952 trackcar update.

Looking at a few threads on here got me thinking I should update my car's status at the moment. The only thing is it's hard to upload multiple pictures so I'll do it mostly with words.

So essentially it's a 1986 turbo that has had all the '89 running gear from my Grey car installed. So it's got late offset suspension, brakes etc...+ the aftermarket intercooler and other bits.

Perhaps to move from the front of the car to the rear might be easiest.

D9 GTS lights replacing the stock pop up system.
A couple of different splitters to choose from.
993 Oil cooler.
Custom front mount intercooler.
Engine bay seam welded and repainted.
Full carbon fibre hood with vents.
A/C & heater removed.
Smaller alternator w/ CEP bracket.
Custom SFR 3.5" - 5" S/S exhaust.
Moton Clubsport 2 way adj coilovers with OEM torsion bars removed.
Big Reds on CEP full floating slotted rotors.
Racers Edge A arms, billet hubs and solid bushings.
Tarrett adj swaybars front and rear.
LR Semi solid engine mounts.
All the stock brake system removed.
Stock fuse box removed. Replaced with Motec PDM30. Very slick and programmable way of getting rid of fuses and relays. http://www.motec.com/aboutpowerdistribution/powerdistributionoverview/
All the stock wiring and harness removed.
New heated windscreen.
Full fibreglass dashboard with all the OEM 'stuff' underneath removed. (big weight saving)
Moton SDL3 Dash and SLM programmable shift light module. These are all my gauges! http://www.motec.com/displayssdl3/displayssdl3overview/ http://www.motec.com/slm/slmoverview/
Tilton floor mounted pedal and dual m/c setup.
Extended Steering wheel boss with quick release hub.
OMP raceseat moved back and down with welded in reinforced runners.
Custom control panel within reach.
RSR Carbon doors. These weigh something like 2-3 kgs with lexan windows installed! (huge weight saving as seen by the maker balancing on one finger!)
Fully stripped and caged and repainted interior. In a metallic silver. Cage goes through to front strut towers.
Stock roof with hatch replaced by single skin unit. Good gain in headroom.
Spare wheel well modified to be shortened by removing about 10cms off the base. 2x 044s and Swirl pot to go in there.
Fully rebuilt and customised 968 6 speed. Strengthened and increased cooling being the mods. Stayed with the stock gearing for now. KAAZ 6 plate 45/90 LSD.
LR race axles and CVs.
OEM Mo30 rear brakes for now.
Full lexan rear hatch.
Wheels are 10.5" and 11.5" x 18" Fikse Mach V all black anodised. Either 315/18" Nitto NT01 on all 4 corners or Hoosier 305 / 320 R80 full slicks. Depending on event.
Broadfoot GT2 widebody flares.
Car repainted basic Black. Looking pretty mean at the moment. How about the snub tail look? Not much downforce but kind of spunky all the same. :)

Not far off:
Dry sumped 3L 8v racemotor. Motec ECU.
Dual element rear wing from DJ engineering U.K. (Simon McBeath is a very accomplished designer and all round nice guy!)

I've got some pics but they're all too large to upload. I can't seem to bring the size down with the editing software I've got (plus I'm a numpty in this regard).

Any guesses how much the car will weigh? Closest to it wins the car!!

....not really. [:)]

Quite a bit of weight saving there Patrick [8D], but also a few heavy things gone back in (LR CV's, Big Reds, Cage etc) so I'll stick my neck out at 1150kg dry Looks like I'm the only entrant, so I'm closest (I'll send you my address for delivery :ROFLMAO: ) We really need pics to drool over so email them to my address and I'll edit them and post 'em here for you

Excellent! I'm liking those doors a lot, if I put removeable door bars in the I suppose I could go that route, any links to the maker or prices? As for weight, we'll given Paul said 1250 so I'll go with 1249.9 to cover the widest number of bases [:D], I have a sneaky feeling you might be below 1200kg... Do you still have the dash in or not? This thread definitely needs pics! edit> Oh, and can you tell me what altenator you're running too please?

Paul, I hope you're closer than Peter in the guessing stakes. [:D] I've just tried to email to your Hotmail account and it bounced back. Can you send me your email again. Mine hasn't changed if you've got it on record. Peter, dash is out. New one in place temporarily but it will get a nice new Black suede covering once all the work is finished. Way lighter than stock but not sure how easy it would be to swap to this and retain many of the OEM switches/gauges if that was desired. It's a f/g copy so perhaps? I think the Alt is from a US Nissan Quest. I will send Paul a pic that should show it on the motor. EDIT: Now it seems the emails might have got through Paul. Let me know if not. Cheers all Patrick

Factory Cup cars were ~1280kg, I'd say you are going to remove easily at least 100kg off that figure with all the carbon parts... so let's be wild, I'd say 1130kg dry [:)] (If you think the pic format allowed on here is too small I could post them in higher resolution on one of my webpages, that is of course if it wasn't what Paul suggested in the first place).

Oh, Peter. Link to the door maker. He's closer to you than me. Somewhere near the Canary Islands believe it or not!! http://www.rsr-racing.net/ I'd appreciate whatever works Thom. Thanks. ps the car is not complete and needs a buff and wash, but you'll get the idea. :)

1130Kg with 20 litres of fuel is what my S2 weighs and I have nowhere near the trick parts list you have going there Patrick. The Motec stuff in particular is very interesting as the wiring loom is pretty heavy. I am sure I am not the only one that would like to hear and see a lot more about that department.

Whoopsie, bit of a typo there, 1149.9 was supposed to be my guess. Thanks for the link and alt info, will have a proper look later.

It would appear that my emailed pics didn't get through to Paul. Paul could you drop me a line to my business email today. I've forwarded the emails to there and we can try again. Thanks. pgarvan@winningappliances.com.au Neil, I hope you're right. Obviously there is all the turbo hardware to add to the weight of your S2 but if it's somewhere near yours I'd be very happy. [:)]

I would expect the 16v head to be a lot heavier than the 8v head though so maybe there isn't that much difference betweeen a fully dressed S2 engine and a fully dressed 952 motor?

Heated windscreen in Australia? Shame we cant get those here: at least, I havent been able to find one. Simon

Fair point Neil. All I can say is I hope you're correct. I have been waiting on the motor for some time and it was going to be the jewel in the crown so to speak, but I'm just as excited about the transformation due to the lightness and stiffness of the chassis/body. I think I will have to adjust to usually waiting for the car to 'take a set' before turn in. Especially with the wide slicks. I was on the track last year and just changed from R specs to slicks on the same day. Due to having to knock a bit of caster out just to fit the slicks up front, the R spec setup was understeering badly. When I switched to the slicks in the afternoon the transformation was incredible. Having battled screeching plow like understeer all day, I was now turning over ripplestrips by accident as the turn in was so much more aggressive and instant. Not to mention the amazing increase in braking!! As I said, can't wait to get back out there even knowing there will be a fair bit of testing to get it all to gel together. Better than sitting on the sidelines any day though. [:D] Simon, yes that is a bit odd at face value. We have quite a popular 944 n/a race series down here in Melbourne. You might be surprised that it gets quite frosty down there and once all the demisting equipment is out you need something to clear the screen inside. I'm not sure how feasible it would be to ship one OS but I could make inquiries if you like? PS I still haven't been able to load any recent pics. They're all 1-2MBs in size. Paul, you still out there?

Fair bit of drag from those 315s up front. Might have to try some form of canard? Anyway, clearly needs some more work, but probably 75% there. Once it's all done I think I might get some proper pics taken before it gets all scratched up....or worse! []

Just wiping the drool of my desk... Very nice indeed Patrick - that is some serious track width you have there. Would love to see more detail of the roll cage - it looks like you have extended bars through to the front strut turrets. Then all you need to do is upload your file, click the image button (in the PCGB msg window) and paste your link in the space between the image brackets.
