944 dyno day?

I missed the one copper man set up. Is there any interested In another I don't mind traveling so we can book the best dyno that works out well for everyone interested. Be good to compare between 944 alike

Where and when is what everyone who insteaded needs to figure out.

I'm south east kent based

I'd be interested in this... I want to compare bhp on two different fuels, and in my case it is nice an easy to change over... I'm in north Dorset.

"Where?" is a good question.

I would recommend it is at a DynoDynamics rolling road, just because they are repeatable (although known to read a bit low, hence being known as "the rollers of doom").

Where, somewhere central in the country would be good, the one used for the Titanic944 days was a nice location, being silverstone it was easy for those north or south of the M25... Maybe not central for those in Scotland, but centralish for the mainland as a whole.

The only thing is, it is probably good to arrange this kind of thing for early spring, as lots of people have put their Porsche to bed for the winter, so might not be able to attend, but it also gives plenty of people the chance to be able to attend before their diary is full up, between now and christmas a lot of people have lots of commitments booking up, such as visiting relatives and being dragged round shops by their other halves!

Jon,

I was hoping you might crop up on this thread - did you have anything to do with the one somewhere around Hurn airport? I was wondering if we could generate enough interest for another there... I was thinking of suggesting it to those in our region and possibly adding it to the Dorset calendar as something we haven't done before as a region.

Also, as I mentioned on another thread recently, it might be nice to see if we can put together a list of some of the old Titanic 944 members who used to go to the Dyno days, just to see if they want to have a bit of a reunion, some of them still have 944's but are not on the PCGB forum here, such as Mark Dalton who has Ben's 3.2 944 Turbo.. (Ben - who might also like to know it is happening and come along, who I think checks in here once in a while) But there is also people like Rick Cannell who no longer has a 944, but I am sure would love to come along and chat to everyone about their cars.

Yeah I arranged the one that I think you were talking about, which was also a BBQ at my workshop when we were in Christchurch.

That rolling road (Dyno Dynamics 4 wheel drive one) has now migrated to Verwood, which is nearer to my new workshops in Ferndown north of Bournemouth. The business name where it is now is VeySport which is run by Andy Vey, who used to opperate the dyno at Triton, who have now become a van specialist lol.

For your local needs it would be ideal, however for this threads national one, it might be better for it to be one somewhere in the midlands and not one used by any of the Porsche tuners, so everyone knows it is impartial.

Thanks Jon...

Is it the same type of Dyno at Silverstone? I seem to recall it was chosen by the Titanic group because of it being realistic rather than massaging the egos of owners! I seem to recall something like 30-40odd 944s at those... I think those days are gone, though I would love to be proven wrong! How many cars does it need to make such a day viable?

Spoke to Mark at JMG who said my car should be ready by next week. So, I'm in provided its roughly 100-120 miles from London.

The more the merrier so if it helps with numbers, this could/should be opened to more than just 944's.

(Really excited as the impression Mark gave me is the car will be better than initially expected. Will share more in a new thread soon hopefully.)

I thought they'd closed? Might be wrong.

The good thing with the Silverstone dyno was that all the listings on Cannell's site are from there, so it's easy to compare results over time.

The original company at silverstone closed, but apparently the dyno moved a few doors along to another company there, if anyone is local, or knows more details, they may be able to find out if it is still in the area.. I just thought it was quite good for a national location for people.. But I am sure there must be one somewhere around the midlands which is not biassed to any tuners and a good known quantity, such as a DD one.

However, it is probably easy for any dyno to be only as accurate as its last calibration.

Well I would like to do a few pulls. Try a few difference boost levels. Open it up to others just thought it be good compression amongst 944s

Never been dyno before so I don't no how long it takes per car. 1hour per car? Day would be 8/10 cars maybe less cars if some are doing more then one test

Four of us went to the one that Copperman set up this summer. It was at http://www.surreyrollingroad.co.uk/ which is not far from J3 of the M3 and has the same Dyno Dynamics rollers that we used when I used to organise the annual 944 Dyno Days.

Tref, Jon (and others) - I'm up for a rolling road session at Vey Sport in Verwood (Dorset). Limited time means I can't travel far for such an event, but given that my car has not been power checked since the JMG wizards got busy, it really does need checking. What's wrong with staying local?!

Go on Tref - book it up as a Dorset Region event, but with all others (especially 994 people) welcome.

I would love to... and will see what we can do... but for two things... firstly, not treading on the toes T3rra who brought it up in the first place, and secondly, running it past the rest of our region if it is to be a regional event... although if we already have a bunch of people interested, other than the usual regional movers and shakers, I'd be very surprised if they weren't up for it!

OK, At the last impromptu meeting of a few of us in Dorset, I have the go-ahead to organise something as a Dorset event, again, for me, the sooner the better, and it would be nice to have a "winter event" in the Dorset calendar... That said, as was rightly pointed out, many put their cars away for the winter, and Dorset isn't exactly central... given that, would any of the national 944 contingent be interested if, we were to see if we could do something in Verwood? I would like to see if we could keep it open to all, but beneficial to members if that makes sense too.

Tref.

Tref - apparently Andy at VeySport has sold his rolling road. So unless you know of another such system in the Verwood area, we may be forced a bit further afield...

So I have now discovered... Next Nearest Dyno-Dynamics rollers I am aware of is Ray West in Thruxton... Apparently after March it all gets a bit manic for Weekends, but again, for me, the sooner the better... I am guessing that those that will have their cars on the road in March will probably have them on the road in January too... So what are the thoughts on a January get together around the rollers at Thruxton? It is otherwise a pretty quiet time of year isn't it?!
