944 wannabe

Hey volks,,,

i was told many years ago that "the cheapest porsche you buy ,could end up as the most expensive porsche you could buy",,

I gave just under 10k for my latest s2 and since Nov i have spent a £1000 on bits and pieces[ with support from Mark up in glasgow,,, who i bought the s2 from],,,,,,

For the future i be having a windows out respray which will add more £££

a very nice car when we bought her that will even be better once all the work has been finished also cambelt ,water pump, chamchain, etc, etc,,which will be over a grand and thats in jan 2018,,,,,,

like other posters i am not trying to put you off but just making you aware of the cost if you dont do any of your own "spannering" and if you buy a "wrong un" so take your time and walk away from the car you described,,it sounds like a money pit,,,,

best of luck volks,,keep us posted,,,jason

Welcome peoples views and experiences.

How about this one....

Look at this on eBay [link]http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/192133175129[/url]

Looks alright in the photos but you really can't tell without viewing the car and getting underneath and looking into the trouble spots. Being stored for 10 years means it put on its 150k miles over a more intensive period so it should have had plenty of routine maintenance during that time.

Hi Karl

That looks much better... 'light and day'....as already stated you can never be sure until looking closer at these cars but my first impressions are very good. Panel work looks straight, wheels have no signs of kerbing. From what the photo's tell me I would want to check the oil pressure when hot and how it responds to rpm, it should go close to around 4.5 to 5 bar when the throttle is blipped, hot or cold. Unfortunately, the photo doesn't show what temperature the engine is at, if it's warm then that pressure is very good, if cold it can still be good depending on how it responds to the throttle, other factors can affect this reading such as what oil is in the car? Also, I can't quite make out what's going on with the stone guards, it could just be some form of light reflection but it looks to me that the guards have been removed? Be sure to check what's going on there.

I would say that this car is definitely one to go and have a closer look at, especially at that price, it looks like a well looked after car, (looks can be deceiving) I'd ask the reason for it being stored for 10 years and due to this I'd be taking a very close look at the known rust areas as these cars can deteriorate very quickly when left standing for any time.

Take a 944 owner with you if possible, alas this car is too far from me or I'd be very happy to take a look with you....

good luck...

Pete

Looks a nice car and well worth a look,,,,dont see many silver s2s imo,,,

I remember this being punted last year when I was looking. Same terrible photos, absolutely no details of service history whatsoever, I'd even guess the service book is missing as it's not mentioned, just 'Original Porsche Folders & handbooks'.

I'm also always suspicious when registration is obscured, preventing easy check of its MOT history.

Shame you weren't able to take a look at Paul McNulty's before he sold it. Would probably have suited your requirement and it was in Cornwall.

Yeah. I won't/can't be paying 12k for one anyways. But nice to see what's about.

Watched old Wheeler Dealers the other day.

Minty 944turbo for 2,800. Ahhhhh they were the days! Lol

And that was my red S.2 reg G308GJT that was used in the opening sequences[:D]

Had it not been written off in a nasty motorway accident last year, I'd still be driving it[:(]

Karl, spread your feelers as wide as possible, check out several 944 Facebook groups if you haven't already.

There was a nice sounding prospect that came up for sale middle of last year, exchanged several emails with vendor, asking £6k, new clutch and other recent works. Was prepared to travel to view/purchase.....300 mile round trip but vendor didn't get back to me, a week or so later, it appeared here at more than twice the price
