Upto date info from Derek,

"We hope to arrange a rather ambitious trip out to the Cotswold Airport on Sunday May 26. Pistonheads meet with their Exotica at the AV8 restaurant normally on the last Sunday of the month for brekkie: http://www.av8-cotswoldairport.co.uk/. So we thought it a good idea to join them, but at the same time arrange a little flying (weather permitting) for our own members. The format will be: meet for breakfast, then perhaps fly in ex RAF aerobatic trainers in formation. Very Red Arrows stuff. I might also arrange a visit to the last surviving Bristol Britannia at the same time. There will not be a charge for the overall visit, but breakfast will set you back about a fiver (excellent value) and if you wish to fly I will ask you to contribute a token towards petrol for your flight. The true cost would be circa £100 as at present aviation fuel runs at £2.10 per litre. So I think I'll set the contribution to about forty quid, with an additional voluntary contribution going to the local air ambulance: http://greatwesternairambulance.com/. We of course, as motorists, hope never to use their services, but if we do, we are extremely grateful. Contact me or James if you wish to join us. Let me know also if you require breakfast and/or a flight. First come first served!

More details when I get them. But the Britannia is confirmed and so far I have 5 aeroplanes."

We have already had a bit of interest for this event. The numbers for flights are limited so get in early.

The list so far:
Derek and Su
James and Carolina
Malcolm (flight) and Jenny
Peter Kirton.

I will presume that anyone coming will be having breakfast unless they state otherwise.

Unless I can get more aeroplanes (possible), the limit for flying is 10. So we have 5 victims (oops, volunteers) so far. I don't want to offer more than two sorties per aircraft, as most of the pilots will be flying in and departing out afterwards.

I of course will be flying in my Bulldog and Su will be in another as official photographer.

All this is weather permitting, but even it it tips down, the drive/meet, breakfast and trip round the Bristol Britannia will still be on.

The list will close on the 19th of May.

Derek

ps anyone else with an aeroplane is most welcome to join is (unless it is a 747)

Hi Derek

Can you put me down for this? Better to be in the air than watching it from my back garden

Best

The plan for the day is as follows:
9.00 Arrive for for the Piston Heads breakfast meet.
9.30 Breakfast
Then we will go to the Bristol Britannia for a guided tour by the XM496 Preservation Society who are dedicated to the preservation of XM496 the only fully complete Bristol Britannia in full RAF Transport Command Livery. http://www.xm496.com/. We recomend that everyone attending the tour make a small donation around £3.
11.00 the flying will start with the first group, the second group at 12.00.
Due to the commitment of planes and piliots we are asking that those who would like to fly pay a full deposit. This will be in the form of a cheque made payable to PCGB. On the day this cheque will be returned and you are able to pay with cash on the day. If you do not turn up your deposit will be lost. The ammount will be £50 this includes a £10 donation to the air ambulance. Please remember that the flying will be weather dependant but if it is cancelled the cheques will also be returned. Everything else will go ahead. If any one wishes the AV8 is also open for lunch and you can book individually and spend some time watching the planes (hopefully in the sun).

I will presume that every one attending will want breakfast unless otherwise satated. Also if you would like to fly please state it on here and email us. Due to the interest in this event we are limiting the flying to one per member, but I will put you on the reserve list for the second place so there might still be a chance.
The list so far:

Hi Mark, with only 10 slots available I cannot promise two for you.sorry. I'll review this nearer the date, but expect it to be over subscribed.

I was hoping to attend but it seems we're going to be in Egypt. Have fun and I hope the sun shines for you.

Ah, didn't see the 1 per member (although we are both members).

Would appreciate being let know nearer the time as I don't want to deny Claire the opportunity []

I now have a little more news:

Aircraft promised so far

1. Two Scottish Aviation Bulldogs. I hope to get 3 more.
2. Two Cirrus (1 SR 20. 1 SR22)
3. Beagle Pup (maybe two)
4. One Robin
5. One Jabiru

That make a possibility of 11 aeroplanes. Let's hope the weather is good.

So far I have only 3 cheques. Though the deadline for booking the flying is a week before, with potentially maybe only 10 slots available to fly and many more wanting to fly, it will be first come first served with your cheques. If you don't sent a cheque (made out to Porsche Club Great Britain) you are not on the list!

Just to remind you, the cheques will not be cashed, unless you don't turn up or the weather precludes aviation. Payment on the day will be cash (£40 pilot + £10 air ambulance). Each pilot will be forking out upwards of £300 from his own pocket (fuel + landing fees etc), so not a bad deal really. One pilot has already asked that his eighty quid (2 flts) should all go to the air ambulance.

Incidently, If you went to a commercial company for this treat, you would get little change from a couple of hundred quid. So not a bad deal [;)]

Pay for your own brekkie and bring a few quid for the Brittania Resoration Trust.

No fee or booking required for just turning up and ogling, but I would like to know how many for breakfast. [:D]

Cheques to me at 9 The Farriers, Southrop, Lechlade, Glos GL73RL

I have just been informed by the Civil Aviation Authority that I cannot fly passengers on this event [] It would also seem that this rule was introduced when UK became subject to EU EASA regulations (European Air Safety Arrangements) :

http://www.ead.eurocontrol.int/eadbasic/pamslight-629FFFF971D10F275A79A70FAE527FBC/7FE5QZZF3FXUS/EN/AIC/W/104-2012/EG_Circ_2012_W_104_en_2012-07-12.pd

PAH!

So this event is under review. If sufficient members still want to join Pistonheads for breakfast, then look round the Britannia, I continue with the arrangements. We might even arrange a lunch/drive to follow.

Hi everyone... Good news

We have found a way round the impasse. We just don't contribute anything to the air ambulance. Then everything is totally legal. Silly or what? Of course, if members or pilots wish to make a private donation, then who am I to stop them.

So, it's all back on and I will just need forty quid in cash on the day from everyone who wants to fly.

Pay for your own breakfast, send a cheque to an air ambulance (if you wish), drop a few quid in the charity box at the Britannia (nothing to do with the flying) [:D]

So far I have only 3 cheques which I have not destroyed. First come first served with a cheque for £40 will go on the list.

Hi Guys

Having advertised this for many months and with just 3 weeks to go to the event I am quite disappointed that I have received only 3 cheques as deposits for flying. It is sadly a common thread for many PCGB events that chaps do not want to commit until the very last moment. I understand why. I am as guilty as the next. However though many of you have indicated that you wish to fly, few have backed up requests with a deposit.

Consequently, for my pilots to commit to bringing their aeroplanes to Kemble, at their considerable own expense, I need to be sure that their time and money is not wasted. Thus I am going to close the list for flying by next Tuesday 7th. If I have not received your cheque for £40 by then, you will not fly.The list will remain open for the rest of the events planned until Sunday 19th as previous stated.

Just to remind you, the cheques should be made out to Porsche Club Great Britain (not PCGB) and will not be cashed unless you do not turn up.

Derek
