Your RSJ dealer experience?

hi all,

i am negotiating to buy a turbo from rsj, which I have heard from many forums that they are top notch. I am almost ready to place a deposit but one sticking point really bothers me. They wouldn't allow their cars to go through the Porsche pre purchase inspection and instead suggest peter Morgan independent inspection. Their reason is that Porsche dealer often picks up things that is not needed to be fixed. I bought my current car from 911virgin and didn't have this problem. Am I worrying too much??

please can someone share their experience please?

thanks

kevin

Hmmm... that would make me wary. Ask if you can use Peter Tognola in Datchet near Windsor. I used him when i bouth my 964 4 years ago and he was very thorough. I would be less keen on going with anyone they recommend.

Without direct knowledge of the dealer or the Peter Morgan operation (now operated by a successor) I would say:

If you want Porsche Extended (Insurance based) Warranty you’ll need to put the car through the 111 point test at some time.

If you don’t, why not ask the inspector to include items in 111 point test that he does not check? Do you have a copy of the 111 point check list?

Ensure you are the client of the inspector, not the selling dealer.

Others may have recent experience of ‘Peter Morgan’ inspections (now porscheinspections.com)

Thanks for the quick replies :)
If it were an ordinary dealer then i would immediately say no. But rsj is supposed to be one of the best which makes me really puzzle why.
Also they mentioned that they will fix anything that the inspector picks up plus there is a no quibbles warranty for the first 3 months. i asked what if i let it through the ppi after the purchase and make rsj fixes the items on the ppi result... i just dont get the logic... pleade help me to justify buying it please:)

If they're confident in their car, I doubt they will wish to forego a sale for the sake of submitting it for a 111 point inspection. [;)]

As Ralph says you will need to get one done anyway if you're planning on getting Porsche Extended Warranty later, so you won't want unexpected expenditure at that stage.

If they don't comply -walk away. There'll always be another car down the line!
Regards,

Clive

They insist they wont as its company policy. But i just cant believe this. Can someone who bought from rsj verify this for me please?

Lol 'they won't allow it as it's company policy' as if their hands are tied. Joel is the company, he can do what he likes!

The problem is he may have a running relationship with Peter Morgan's company as he's there so often that's probably why he probably insists on him going.

FWIW I've had dealings with Joel and I've sent a few guys there who have bought cars from him. Quality cars, good guy and stands by his word. This just seems a bit odd.

Tell him you're not prepared to pay for 2 inspections because you want the warranty, so get him to pay for one of them?

This is an exact reply from Darren at RSJ:

We would fix everything Peter Morgan picks up on .

We have no affiliation with them.
You pay them directly and hey report back to you.
If Porsche then say it needs other things then we know it’s Porsche fishing for extra work that does not need doing .

FWIW as someone whose took advantage of a Winter Check by my local OPC they will be overly stringent, suggesting or insisting on replacing items that actually have a lot of life left in them, but which they as an OPC would also normally replace before sale, e.g. tyres at or near 3mm tread depth. A Peter Morgan inspection would be far more 'honest' about what really needs doing now, and what might need doing down the line. I can sort of understand RSJs position in not wanting to have customers scared off by an over zealous OPC, but if they've got that much faith in their product, they should let you have it inspected where you choose.

I would insist on the OPC inspection, especially as RSJ know that not everything the opc pick up is requires amediate attention, it would give you a good idea of work required in the near future.

Regards
Karl

If memory serves me correctly all RSJ cars come with a warranty which for the first 3 months or 3000 covers everything on the car. Get the car inspected post sale and if there is anything mechanically wrong return it to them to be fixed.

Thats correct but they categorically said anything that is flagged up by OPC inspection after the sale will not be fixed by their warranty

I dont want to take it to the extreme but i think what they mean is any stuffs like rust which hasnt got immediate issue or gasket that is aging with potential to leak kind of things. They wont fix coz they think its not fair to fix if its precautionary .

But i would have expected OPC is less thorough than inde. If OPC could potentially pick on something, that something would have been expected to be fixed anyway. If thry are as good as a dealer as people claim.

I dont really understand this and hence asking for others experience with them. I want to give them the benefits of doubt :)

By the way, do not think that you have any comeback with inspectors such as Peter Morgan. They have so many get out clauses In their contracts that going down that route would be fruitless. I think Peter Morgan is very good, I'm just saying.

I bought my 997.2 from Joel at RSJ 2 years ago and I found them to be very good however Joel did pull my pants down on my part-ex'd 997.1 and gave me £1000 less than we'd agreed to after his man had given it the once over, I had the same experience at Dove House in the 00's with a Part-Ex Boxster 986 to a 987 - just normal practice to get you there when finance numbers were all agreed and then shaft you for extra
After sales was pretty good though, had an issue with the balancing of my upgrading wheels and Joel paid for it no questions asked
Will look to go back to him next summer, just hoping he'll get some 991's!

I see. Thanks for your feedback. I have decided not to go ahead as i really want to have the porsche extended warranty
