718 GT4 Build Advice

Oh. I’m also stuck using the below to get up to my road/drive until the final tarmac is laid, otherwise I’d catch the front splitter. Does take a little of the shine off of it, faffing around with scaffolding boards. (The kerb drop+incline angle isn’t obvious on the picture).

Mine is due to arrive at Wilmslow today and I am hoping to pick it up next Tuesday. Given that I sold my 992 at the end of August, it feels like it has taken forever...

How are you finding the sound of the car and the gear ratios?

 
Move went well thanks, we’re really happy to be here. It’s so nice to be outside the city and have luxuries like, a garden ;). I will have to pop along for a morning drive/coffee or something when possible. Did you say there was a whatsapp group for the region?

I also sold my base Cayman in September so I know how you’re feeling, itching to get back into something!

The gear ratios don’t bother me, they’re the same as they were in my previous 718, I can see why they would for some but for me they don’t detract any joy of driving. The exhaust is an interesting one, it’s quieter than my previous Cayman (though cabin noise inside is probably louder with everything else going on).

I think the exhaust is quieter for two reasons, firstly the OPFs have no doubt had an effect so they’ve muted some of the tone, and killed the pops/crackles you would get on the overrun, secondly the exhaust flap mapping to keep the valves closed between 1800 RPM and 3800 RPM in line with the new noise regs. That said, I am taking it easy and keeping below 4000 for the first 100 miles, but when I have touched 4000/4500 it does sound great, actually. I suspect the solution will be to get some more miles on her, and maybe disconnect the vacuum lines to the exhaust valves so they’re always open, I think that would make a big difference for the cost of some M6 grub screws.

Longer term I might go visit 9m for an exhaust like another certain yellow GT4 did, but it’s not a priority for me at the moment. Installing some brackets to slightly recline the buckets will be my first job.

edit - I also see your comments about the gear ratios in the other thread, I wouldn’t worry about them, too much time spent watching reviews in anticipation perhaps? [;)] It may well be something you wouldn’t have noticed if not for all the comments from critics. I don’t believe it will detract from your joy of owning the car, and personally, having driven a 992 C2S and a GT4, I much prefer the GT4 as it feels a lot more raw, more rewarding to drive. I suspect you just might prefer it too!

haha, if not for our wedding next year (who knows at this rate?) then maybe, but pretty sure I’d be in a reasonable amount of trouble if I got that first :ROFLMAO:

Quite possibly! I'm looking at doing Donington, Anglessey, Oulton and Silverstone. Just waiting on the dates which should be published next month I guess.

Might see you knocking about, I live not too far away from yourself and Martin. I think I may have bumped into Martin at a petrol station a year or so ago when I was in my 981 GTS...

My drive drops quite steeply to the road but I can nudge gently on to the road without scraping by exiting at quite an angle. My 981 GT4 would scrape it's nose slightly but surprisingly the 718GT4 does not even though the splitter looks longer.
