718 GT4 Service Costs

Cheers Andrew! Those prices seem incredibly high:

2yr: £625 -> £913.20 -> 46% increase

4yr: £975 -> £1545.68 -> 59% increase

6yr: £775 -> £1261.99 -> 63% increase

So if they're a non-fixed price OPC it'll certainly be worth finding one that does participate! At those price I'll haggle and get an OPC for the 2yr then see how they compare at 4yrs to my preferred Indy. £1500+ is nuts for a 4yr old car.

Those prices are fixed price of late 2019 vs full price of today and are 981 vs 982 ... hence not a true comparison

Current fixed price for 981 GT4 6yr (same as all other 981 Cayman 6yr) is £870 vs £1044 full price. An ~ £100 increase in fixed price over that of late 2019 - the current full price is however unchanged from that time !!!

................

I have found one ... owned by the same people but operating under totally different business models due to location and client base.

I started this investigation two years ago when I compared - participating to non participating to Porsche Approved Independent ... outcome being that the non participating price matched to the participating which was the same as the Approved Indy :rolleyes:

What the fixed price system does / did ... it reduces the OPC labour rate as the parts prices from all were the ~ same !

If you look at RPM Technik`s price guide you will find much the same as the OPC Fixed Price System (no 982 GT4 yet quoted)

RPM Specialist Cars system is similar but a little incomplete in it`s details for what parts - when

Andrew,

RPM Technik’s prices are rather high for an Independent but I know that they only use genuine Porsche parts and they give Club members a 10% discount on labour.

Gotcha, cheers. It would be good to get the fixed price schedule but Porsche don't seem to want to publish it any more, plus they don't even mention it on their website.

Are we sure it still exists?

Dave,

I case you missed it here’s my recent post on another ‘Cayman servicing’ post:

On the subject of fixed-price servicing, I noticed something in the February PP. On page 96 there’s an official Porsche advert entitled : Total transparency. Clear service pricing from Porsche. It refers to “Our new service pricing packages …” and points the reader to finding out more at your nearest participating Porsche Centre. The packages include scheduled maintenance such as a brake fluid change, filters, plugs and drive-belts, which is to be welcomed. It’s a pity that participating Centres aren’t listed. In my experience those in the Porsche Retail Group are significantly more expensive than most other Centres, which must be due to their very high labour rates since part prices and job times will be set by Porsche.

Jeff

Yes, all rather vague Dave. Assuming the advert was placed by Porsche Cars GB it seems very odd to me that the Porsche Retail Group don’t - as far as I know - adhere the the fixed price servicing scheme, although I don’t understand the relationship between the two parts of the organisation.

It seems as though the customer is left to find out for themselves whether or not their local dealership participates in the scheme because, as you say, there doesn’t appear to be anything online.

My contacts at both centres indicated that it is but was not available as published previously ... I was considering asking Porsche GB

As previously, the non participating centre offered to consider matching a `like for like` fixed price / other garage quote

For a base PDK 718, 4 year service, I've been quoted £1426 and £1464 from two OPCs. I thought this might be a bit high - but sounds like it seems to be the going rate these days?

Think it might be better to go to an independent... I am eyeing up RPM Technik.

They're ridiculous prices! As stated previously, try a couple of OPCs not owned by Porsche. The franchise dealers seem to be keener on price.

Not a GT4 but my 718 non S just had its 4 year service - £1,050 fixed price to include spark plug & brake fluid.

From page 1 of this thread, and I would say around £1000 sounds about right for the 4yr service at an OPC.

That does sound a bit on the steep side for engine oil, filters and a plug change, even for one of the PRG dealerships. Are they now charging £200+/hour for labour? I wonder if Covid has reduced servicing throughput and they’ve upped their prices to compensate?

RPM Technik aren’t particularly cheap for a Porsche Independent but they always use official Porsche parts and the correct oils, so if you still have the factory warranty in place you’re OK, but I’m not sure of the situation if you’re on the Extended Warranty.

As said, it’s probably worth getting a third Porsche dealership quote.

Jeff

Yeah - agreed it seems high. I've got a couple of queries out at other OPC's who should get back to me soon.

The problem is at the moment though, the further afield I go... the more I will need a courtesy car to get home [:)], and the two I quoted from said they were booking from May/June respectively!!

I am actually out of warranty...!

Had another quote today... also 1420... and this is at one I think I saw on this thread (or another) was 1k not that long ago.

A quick update for the benefit of other 718 GT4 owners. My 718 GT4 2 year service is due shortly and so I booked into my local OPC and was quoted a smidge short of £1k for the job. I have phoned around with little success and the end result is the lowest cost would be a little over £900. Prices appear to have sky rocketed during the last year for a scope of work that honestly doesn't justify that kind of pricing from a genuine cost perspective. I guess compared to some other brands it could be worse of course.

Cheers Paul. It sounds like Andrew's post on page 1 of this thread shows the current situation, which is absolutely bonkers [:eek:]

Posted elsewhere, but here's another:

718 GT4 2 Year/20,000 miles, at a PC in London: Maintenance £778.95 Brake fluid change £144.26 Water drain check and clean £96.72 Total inc VAT £1019.93 Note: I bounced the water drain check, as the car is garaged and the cleaning of the radiators which is included in the price, I see as unnecessary as the GT4 has grills. I also reduced the cost of the maintenance by £160 plus VAT as I supplied the 8 litres of Mobil 1 0W-40 ESP Oil which cost me £90 inclusive. So revised total (Maintenance and brake fluid change) £731.21 plus the oil at £90

Nick

Just as an update, I had the first service early @ 18months old (4,200 miles) and with the PCGB 10% discount on parts it came to £932.53.
