964 Meet and Trackday at Curborough Sprint Course

*Update on arrangements for the day*

The day we have is Saturday 31st October, 2009 and it is fully booked with the maximum of 20 cars. These are the first 20 that signed on the Doodle list. There has been one cancellation that has been passed to the next on the list. If I haven't contacted you to ask you to send your payment, unfortunately that means you didn't get a place on track. However, even if you didn't make the track list it will still be a great day out with fellow 964 owners. There should be plenty of opportunities to get free passenger rides.

The format of the day is expected to be.

11 am: Arrive at the circuit and track drivers sign on.
11.30 am: Briefing about the day including safety aspects and an introduction to our resident instructor for the day, Tim Arnold.
12.00 pm: Track driving begins so form an orderly queue and take advantage of free instruction from Tim if you like.
4.30 pm (ish): Track driving ends.

Helmets are not required although they are optional and, perhaps, recommended. We also recommend that you take time to remove loose objects from the car before going on track. You won't use a lot of petrol on the day but we recommend you arrive with at least half a tank.

We are still hoping that the tea and coffee cabin (on site) will be open for refreshments (but bring some butties just in case).

Curborough is situated 20 miles North of Birmingham off the A38 trunk road between Burton-on-Trent and Lichfield in Staffordshire. The venue is Brown Signed once you are off the A38, and also the A515 from the West. When turning off the A38 look for a sign labelled Hillard's Cross and then look for the brown signs. Their web site is available at http://www.curborough.co.uk.

Those that have been unlucky not to make it on the track might be interested in another day that is being run by 911UK the weekend before ours (all Porsches welcome):

I'm going to this one! Sound like Sundeep is going to be running a good set up on the day.

hope to see some of you there :p

Steve,
Do we need all the track stuff like licence, insurance certificate,MOT to sign on?

Cheers ,
Colin.

I've been struggling to find a postal address for the track (for sat nav purposes), even on the website.

Can you help Steve?

Thanks

Hi Colin, you're right there isn't really a post code for the course. As you're coming from the South I would come up the M1 and get myself onto the A5. You can either get on to the A5 direct from the M1 (J20 will get you on it) or join it further along by using the M6 and M42. Just after bypassing Tamworth on the A5 you will come onto a nice new dual carriageway. At the end of this is a roundabout where you get onto the A38 North. Travel along until you see a major slip road joining you from the left (maybe after about 3 miles and it will be very obvious when you get to this point). Then you need to take the next left to 'Hillard's cross' (it may also say Fradley but don't quote me on this as that might not be until the next turn off). This will get you onto the road that takes you to Curborough (wood end lane) and from then on you just need to follow the brown signs.

I'm sure I'll find it!

The days of the map balanced on the passenger seat are over for me. Always seemed to end up (closed) between the passenger door & the seat or in the footwell after 'spirited' driving!

I still use maps and get Mrs B to do the navigating [:D]. I guess you'll have to punch in Wood end Lane and see where you end up. [8D]

BTW local weather is showing overcast but dry at the moment [:)]

After extensive reasearch, try this in your sat navs

North 52 degrees 42' 43"

West 1 degree 48' 10"

There appear to be only 2 post codes covering the whole of Curborough so you won't go far wrong with either. They are WS13 8EW and WS13 8ET

Regards

Dave

The postcode with 8EW is the closer one. If you are on Wood end road from the A38 the lane is on the left (and is brown signed) as you approach that postcode. It is easy to miss if you are driving enthusiastically! Its no more than 3 minutes from the A38 and if you get to the A515 you have obviously missed it.

Thanks Wealy. Are you coming down to say hello? It looks like I might have one spare place on the day unless one of the reserves turns up to take it.

And just to say if anyone gets there before me and finds the gate is locked...don't worry because I've got to pop down the road and collect the keys from the course secretary. I'm hoping to do all that by about 11 am.

Thanks Steve - I will pop over and say hello as I only live half a mile from the track, I can't make the start time so I won't commit to that but looking forward to seeing you an the day. the weather forecast is good by the way!

If you think I would dare risk overtaking you en route then you are mistaken.Looking forward to seeing everybody tomorrow.[:)]

The convoy will be moving at an appropriate speed....with 6 or 7 of us we don't want to give mr plod any excuses for spoiling the day [;)]

I think this means (scroll to the bottom) rain overnight, cloudy with sunny intervals but dry tomorrow...

I think...

Great picture Kevin-at least the front brakes are working.

Got to say a great thankyou to Steve for organising such a fantastic enjoyable day, great to meet everybody-big thankyou to Tim Arnold-hope to do it again sometime soon.

Cheers,
Colin.

I will post details of the video I took, once I work out how to post it on U tube.

Great day, thanks Steve for organising a cracking day and for the invite, nice to meet so many of you.

Many apologies to everyone for not being there today. I did have every intention of extricating the car from the garage but the problems of a Saturday out for me are that work turns up at the drop of a hat and I'm afraid I'm not willing to turn customers away for the sake of a day out!!

I'm really pleased you all had a good day and thanks are obviously due to Steve for the faultless arrangement and to Tim for turning out to give the benefit of his experience.

We seem to be getting some good experience of amassing good numbers to many of these 964 events now so I'm hopeful that we can do more as time goes on. With the darker days of Autumn and Winter upon us I'm guessing things will be much quieter now until next year - but you never know!!

Thanks again to all those who took part.

Regards

Dave
