991 GTS

Hi guys.

First time on here. Wow.

Close to ordering gts. Moving from 997 s gen 2. One thing that's bothering me is the centre lock wheels. Should I be concerned or is there really no problem. Opc says no problem but he would say that.

so I thought.ok ask the experts so come on guys. Yes or no.

Thanks
Dave

Ps my OPC called me yesterday to say they have a White and a Carmine Red in and do I want to come in to see ( drive?) - rude not to!

You don't say what you are concerned about.
Centrelocks bolts require a greater force to remove and replace, so different tools are needed, but apart from that they're straight forward enough.

Few people remove the wheels from their 911's anyway whatever fixing they have, but there's an article on centelocks over in the 997 Register technical section, if you want to read up about them.

Regards,

Clive.

Thanks.

I have no intention of taking them off. Probably easier to crack a safe.

I have read about potential punctures and I guess your local tyre depot can't get them off. So back to opc I guess. Having said that I have not had a puncture in the porsche and I just read about the screw in plug so that's covered.

Is there any additional maintenance on the hubs compared to standard wheels?

I will read about them in the 997 forum and stop asking stupid questions.

If all well its down to colour now. Exciting times.

Let us know what spec you finally decide upon - good luck [:D][:D][:D]

Oscar, I collected my new GTS today, I have the Black CL wheels and they look stunning, if you don't have them then you are losing a big part of the GTS's identity, it's quite easy to go on the configurator and mess around with a GTS configuration to the point where it looks just the same as a C4S with a load of options.

I agonised over the puncture issue but to be honest if that happens regardless of the type of wheel on the car and assuming the tyre repair kit doesn't work you are going to be calling up Porsche Assistance who will arrange transport for your car to the nearest OPC to have the tyre replaced, This was the general consensus from those who I spoke to about it and I cannot disagree as there is no way I would let anyone other than a Porsche Technician near my car to replace a tyre.

I will be posting some photos here as soon as I have reviewed those I took today at the handover and selected a few that are the best ones to show the car, all I can say at this time is it is absolutely superb! [:)]

My OPC reckons they won't get that many in 2015, mine was their first to be delivered, they have 2 more for January and February and then nothing for another 4 months so if you have found one and it's a good spec, buy it, better still if you want your own configuration don't hang around too long.

Thanks big cat. Totally agree with your comments and I am now convinced. On to the configurator to sort out a spec.
I was quoted 3 months delivery by my opc.

I look forward to seeing the pics of your car. Enjoy!!

In response to oscarj some pics of my GTS are on the 991 Owners cars thread if you haven't seen them yet

Hello BIgCat,

I have same car and colour coming in March as yourself...

..really interested to know how much you like it?

Hi Platt
My new GTS is just brilliant, I have now driven it 550 miles and it's everything I expected, I'm taking it to Europe 3 times this year so I will get a chance to really see what it's like to drive on mountain passes and the autobahn, I think I already know the answer [:)]
