944 trackday at Donington videos

ORIGINAL: AndrewS

When are you guys next planning to be on track?

I've started putting the days I am booked onto in my signature. If we all did that then we can keep an eye on when a few 944s may be booked on the same day. In the old days we had the Titanic Diary but that no longer works.

My next trackday will be Rockingham on Sun 20th May. After that I want to do a Silverstone evening with Goldtrack when they publish their summer dates.

Hi Paul

How did you get on with the PF pads?

They did fantastically Paul, I had no problems all day long and did a few 20-30 minute sessions where I was braking from 130 into the chicane at the start/finish. They definately have a higher initial bite than road pads and grip even more once hot. My track wheels are actually less dusty than they normally are when I used road pads so I do think the dust problems are made worse during a wet day as Davyboy guessed.

They were whisper quiet before the trackday, however they do now squeal like I have small piglets trapped in my callipers []

I have obviously missed something, I did not know that there was a 944 track day at Donington recently and as I only live a mile from the circuit it's a shame because I probably would have joined in! How often are these gatherings arranged and how are they advertised?

Sorry Andy [:(]

There were a few threads on here where it was discussed beforehand, but you must have missed them. Maybe we should stick a thread at the top where people can post which days they are booked on or if we all make a note in our signature when we book on to a day so we can 'get together' on the day

Good idea to put trackdays in your sig - I haven't got anything booked but I'd like to do another Silverstone evening.

They don't have any evenings listed on their web site but I have e-mailed Melindi to see what the situation is.

Gold Track does have several Snetterton days listed at £179. I could be tempted on one of them if they aren't doing Silverstone evenings.

If there is no joy with the Silverstone evenings then I could certainly do Snetterton on Wed 27th June

Thanks Paul, I must have missed the threads. Oh well. I think that a "sticky" highlighting 944 attendance at track days/ evenings is a very good idea.

Re: Silverstone Evenings

E-mail back from Melindi, apparently there are "Lots coming soon". Excellent! [:)]

Let's make sure we book a warm dry evening then [;)]

Pah wimp, wet days are so much more fun! Sideways through Copse at 140mph is great fun...........

.........when I've watched it on TV [;)]

Wet days are far less stressful for the car producing much reduced ware and tare......assuming you can keep it on the black stuff and nothing hits you. [8|]

Copse isn't a worry - Woodcote in the wet is the one that I think would be a little "exciting".

Especially for Paul with approximately with 4000 lb/ft to spin up the rear wheels [;)]

Hi Ed,

You are so right. I've had some 'big' moments coming through Woodcote in the rain - that PCGB 2000 track day still being a clear memory. Thankfully it dried up in the afternoon but there were quite a few moments in the morning. Biggest off I remember was a 964RS in the dry losing it at the PCGB 2002 trackday at Silverstone - what a mess.

Looking forward to driving Silvertsone GP again. Last trip there on the track was May 2004. Should be great fun!

Regards,
Andrew

Ditto.

How can a start/finish straight not be straight and have a river running across it?

One of the very few places at Silverstone where you can hit something hard. It certainly focuses you attention when the car goes sideways at 100+ and you are facing the pit wall.

Donington is a bit of a haul for us Southern lads; where as Silverstone is just right for an evening jaunt.

Especially on a Friday night up the M1!

I'll certainly be back at Donington though - only 10 miles away for me :)

Friday night isn't the best night for me though (from memory, the Crashzone evenings are usually Fridays )
