944 Turbo S Saved

These pictures are not in any particular order, but will show some of the work carried out fitting the Genuine Porsche sills, repairing the back of the sills where it joins the rear arches with handmade panels as Porsche don't do them and repairing the A Pillars after water ingress has eaten away at the pillar behind the glass.

Wow. I actually didn't realise there was as much rot on the shell as indicated by some of those photos. Makes the job even more impressive. Great work. Just shows what you find once you dig deeper.

That is seriously good work, very impressive. So glad mine had very little rust, can't believe how much that had got!

Looking really good Martin - thanks for posting the photos. They will be a great help for if/when I redo the sills on my Turbo, as they have already been replaced before, so it's nice to have a reference of how it should look.

Incidentally, these repair panels look really nice:

I suspect this area on my car has not been repaired perfectly (lots of seam sealer), I'd certainly buy a pair of these repair panels if your mate considered knocking some more up!!

Has the curve where the front outer sill meets the rear outer sill been retained? It may be my eyes, but it looks like it is rather flat/square in one of the photos?

Also - what is the goldy coloured paint? Not seen that before!

The gold coloured paint is a rust preventative primer.

It must be the camera angle as the lens look great in the painted photos.

yeah that is a really nice repair under the rear arch, total pig of an area to work in.

the front screen pillars are more rusty than you would expect.

general quality of repair is excellent

Thanks Martin - I gathered it was anti corrosive paint, just not seen one in that colour before. All of the zinc or anti-corrosive paints I have used are usually grey - wondered if this one had some kind of wonder additive in it!!

I think that the fact it was left outside, uncared for in all elements help the water to get in under the screen.

The slightest hole or gap in your window seal will allow water to collect and it may quickly lead to damp carpets and then rust forming if not sorted quickly.

Impressive work! I was pretty happy with my DIY skills but that looks to be very professional indeed. Very similar corrosion to my S2.

Always scary to see a car with no doors and no screen. That's when you realise how spindly the A pillars are on these cars! I dread to think what Euro NCAP rating a 944 would get these days!

The rake of the screen and the fact the pillar is triple layer helps a lot.

I have seen a 911 3.2 Carrera with the pillar facing backwards and the dash in the seat on one side, which is not pretty, but never seen a 944 go that way, they would be massively stronger due to the engine / torque tube and transaxle arrangement.

They were developed in the Ralph Nader Safety improvement era of late 60's early 70's which helps, but NCAP has moved the game on enormously.

Excellent for the day though.
