718 Cayman GT4 is here – at long last.!

I've used them on several occasions over the last few years (about 7) and have had no problems, they do source tyres from all over the continent, it is worth checking the date manufactured if buying a tyre that has been around for some time, I bought some Cup 1's for the RS that were 2 years old but I guess where and how they buy is why the prices are good.

I would not expect you to have a problem as they are well established.

Thanks Geoff

i cant see the date of manufacture when ordering unfortunately.

It does say in the Ts &Cs that new tires are less than 3 yrs old though. I will probably take a leap of faith and order the rears from them as the fronts are cheaper on bcircles.

I have ordered the fronts from bc and the rears from Tyreleader

PS4S total cost £930.82 plus £100 to fit

Hopefully delivery will be smooth and no hassle. Thank you all for your advice. looking forward to some winter driving soon 😁👍

Am sure the date will be OK. They’ve only just started fitting them in N0 spec in the last 12 months for the rears. Good call on doing the fronts closer to home!

Peter ...

Are you aware of the Michelin offer of £100 of vouchers - four tyres purchased by close of business this coming Monday. Not sure if / how it works by using different suppliers ?

Just heard that my rears are due in on Tuesday :p

Thats what I thought Richard, cheers.

Andy, problem is the rears are not in the UK from what I can see.

will let you all know how I get on. Hopefully the car will stay on the road with PS4S. Cup2s are far too slippery on our Yorkshire Lincs winter roads. I was having to watch the tpm until the tyres had gained .2 bar so they were warm 😁

Pointless comparison IMHO. Much the same as comparing a pint of beer with a pizza - both are nice, which would you rather have?

I’m inclined to agree with you Dave, with journos clutching at straws just to get something into print. I suppose that they’ve done all of the obvious comparisons, both in-house with the 992 and with the competition. How about a 718 GT4 versus GTS 4.0?

Incidentally, has there been a Panamera versus Taycan comparison? An obvious back-to-back test I would have thought?

Jeff

I've not seen any of the big guns do a GTS 4.0 vs 718 GT4 direct comparison, nor Panamera vs Taycan. Maybe Porsche won't allow them access to the press cars for such a test?

How about a 718 GT4 versus GTS 4.0? - Jeff

Discussed the very same with local OPC`s Senior tech last Friday ... only thing to separate them is that the GT4 is / feels `special`

Drove some sushi at the weekend, that was also extremely `special` ... and < half the base price of those. Similarly, use for track days does not affect the warranty :p

That seems to be the most likely explanation Dave. You can imagine the marketing department’s nervousness on both counts!

Well it seems I've got a provisional dyno day of Friday 18 December. Watch this space, I'll post the results when I have them. I'm guessing at 420bhp, a slight increase over the 414bhp the car should have had as standard...

Results are in. 433.8bhp @ 7689rpm...

Although Porsche’s claimed power figures are always conservative, that’s a more than decent figure Dave, and illustrates the benefit of a freer flowing exhaust.

Jeff

Yep, 20bhp is a nice bonus as I was only after some more noise. The car must be hanging on to more torque for longer.

It goes like a husky dog now, so no surprise in the figure from my side [:D]

David,

That's a useful bhp boost resulting from your mods, even allowing for individual dyno calibrations. A before and after test on the same dyno would be ideal.

My personal interest is in the torque graph stats. Your LWF would undoubtably alter the profile of the torque graph and rev range plateau. Did your test reveal this?

Brian

I've not looked at it in that much detail Brian, but peak torque is 424Nm @ 6004rpm and the runs were done in 4th gear.. The stock car is supposed to have peak torque between 5000-6800rpm and according to the graph my car has over 400Nm from 4750rpm to the redline at 8000rpm. The 718 GT4 is artifically limited to 420Nm due to the limits of manual gearbox, so by the look of it my mods have maintained the torque above 6800rpm compared to stock.

That's my layman's view of it anyway!

Thanks for your feedback David.

Your account is comparable to my previous experience with LWF mods, albeit on far less sophisticated machinery. I would guess that your GT4 will pick up more briskly from progressive throttle corner exits on the track compared to the stock car. The wider torque band you mention confirms this.

The impressive bhp improvements are, in my humble opinion, due to the combined effect of the exhaust modifications and the LWF. The driving experience as you say will be significantly more enjoyable as a result.

You have done a great job. Well done.

Brian
