekend, via some great roads and part of the Northern ring stopping enroute to see some of the famous Monuments in the area. This route is a two hour drive and 73 miles.

Saturday 7th
Crossing the moors in various directions linking up some great roads for the driver and spectacular scenery for the brave... We have a few planned stops which include visiting Aidensfield in Heartbeat Country, from there we go racing!! Well to Oliver's Mount which is the British mainland's only natural "roads" circuit , well drive the circuit for the experience- let alone the amazing views at the top!! After catching our breathe we then go onto the spectacular views across Robin Hoods bay before finally ending the day in Whitby where people can spend the afternoon for lunch with its world famous Fish and chip shops. You are free to enjoy Whitby's attractions prior to the evenings dinner back at the hotel. The day's drive is 129 miles and about 4 hours of driving, which is less than some of our usual drives allowing an option of either visiting other attractions, relaxing at the hotel.

Oliver mount history information http://www.oliversmount.com/ thanks to Clive for the heads up..

Sunday 8th
Heading south through the Moors we travel to our visit for the day at Castle Howard on the outskirts of Malton, with its wonderful house and gardens and the Bistro and Farm shop- which I highly recommend (James Martin buys some of his foods there) From Castle Howard it's a 1.5hour drive to our end location just alongside the M62 allowing easy travel homeward bound. There is a Petrol station and fast food restaurant serving coffee to fill up prior...

The hotel details are available via emailing me and are based on a Bed and Breakfast for the Friday, then Bed, Breakfast and evening meal on the Saturday, room costs are £260 per couple for the weekend.
Unfortunately the hotel only has 8 rooms available but to allow locals to join us on the event it will be capped at 12 cars.

I do urge those in the South that these roads really are not to be missed- even if you don't manage to join us on this event.
Route maps and google maps will be emailed out prior, there may well be a Dawn raid on the Sunday morning ran by a local owner...!

Hi Gary

We would be interested having lived in the north east for a number of years and knowing how good the roads are over the moors not to mention whitby fish and chips.
We are likely to be moving house around that time when do you need to confirm the hotel

Geoff

The booking code will be with me first thing tomorrow, so rooms will be available to book from then...
Let me know Geoff

I was hoping to join you for the drive on Saturday (sounds excellent !!!) but having checked the calendar, seems I'm down for baby-sitting that day (wifey is out) and not sure the kids would enjoy it so much in the back of my car [:(][:(]

Gary
Would love to have been part of this, unfortunately I may not have had my car by then ( and there's no way I would try to keep up in the 964 ) and I have a wedding on the 7th.
Next time. Steve

Could you not get a baby sitter[;)]

Seems we can !!!!

Gary, if it's ok for me to join you just for the drive on Sat, pls could you mail me details of when and where to meet ??

Cheers,

Hi Gary, sounds like a great trip but it looks very much as if I won't be able to attend - roster is out 15 Apr but my suspicion is that I'll be somewhere other than the UK! Anyway it looks as if you've got a great crowd together already so have a great time, all the best, John

The booking reference is now available and has been emailed out to those that have inquired.

Was out over the weekend searching some decent roads and managed to come up on Doug (Oggy) doing similar things ! [;)]

He mentioned this run on the Saturday, if it's ok I would love to join him on the run up on the Saturday (no hotel needed) if that would be ok Gary ?

Ian
Yes, no problem...

Andy, it was looked at running this event a week later being as it did clash with the IOM trip, however I doubt many would do both the IOM and then the Yorkshire drive to be fair..
That and hotel accommodation were even harder to obtain!! [&:]

Gary, just sent you an email; regretfully I am going to have to cancel because our babysitting arrangements have changed and it looks like I'm back to Vegas on the 7th now for work. I've cancelled my room with the hotel just now - maybe another time [:(]
