944 wannabe

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm down in South Devon.

Always a long way from any cars for sale! Lol.
Whereabouts in South Devon ? I am willing to help out, but I'm no mechanical expert [&o] I'm in Ottery St Mary

You could do worse than have a chat with Andy Moss at SCS Porsche near Honiton, I've known Andy for a long time (well before he got his jazzy new workshop facilities [:)] ).

Hi guys.

I'm still here and gently looking.

Life has been very turbulent this past year.

Still is! Lol. But am still searching for right car at right price...........

Not so definite on the S2 now. (Prices)

Definitely not convertible.

Definitely oval dash.

Probably not red.

Definitely manual.

Any tip offs.

Not sure of any at the moment - I'm in the Midlands and would have a look at anything this way. (9 years 944 ownership '83 .05, '89 2.7, and S2)

K: If you're still undecided, this may help: Informed advice was always to buy on condition above all, rather than model, colour, etc. That has held good for me, had an independent inspection (worth the money) and I've owned the car for 10 yrs with major work only every few years, and it is driven "enthusiastically" from time to time on track day type events! The only down side, I suppose, is that I walked away from a couple of Turbos, and since then they have put on more value than my S2, but I'm in it for the enjoyment and not investment. Good luck!

That's what I say about the 964 I didn't buy 9 years ago because I thought it was ugly....

I still think they're ugly, except for the turbo..but then when i bought my car the 964 was the car that no one wanted for reasons other than just it's looks, how things have changed..:)

I think the 964 is pig ugly, and apparently they're a pig to work on too. If I'd bought one I would have sold it by now and cashed in on the silly prices they make.

Cripes. Be very careful.

Mine looked immaculate when I bought it... a few weeks later I had it up in the air to check with the wheels off and noticed a glass fibre thread at the bottom of the wing. This led to both bottom front wings being repaired. Whilst that was being done, I asked for the sills to be inspected and serious corrosion was found on both inner and outer both sides.

£4,500 later just for repairs to the metalwork and another £1500 for paint... you get the idea!

Good luck with your search

I wouldn't go near that car... it's clearly never been loved and looks like it's rusted everywhere, both sills have holes which means new inners and outers are likely plus maybe the floor too... two of the wings have blisters at the top of the arch, what's been going on there?? to me and I'm the type who will usually take on anything, that car looks one very small step away from being scrapped. it's a late model too and so for it to be in that bad a shape it has been very badly neglected during it's lifetime.

Leave well alone would be my advice..

Pete

I hear you.

But it is the model i like.

I come from the world of aircooled VW.. this looks mint!!!!! Lol.

And if I got it for something beginning with a low 3. How much are wings and sills?

Can you still buy these panels?

Just thinking about it.

it's not worth it....I see 3 wing's with bubbles on the top of their arches, this is very unusual, never seen it before so something has been going on with this car, perhaps rusted to hell with a blow over done at some point to cover it up.....rear wings 10 years ago were roughly £900 a piece, add another grand for the two front wings, say £4k for inner and outer sills to be sorted not to mention whatever else lurks underneath, plus say £3k for a reasonable but not excellent paint job after. We haven't even looked at mechanicals, which I suspect are horrendous....these car's aren't cheap to restore, far better to buy something at twice the price which may only have a few bad bits to sort out.

Pete

Karl, do yourself a favour and don't go anywhere near that car. Even if it was free, you'd have to spend more than it would end up being worth and it'd still be a patched up high miler. Just looking at the MOT history and the current points of failure would make me run as fast as possible in the opposite direction.

https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ is your friend[;)]

good spot on the MOT's wolfie...this car as I said has never been cared for...so many fails and advisories which have not been fixed and the owner just taken pot luck as to whether they would be picked up at the next MOT.....you can be sure that the chassis is unfit for purpose...I suspect the area around the torsion bar mounts has rotted away making this car beyond help...sad to say

Okay guys. I get the point.

Really want my first sports car, but haven't got 10k to spend.

I'll ask if I can get this one for 250quid! Lol
