Great thread, thanks for the pics Paul.
Interesting to see, on the steel monocoque car, they didn't feel the need to brace the strut towers transversely across the engine bay - simply triangulating them rearward towards the bulkhead.
Perhaps they didn't have room with the 16v head and manifold.

Triangulation to bulkhead provides far greater rigidity that an untriangulated bar between strut tops. Strut braces are generally the bolt on market solution, much loved by Saxo drivers.[;)]

Yes, the biggest problem with strut braces in my veiw is that they are often hinged which will still allow for realitive movement of the strut towers due to the paralellogram effect as the body twists. Sort of defeats the object really, though people who fit them usually swear blind they notice a significant difference.

Unfortunately some of these race cars often have very little 944 DNA in them by the time they are finished. They usually end up steel tubular framed chassis with a body that happens to resemble a 944 exterior shape.

FWIW, I was at Auto Classica this year and there is a lot of this kind of kit there.
interesting ol' stuff
I also heard a veyron running on one stand there, it sounded like a big wooden football banging around inside a metal dustbin - it was ticking over - wow, - but what a naff interior. McLaren F1 for me all day long, [8|] just have to wait for the Chineese to start making them

A bit OT here, but since they're in the pic's. Does anyone know where to get a good set of those headlight delete kits from? The ones with the clear plastic lenses.
thx
Patrick

This site seems to sell some nice products, but I hope your German is upto scratch!!

Good find Scott. I've been looking for a good set of fixed headlights for ages. The picture makes it look like they're designed for the Turbo shape covers, which for me is a shame.

Gotta love Babel Fish translation "Inserting/orientation/attaching/fun have!"

Babelfish translates as follows[FONT=verdana, geneva"][&:][&:][&:][&:][FONT=verdana, geneva"]Owing to the small weight of approx.. 2.4 kg per set are these headlights not only for racing already nearly must, but please now also the Porsche driver with road permission. Owing to a test character, the use is possible in the traffic! Since the headlights in the GTS Look at the original fastening spots are installed, any drilling work is void. Inserting/orientation/attaching/fun have! Price: EUR 539, - Spare disks are available 99, -? per sentence[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Rereading it I see that they list them for 924/944, yet they're pictured on a Turbo or S2 which is quite different. Either they've got two designs or they must be a bad fit on one or the other.

Now I recognise that translation. I've acutally come across that site before and done the same babel shift. I had contacted them to no reply. I would really be interested in purchasing some of these if anyone here know's German or have dealt with this company before?? I would be prepared to pay a fee if anyone can secure me a set of these. I will pay upfront.[;)]

These fixed headlights are really elusive, well good ones at least. I've read bad things about the GT Racing ones, VZ discontiuned there's due to fitment issues and the Club Autosport ones have nice buckets but the lenses on the pair I've seen are a dreadful fit.

These are the nicest looking solution I've seen as they seem to have a much better design for supporting the lens, far closer to the original factory design in appearance, and I'm certainly interested in them too (particularly if I can see a close up of the fit on an early fronted 944).

Never mind the GTS lights, look at the lexan rear screen pre-fitted into a rear frame thats been re powder coated [8D] Looks very good quality and the current exchange rate makes it ÂŁ380

I agree Paul, I've always liked what I saw on that site and have sent them another email but I'm not holding my breath. That's why I was hoping that someone over your way had done some previous business with them as they (to date) seem loath to even reply to me. We shall see. I'm trying to think of a German speaking friend. Bloke in a cafe down the road is German and he says his father has a 3.8L Audi motor in a 944? Maybe I should check with him. Be nice to get some more info on Dad's car as well.[:)]

It all looks good - the rear screen, side quaterlights, front splitter, castor mount strut brace and the fixed headlights. There is a chap in my office who lived in Germany for a few years and speaks the lingo fluently. I might send him the link and ask him to give them a call to suss them out.

If the purpose of the lights is to see where you are going, are our pop-up's not a better solution? [8|]

I cannot imagine these lights are effective, BUT they look quite nice on the right car. If they were standard fit, I would definitely be interested in a Pop-up Kit.....[:D]

George,
I'm sure that there are various strength globes HiDs etc that would shed enough light to get by on, however the reason that I'm very keen on them is a matter of removing all the mechanism underhood associated with the pop ups for space and weight reductions. Scott, I'm prepared to pay someone 100 squids (Don't have pound symbol on keyboard[:D]) if they can get a hold of one, maybe even two sets of these lights. I will pay in advance for the purchase of course.

I'm watching this thread with great interest, I was about to email them but I'll wait to see what response you get first.

Well I've still got nothing. Maybe they don't respond to emails in English or from Australia. Peter by all means see what you can come up with. I'm sure if we had someone either fully fluent in German or in Germany itself (or both) we would have a better chance. I'll try tomorrow morning at the Cafe with the young German guy and see if he can help out.

How about a group buy next year? - or maybe someone could talk nicely to a friendly supplier - Simon @ Essential for example?

My car budget might be ready for a bit more exercise by then...

Will do Patrick. Given your experiences I'm doubtful they speak Engilsh, but it's worth a shot.

I mentioned these to Simon yesterday as I know he's been looking for some for his own car. There could be quite a few of us after them in total [:D] (but I still have reservations about the fit on the Turbo's and S2's)
