993 Purchase

Well Ive joined the 993 brigade. Just got back from Gmund after a 160 mile round trip and about 4 hrs in the company of the pleasant chaps down there ( easy to say when they are selling you a car [;)] ) - I drove a couple but eventually plumped for
a Carerra 2 , 94 M , Cab, 89k , Gembella Rear Spoiler, front Spoiler and 18inch wheels in Iris Blue with Grey Leather.. I know I was going for a 4 with Black/Grey combo but all the extras like sports exhaust/ tips upgrade & enchanced air intake ? , clear front indicators and repeaters and a full and detailed history made me go for this car - and is £4k ish cheaper than the C4 ( watch it cost me £6k in bills in the first yr [:D]) which is fair as its done 30k more miles .

Barring inspection car is in for new clutch/Mot etc next week and Im aiming for next thursday..

Just the 944 to sell now ..

Cheers
Chris

Just an after thought , the car comes with a warranty for 12 months ( which they have informed me is a Porsche warranty ) am I still wise to go for an independent inspection having agreed a deal with them for Mot/Clutch to be done and other bits and pieces? and having left a deposit.

fine by me, that's how I would have done it !

18's with front splitters.. now that's what I'm taking about ! [;)]

Well done Chris.

Check the wording of the warranty carefully, I was caught out by a warrranty that had so many exclusions it was not worth the paper it was printed on. If your not sure seek clarification by email from the dealer before you part with your cash.

Thanks Ken , Ive saved up/wanted one for quite a while - still cannot believe I will be owning a 993 , same feeling I had when I was waiting for the 944 .

Re the warranty, will be paying close attention , as whilst I have no Turbo's [:D] I cannot afford for the engine to fall out the back and for the warranty to not cover it.

Chris

You may want to check with Gmund - you may be able to upgrade the warranty (at cost) to the next level if there is such a thing as 'the next level' ????

Just a thought.

I know what you mean !

I'm on 104k miles and looking to get to 150k+ without even thinking about a new engine [&:]

and that's with all the track days I do now and again, although I am changing the engine oil every 6k and using general common sense (when I can ![:D])

Just a cautionary note here - the Porsche Warranty is now only available until 9 years of age - a 94 car is definitely not eligible ... [:-]

Maurice , my mistake re wording of warranty, Im getting full details prior to collecting car but they have stated that its the same company that main Porsche dealers use for their used stock ( only taking Gmund's word for this ) but they do seem helpful and genuine , the warranty covers unlimited claims but a max claim of £2k per item ( which I can safely assume will not cover an engine replacement [:)] ) or an upgraded warranty with a £5k limit for about £200 extra...

Roll on the 25th ...

Ensure Air Con works if fitted. (DO Cabs have this as option) When I bought my carrera it needed about £2k to fix it !! (Dealer Goodwill paid for it - excluded on the warranty)

John , the cab has air con and does work [:)]

I have found that although the air con would appear to work in the sort of current weather we are having (ie blowing nice and cold) it's very different to how it will perform on a hot day. You'll may ony know if it really works next Summer. My air con works beautifully at the moment but is crap when its 25C and upwards (I'll get around to working out why someday).

Chris

Are you still picking up the new set of wheels tomorrow???

Stu, unfortunately not as my funds haven't cleared in time [:'(] so Im 99% it will be next Tuesday the 25th ( same date 2 years prior I picked up the 944 [8D] ) I hate waiting for things ...

I was looking on the sold car section of Gmund last night and I assume the Supersport is yours - that really does look a nice example..

Cheers
Chris
