This is normally a great success and an event that I had looked forward to all year. However it is a victim of its own success. I could not get there early and arrived around 11:45. Afetr queuing for 40 minutes I was still an estimateed 3/4 mile from the entry with no sign of getting there any time soon. I chose to give up and return home.
it was my choice, and I am sure I missed a great event. However if the organisers are going to sell 1000 car passes (I was number 997) can I make a request that the entry system is geared up for adequate access and parking.
John I am really sorry that you never made it to the event, and that the traffic was so bad.
We have always been assured by Lotherton Hall that we would not suffer entry problems and that they could cope with events far bigger than ours, and up until this year we have not had this problem.
We sold 700 passes (many more tickets were printed which is why the ticket numbers were high), which in itself is far bigger than we expected. I think that on the day we were a victim of both our success but also the extremely good weather, meaning that not only did many more cars turn up, but also Lotherton Hall itself had an extremely busy day. This meant that the entrance was blocked as cars had to stop at the booth and pay. Certainly when I was on the gate around 12.30 there were many more non Porsches than Porsches coming in.
None of these problems were visible inside the event as cars were arriving at a sensible rate and we were able to get them parked immediately. It was only later that we became aware of the problems, at which point Carol helped the Lotherton staff with the entrance. I and another member ended up on the road trying to keep the entrance moving and safe, not something that I am particularly happy about and definitely not trained to be doing.
As I have said above, we need to be carefully planning for next year, and we need to maximise the ability of the entrance to get cars in as fast as possible. However, with successful events there is always going to be a problem with traffic management, and I don't believe the solution is easy or that there is an ab absolute solution.
