991 GTS

ORIGINAL: BigCat

Hi John
Ditched the Macan order keeping the Q5 and swapped the deposit, got a good deal on my C2 for this:

GT Silver, Black Turbo S Wheels, PDK, 18 Way seats, GTS Alcantara / Leather Interior with Carmine Red Trim, Full LED Headlights, Park Assist F/R, Cruise, Bose, Heated Seats, Speed Limit Indicator, Light Design Package, GT Silver Intake Grilles, Auto Dimmming Mirrors, Power Steering Plus, Mobile Phone Prep, Everything else is standard GTS config.
November build, due December.

Really pleased with outcome. 😎

It's always nice when a plan is abandoned and another completely different one comes together.[;)]

Adrian just a couple of minor points. Personally I have never tried Power steering plus so can only go on what I have read where I have noted some people don't like it. Can't remember the reasons they gave but a bit of Googling would probably find it. I find the ordinary steering fine.
The current versions of PCM allows a display of the speed limit as understood by Sat Nav mapping so no need to pay £284 extra if that is all you want (but is hardly a significant saving in the greater scheme of things). From what I understand, the SLI is camera based and looks forward out of the windscreen for any road signs etc. PDSL+ is also camera based in a similar location so I wonder if your car will have two separate cameras? Does SLI work at night and is it able to make sense of the chaotic signage of the average UK road works?

Christmas present or 2015 car? Decisions.

Nick

Great spec Adrian] will look very classy[8D] not sure on the power steering plus?, but will be a very nice looking car,
got me thinking[8|] , will have to keep out of the dealerships, lol.
Are you going to get it debadged? ! Would look better with just GTS on the rear as GT3 , imo.
must get round to doing mine, just 911 looks much nicer.

In reply to Nick and John
I have Power Steering Plus on my Carrera and the 4S I had on loan for 4 days also had it fitted.
It does make the steering easier at low speeds parking etc without affecting the "feel" at higher speeds so given it's low cost I decided to add it on the new GTS.

Having experienced what the SLI does when I drove a Macan, it also picks up the temporary limits on motorways and the variable speed limits it also reads other road signs such as "no overtaking" . Not sure how it's performance is affected by rain or darkness as I never got the chance to try it, but it also works on continental road signs. I have noticed with the sat nav based system that sometimes the speed limit displayed is different to the actual so the SLI camera will override that and show the true limit.

I didn't know that the PDLS+ lights also used a camera, maybe it is the same one if not I hope there will be room for my GoPro [;)]

As for delivery, the build date is sometime in November so if I can get it before end of December and with a seamless transfer of of my existing 911, that would suit me especially with road tax renewable from January 1st and insurance due 9th January. I'm not bothered by it being a 2014 car, it would technically still be a 64 plate though it will have the personal reg from my current 911.

As for the badge, I'm not normally a fan of them, my Carrera just says P O R S C H E and underneath 911, unfortunately on the GTS you either have everything or just P O R S C H E so as it's in Black lettering I decided to have the default option, I can always have it removed if I don't like it.

if you select delete model designation, P O R S C H E is moved slightly lower down. Removing 911 Carrera GTS post delivery could mean that P O R S C H E is a bit too close to the black grille

Thanks, didn't realise that, however I think I will stay with the whole lot, pity they don't just offer 911 GTS or just GTS under PORSCHE, that would look better.

Well, a super spec and I'm rather jealous tbh. The silver with the two tone interior will look fantastic, I'm sure. And not too much of a wait.

We fell into the same trap today, but went in the opposite direction and put a deposit down on a Cayenne facelift. [:D][:D] That'll be number four so we must like them.

Just got to spec that one, which is half the fun as we all know.

I'd asked about the GTS when I went to order my S back in June and was told that it wouldn't be out 'till next Spring.........[]
Putting my spec onto a GTS 2 wheel drive model equates to about £5K more than I paid - narrow body and 30hp less

Looks very nice

The base price for a Manual GTS is £91.1K, configure an S to include all the options that are available to add which are standard on the GTS, it will cost £97.4K drop the Power Kit and the price reduces to £88K so about £100 per HP saving but missing the Turbo S Wheels (a £2.4K option to add on the Turbo), the wide body of the 4S and the wider 4S rear tyres.

if you paid £5K less than the equivalent spec GTS but without the Power Kit sounds like you got a bargain.

Just been on the configurator again - and as always, I'd end up ticking too many boxes; like the GTS interior at £2,234.00! Doesn't take much to get over £100K !!
Suppose it's a good job I bought my S when I did!
Graham

Ah yes and the selection of that option then forces the selection of the interior leather/alcantara package which adds another £2234, then if you do what I did and include the 18 way "Adaptive sports seats plus" it adds a further £1914 to the cost, then just add PDK and voila £100.3K [:(]

Anyway you could always P/X the S next year for the Gen 2, I read in Car Magazine today that all the 911s will be turbocharged when the Gen2 is launched November 2015, the 3.4 becomes 2.9 but with 400HP/400 lb ft of torque and the 3.8S will develop 530HP/520 lb ft of torque so not sure what that does to the current Turbo and Turbo S models. I did actually think of waiting but then my Carrera will depreciate further and no doubt the new 991.2 will increase in price so I'm quite happy with what I've ordered.

Interestng -normally Porsch does ncremental so youd exect the C2S equivalent to be say 430hp - 460p keeping the performance gap with the stock car and leaving room for development. I guess if there is an S it'll be downsized so the 3.8 which is in the Turbo and Turbo S will take on from where they left off.

I thought the 2015 model change was only superficial but here is the article from the latest copy of Car Magazine suggesting it's suggesting quite a bit more than just some changes to the styling http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/Secret-new-cars/Search-Results/Spyshots/Every-Porsche-911-to-go-turbocharged-in-2015-with-9912/

I think it will be some time before the "real" model changes become known.

Interesting though - looks like 3.8S model will be gen 1 turbo +10hp and 4lbft torque so it might be a straight swap for the turbo. They normally increment the cars so as not to alienate the previous versions buyers by it being too much of a step in one go. Maybe not this time...........

Maybe the Carrera and Carrera S will be replaced by one model with the new turbocharged 405HP 2.9 engine and the existing 3.8 Turbo and Turbo S get an increase in power? the new Cayman S is very close in performance to the Carrera 3.4.

...which would leave room for the Cayman GT4 to then get a nice hike up in power. Quite possible, good thinking bud.
