sorry to say but that is exactly the attitude which makes people not trust each other at all. big boy rules my ass. you really don't want to go there. this is not 6 months later. this is 4 hours later. i've been selling things for years from clothes to motorcycles and i never had this attitude. this is really starting to annoy me, even more than the car situation. so am getting off this thread. at the end of the day its between myself and Jim and our conscious. no one else. what a pointless discussion. not even one piece of advice. only nonsense.

Soli, the best piece of advice is to await a full run down on the issue with the car from a professional outfit - I'm sure Tower will keep you right here. Then, you'll be informed on the full nature of the problem and the extent of repairs required. I don't think anyone is deliberately trying to annoy you over this. Like I say, fingers crossed you get better news than you expect.

A very unfortunate and blameless incident.

It's very clear that both Soli and Frenchy are upset about it. I hope the damage is not too expensive.

Russ

thats why i never started a discussion on the forum. i never thought for one second Jim did anything wrong. and i am still following his advice to the letter to fix this properly. everything else is just hot air

Tower porsche seem to have a good rep with 944s so am sure they will sort it properly. Unfortunate but upside is at least you know it will be nice and fresh going forward and you won't have to worry about it. You should have bought his black S anyway [:D]

Ooooh, now the S does sound special!

On a happier note and slightly off topic, have you decided to keep the S2 Andrew? :).

It's been in storage for a few weeks but picking it up again Friday so will actually be able to show some people the car. Got two people interested. One is coming Monday for a look. Not fussed though...if it doesn't sell I will hang onto it. It's a fun car. How is your turbo going? Looks the business. I do want a turbo at some stage. I investigated a 400bhp/400lbft of torque project with jmg recently.......[:)] I am tempted to by ex skylines car and tweak it a bit more.

Whooa,
People, shit happens, why would i have a headgasket hanging around ? it was picked up recently after Alasdairs clearout of spares amongst a ship load of other bits including a Silverose bodyshell.
I wanted this car to be as right as possible, yes it has a few daft jobs required to make it perfect, non working sunroof and a few other gremlins, i volunteered to change the belts and insisted it was done before the car was for sale as they were due, i specifficaly did this so as not to have it let the new owner down the car was on the ramps at a friends gargage all day a couple of weeks ago 9.30 until 18.30 and everything checked and sorted if required, along with an annual anti corrosion treatment, the car was used the previous day to sale in stop start traffic and open roads with no issues, then sailed the MOT as always if i had known or suspected a dodgy HG it would have been changed at the same time as the belts, your half way there to pulling the head whilst the belts are off, total cost to me would have been £200 with cam box gaskets inlet and exhaust manifold gasket fresh oil and antifreeze, i am tripping up over new oil filters in the garage not exactly a fortune or a big deal.
That said when sorted you will have to go a long way to find a never damaged, never welded, all original panel 86 turbo with mint paint, wheels and an excellent interior and a history from near enough day 1 along with every MOT and i have known the car and it's owner since 1996.

I was more than pissed to when the "specailist" has said i most have known about the HG problem, said bloke has never even seen the bloody car, nor does he know me from Adam.......Kin Donkey,he is not a marque specialist and doubt he has ever owned or spannered on one.

I have told Soli that i will be surprised if Tower Porsche do not comment on the condition of the car.

Like the Arthur Daley thing Mr Ruddy could have put money on that !

When I said you had a lot of spare parts I didn't realise you'd bought another bodyshell!!!!

My Turbo is going very well, with the new tyres and other little additions (service especially (I was surprised there!)). ATM however it is its turn to go into storage :(. Saying that, it has covered almost 1,000 miles since its last MOT (January), and the Stag really is not that far from being 'ready' and out of the two I'd rather the Stag went. Yes I may be downsizing the fleet, but I'd rather use my cars rather than leave them parked up, as per the reasons in another thread on this forum :).

Dave, a mate of Mertin's bought it, we came away with a ton of stuff, myself, Martin Steve Bradburn and Mike Moore can use it ehen we need it, we have a ton of indicator/light stalks, switches relays, gaskets and seals etc
Trim bits and seals etc.
Do not ever buy another switch or relay for a nominal fee one shall be put in the post for you, all except DME [:(]

Frenchy, I'm after an indicator stalk for the S2.....only want it if it won't break immediately I fit it though! [:D][:D]

Joking aside (sorry, probably not the best thread for a joke [&o]), this is a really unfortunate story. But, it's an essential part of owning a 944 that you appreciate you're paying a quarter, or even less, of what you would expect if you were after an equivalent 911. And, that 911 wouldn't be as good a car, no offence to 964 owners of course. Unfortunately, most of the running/restoring costs are the same, so it's harder to justify the 944 if you only look at purchase price.

Think of any other car from the '80s. Can you name one that's anything like as good a driver's car, for under £10K? Let alone as well supported for parts, or as well-built.

Soli, you must feel gutted that your first drive ended badly, and I know how hard you looked for the right car. Personally, I think you bought one of the best, and it should have been a £15K car if the market was better. Whatever you put in to the repair, it's money well-spent. Assuming you look after the car it will always be one of the best-known in the 944 community, and that counts for a lot when you come to sell it.

I think this is the first time in ten years or so that I've seen such an unfortunate bit of timing from a HG. No-one could have predicted it, and the specialist saying otherwise should be ignored.

Paul, bear with me and i will get a look in the box, you are aware that they come as one unit, an easy fit, will get back to you at the weekend...........no warranty implied or given !
Seriously though if it does not work it will get swapped for one that does, indicator not cancelling ?

indicator not cancelling

No. Damp has played havoc with all the electric in my car this winter.

If I flash the full beam, all the lights go off. VERY scary on an unlit counrty road, for both me, and the oncoming car....[]

It all comes on with a bit of wiggling the stalk, but it's not getting better so has to be replaced. Initially it was when indicating as well, I think there are a few people around Cambridge who tell tales of a 944 ghost car that signalled left, then vanished, one dark night last year!

What reasons and, what thread would that be then Chas'?
Soli', didn't mean to "rain on your parade" mate [8|]. Just seen your response and thought I'd answer. All I meant was, we all buy
944's as toys, weekend cars, track day weapons etc because we like the actual car itself. personaly speaking, I don't like modern
cars or vans and only like to buy and drive old/older classic's. Because of this, I fully understand that after having a test drive and
agreeing the money side of things and, doing the paper work and, sorting out the bill of sale, the responsibility is purely on my
head. If it goes pop 4 hours, 4 days, or 4 months down the line then, that's just part and parcel of old classic car ownership and so,
I take it on the chin [:)]. Nothing more was meant by my comments and, I am fully aware that you never started the thread, Jim'
did. I have had dealings with Jim' in the past and, know him to be an honest Gentleman when having a business agreement with
someone. Iv'e never sold clothes or, motor cycles before but I have sold (and purchased) dozens of old cars before. Sometimes
they have been great from the off, sometimes I never even made it home []. I feel for you mate, it's a bugger when you get
an added expense that you are not expecting right at the beginning of a new chapter! I hope it all goes well with the head gasket
and, it don't cost you too much to run from now on. Good luck with your new 944. [:)]
Pete'.

Basically, things beginning to go a little iffy (Stags do not do well from being stood (various leaks can occur, sometimes almost terminal to the engine, a little like Mazda RX-7s and water seal failures when being shipped, in the case of the Pug, I ended up changing the brakes (discs corroded quite badly, and took out the pads) and various electric bits from it being stood)), in addition to being able to spend more cash and time on one or two cars instead of three :). The thread I was referring to how far does one go in restoring a car :). How is your 951 going?

Anyway, may the blip in Soli's ownership be a minor one, and may I catch up with you in June on the Hoon Pete :).
