944 trackday at Donington videos

excellent thanks Paul, Will try and find time this weekend to upload some 3.2,
Cheers,
Tony

Smokin'! Top man, thanks Paul.

I made that a 1:30 for Beaky which I didn't think was too embarrassing on road tyres. I did try turning the sound up but still couldn't hear Beaky's tyres squealing.

IIRC after I let you by I had a very squirrelly moment down Craners (would have made excellent footage) then not long after that we both lost our boost pipes.....one of us managed to drive back to the pits though [;)]

Nice video's paul - your car sounds great

Hi John,

A 1:30 round Donington National on road tyres is a very quick time. A Porsche Cup Class 1 944 Turbo Race Car on full slicks (and 300kg less weight) would manage a 1:17 in 2000. So, that's pretty good going! :)

When are you guys next planning to be on track?

Regards,
Andrew

It was a truly excellent day and great to catch up with the 944 FOUR. Please send something to Stephen Mummery with pics so we can put a feature in Porsche Post.

Nice vids Paul. [8D]

Sounds like the opportunities to use "full hammer" are relatively few, but the car sound awesome when you do. [:)]

Hi Lou,

Good to see you as well. Sorry I wasn't in best form (constant refitting of boost pipes does get a bit warring). Perhaps next time I will be able to give you a ride....I promise not to make you sick. I did take McN out a few times I think we even managed three laps at one stage before the pipe blew off again - I even managed to stop him talking at one point down through Craners [:D]

Have seen Belinda's "Jumping" pictures; they are brilliant. There are four in the series and seeing them together is even more funny than the final image. I was close to tears with laughter.

I have uploaded some video of LIL taken from my car, just waiting for you tube to process it so I can post a link,
Tony

I have obviously missed something, I did not know that there was a 944 track day at Donington recently and as I only live a mile from the circuit it's a shame because I probably would have joined in! How often are these gatherings arranged and how are they advertised?

Hi Andy,

We do try to post if there is a group doing a day (or evening) as it is more of a laugh to get a group of us together. In this instance the day was organised by PCGB as a prize for the Eynsham Chubb Challenge which the 944 Register Team won.

We don't usually do PCGB Track Days as they are more expensive then some/most. They do have limited numbers, and less numptry cars, so are perhaps worth the money if you can afford them. In this instance it was free so well worth the money.

In past years we have done evenings at Silverstone with Gold Track and also a day at Snetterton.

See:-

Paul Smith is one of the main protagonist for galvanising group bookings. As LIL (Paul's car) has been out of the frame for the last two seasons we haven't done much. Several of us have been spending lots of money to make the cars better for Track Days and then either not had the money or not had the time to enjoy our investment.

The sickening thing for me is, after almost two years my first track day was curtailed by an annoying loose boost pipe. If I'd paid for the day I'd been even more sick than I was. That said, I would have had plenty of time for the promised passenger rides (part of the prize)....... but these never materialised [].

Given time I think I could have shaved a few seconds off. I had plenty of brakes available so could have gone in deeper. I probably could have done with carrying a little less speed through the corners as this would have settled the car better for more power sooner on the exit (and held onto the tyres for longer for use at Craners). I had an awesome sideways moment through Craners so knew I was as fast as I was going to be through there.

The second lap out was generally the best and then the tyres started to overheat and get squirrelly. I used to have the same thing when I first started racing the Westfield. I couldn't afford wet and dry tyres so had a set of Yokohama A021Rs. The change in grip going to 008Rs was spectacular.

I'm very pleased with the suspension as all the tyres seem to heat up equally with slightly more heat in the centre of the tyre.

Cool! I'd have a word with your star though, he seems to keep going out of shot [:D]

The noises coming from Tony's car seem far more akin to those of Beaky...it must be a 2.5 thing. [;)]

Hello Tony
Excellent video, made me quite envious....!
Where was the mic located?
Simon
P.S. thanks for the credit..!
