993 Purchase

Hiya people - first post in the 993 section. Currently ' negotiating ' on a 993 C2 L Plate , Iris Blue, Cream Leather and am looking for a bit of help. Had the 944 S2 for 2 years but the longing for a 993 has become to much. The car is on the standard 17's but I would like to either upgrade to the Turbo 17 Alloys or take my Cup 2's of my 944 but have no idea as to how much that will cost or if the ofset will allow my wheels on ? and also would like clear lenses on the front - cost ?

The car has 66k , full history, recent tyres , battery and throttle switch and is up at £26,995 which is from a very well respected independent of whom I purchased the S2 from - does the price sound about right ( its at the top end of my budget [:(] ) and any guidance at all would be appreciated

Thanks for your help

Chris

Thanks Maurice - the independent is Hartech ( whom I do trust to supply a good car ) and Im going first thing in the morning to hopefully complete the deal - its just the thought of parting with £27k for a 94 car is alien to me as I work in a New car sales franchise and we have a starting car priced at £5,000 [:D].

Thanks for the info on the wheels ( proves what I have learnt ) , Ive read all the FAQ's Maurice ( thanks for that ) and who knows what will happen in the morning.

Cheers
Chris

The offsets for 17" wheels are

Front : 7"x17 ET 55
Rear : 9"x17 ET 55

For driving on the roads I am a big fan of the above wheels rather than 18". To me the car feels 'overly tyred' (if that phrase makes sense) with the wider 18" wheels.

Ian.

Price appears to be at the top end of the scale. I would expect a decent warranty and all the little jobs sorted for that money. Also, does it have aircon? Despite what many people will tell you it does influence the price and your ability to sell it on.

Having just paid a little over £24,500 for a Dec96 993 Carrera 4 Cabriolet, with FSH, 70k miles factory 18" alloys new clutch etc etc, from a Bentley and Ferrari dealer, I hope you are getting a good warrenty and after sales service... Just make sure you get exactly what you want and don't rush into anything.....

wow you got a good deal there zwhitea, what colour is it, and is the roof in good condition also?

Its Midnight Blue Metallic (I think) As for the hood its in good condition, rear window is ok.. no cracks or creases, although a little misty. wheels showing a little corrosion on the inside even the one which is 18months old, and still has to go in for the hood catches recall.

All in all we are very happy with the car, although she did want a 4S Cab, but from doing some research it appeared they never made Cabriolet 4S...

I still can't decide which I prefer however, my 3.2 or the 993, as they are totally different animals..

Are you keeping the S2?

Hi Jason , yep the S2 is staying put at the moment- the 993 was at the thick end of my budget and the sensible thing is ( or so my financial head tells me ) to raise a few more quid to broaden my options ,and in fairness I would be gutted to trade in the S2 as so far Ive had 2 great years motoring and at this stage I cannot afford to run/keep both.

Cheers

dont know if your put off by lhd? or not? - i may be selling my 993 3.8 (yes 3.8! factory fitted rs engine option) in midnight blue to finance a 911 2.7rs. Ideally want to keep it till porsche festival gb but then again....

i'm in altrincham so not far away if you are interested

Marc

Hiya Marc - if its the car in Autotrader then sounds/looks nice but a LHD doesnt fit the bill. Good luck with the sale and new Porsche project

Cheers
Chris

No mines not advertised in the autotrader.

all porsches should be LHD ;-) - better feel, pedal layout etc IMO

have had 3 cars LHD - Lancia evo, golf g60 - never made in rhd so didnt have any choice to get used to it

Never heard any bad stories about Gmund and have also spoken to them over the years.
That price if anything is possibly on the low side, especially from a dealer. Check when the clutch was last replaced and also give the suspension a good going over. If you get some S bends push it through them and see if you feel any softness, or on a long straight with undulations see if the car seems to wallow.
Clutch will cost approx £1k and suspension about £1500

Thanks for the replies, any info helps.

Looking forward to seeing the car tommorrow, the guy at Gmund ( Andrew ) stated the car has had 3 independent inspections within the last 3 years, suspension just had work done to it and is spot on , clutch - will ask and the car comes with a 12 mth warranty ( dont know the full in's and outs )

Would you also go for an independent inspection, I didnt when I bought the 944 from Hartech , but this is a tad more expensive [8D].

Personally would get an inspection carried out as a lot of these warranties are not worth the paper they are written on. You also then know where you stand from day one.

I agree - it sounds cheap... especially by Gmund standards. A bargain? Or does Gmund know something about the car they aren't telling?

As mentioned by a couple of you, at £26995 with relatively low mileage from a respected dealer it does seem a little on the cheap side for their standards ( based on previous sales ) , which may mean bargin but me being cautious if a dealer can pull say £5k from a car which is known to have no faults then they will.

Will get a clearer picture tommorrow, on the PPI inspection, may get Strasse to inspect the car if I like initially what I see.

Cheers

As many people do on this forum I search all dealers stock, if not on a daily basis definitely on a weekly basis (sad as it seems) just to see what's about. One thing I have always noticed with Gmund is that there stock rotates on a relatively quick basis unlike some dealers that I could mention. Maybe the car you are enquiring about is 'realistically' priced as opposed to 'cheap' on the other hand if you want to pay more, then I am sure they won't mind you doing that. [:D]

I bought my 89 Supersport from them last year and was very pleased with the purchase and the way in which they do business - no hard selling, no waffle and in my experience no bull5h*t. I had my car inspected and it threw up one or two issues that Gmund didn't hesitate to get sorted before I bought the car. On the whole I was/am very happy with my purchase from these guy's and would recommend them to anyone - Andy is very knowledgeable and has plenty of Porsche experience that he can talk to you all day about.

I will be buying my next Porsche from them in the not too distant future.

They also do a 'club' night most second Thursdays of the month, where people, customers, friends come along have a bite to eat and generally talk Porsche. I have been to a couple and everyone there is very willing to share their experiences about Porsche ownership.

Just my 2p worth!
