924 viewed from 944 perspective

I have to confess I have never been a fan of the 924 looks wise. However I have really had my eyes turned a couple of times lately and it has made me think. Recently I have on several occasions seen the same Black Le Mans at least it purports to be one. I looked at it and thought it just looked 'better' , I couldnt put my hand on why at first but on a re look it is definately lower ( so may be a genuine one) and has the rear spoiler and marked out wheels. Prior to that about 2 or three years ago at Silverstone I saw a Red 944S parked on the infield with nice wheels and not a lot more but it looked 'different' and on first glance i thought it was a 944.

It does make me think with the right 'look' or treatment , I would defo consider one as a collectors car for the future. Does anyone else like them or indeed have one as well as a 944 ?

Ive had a couple of 924s. Without a doubt its the prettiest car in the family, as it has the purest lines. My favourite frontrunner would be a 937 - 924 Carrera GTS.

A Le Mans 924S will have 944 (7") rear wheels and theyll all have a light blue accent in the dial holes, and similar light blue fine pinstripe tombstone type sports seats.
 
I've had two 924S's and I think they are great cars. the le mans is the best iteration. I was very tempted by a white one that came up last year. I'd love a 924 turbo as well although they do feel like a much older car ( I suppose they are)

924S with 944S2 running gear (or even 968) would be my choice.
 
Can't do it myself, although I always send the people after a very cheap 944 in the direction of a 924S.

I just like the wider shape of the 944 lux/S over the narrow 924. Just as much as I prefer it to the later, bloated, S2 and Turbo front end. I'm also not a fan of the early interior, so that makes my ideal 944 a 1986 Lux. Probably in Guards. D'oh.... [8|]

924 CGT is a very lovely thing, but it does look more like a 944 if we're honest. [;)]

I now find myself searching ebay for 924 projects under the guise of helping my other half replace the increasingly rattly F'esta. I must have done something right though, she now tells me that she only wants a convertible as the Fiesta's replacement, unless it's a 924. [:D]

It's an interesting one, isn't it? I think that the love for 924's isn't helped by the fact that quite a number of the ones you see around being driven on the roads are very scruffy, with bits of trim missing.

I have had a similar epiphany recently, although I don't find myself thinking "Wow" when I see a 924, more "Hmmm, that's pretty". They are a much more dainty shape than the 944, and manage to look a lot smaller than they should (I believe they are the same length, just a bit narrower.)

It's interesting to look at them (pretty, elegant, small, not very powerful but very well balanced to drive) and compare them with the things that Porsche are making nowadays, particularly the likes of the Cayenne and Panamera (huge, ugly, powerful, loathsome.)

I've had a 924s for some years and I have always liked the simple sleek style.
If I look at my 944 Turbo it shouts out that it is a powerful/fast car, whereas the 924S is more modest.
Looking at my 924S I see a classic/elegant car, but nothing to hint that a 944 engine is lurking under the bonnet.
On the road the 924S is often underestimated by other drivers and it can be fun to educate them!

Financial reality probably means that I will have to sell my 924S - but I won't be happy about it.
In my opinion the current market value does not reflect the true value of this classic model.
 
My first Porsche was a 1986 924S in red with "spiderweb alloys" I bought it around 2003 and used it for a daily driver for four years then when I bought my 944S2 I let my MIL use it for a year before taking it off the road for a year then selling it to a member of the local TIPEC club, who is still using it today.

Absolutley loved it and the one mistake I made in my eyes was selling it and keeping the S2, in my view the 924S was a sweeter easier drive, I loved the interior much more classic with the square dash and not much slower than the S2 for normal day to day driving. If I could go back with what I know now I would definately keep it and sell the S2. I would love to have the time and space for another and if money was no object a 924 Carrera GT or GTS would be in my dream garage along with a 924S and 924 Turbo.

I was at a Swisswax day the other week next to GMund cars near Harrogate and they had at the back of their yard a early 924 Turbo from memory I think very early 80s or late 70s. It was obviously being worked on as it had no brakes fitted and looked very forlorn.

It was 1970s dark brown with what I think is Pasha interior (beige) with a large piece of paint missing from the bonnet center, but generally it looked in great condition with around 37K miles on the clock it must have been standing for a long time, the rubbers and trim needed replacing as did the sunroof seals but the bodywork looked very straight with little or no rust. I would have bought it there and then but the asking price was £1995 which in my view was about £1000 over considering it would need all new seals, rubbers and a complete respray unless you like dark brown.

Lol, don't give her any ideas. If she finds out that there's a convertible, the standard car won't be good enough. She'll be asking me to find a 924 convertible in blue!

If it weren't for the square dash and the consequent poor driving position (for me at least) I'd already have a two-tone 924 turbo...

I have both 924 and early 944 and I love them both for different reasons. Although the cabin is similar as both are squaredash, they are completely different cars to drive. If I was to have to choose, I think the 924 would win because of the more subtle styling. It always makes me chuckle when I think that after Porsche added all the flared arches and spoilers to make the 944, the aerodynamics were worse than on the 924.....[;)]
 
We could make some hybrids to please everyone
924S chassis
931 body styling with two-tone paint
late style interior
'86 951 suspension and brakes
951 lsd gearbox
951 or 968 engine
fuchs wheels

I like the 924 styling and the narrow body is more practical in day to day use but i don't like the interior at all .
 
My 924 was a 1980 lux with tirbo style wheels .She was black with a brown and tan pacsha interior and I loved her.You could drive it flat out everywhere it went round corners like it was on rails but only suffered from a lack of power hence the S2 . But I would love another as it was more fun to drive than the S2.
