997.2 GT2 RS - WOW!

What do you mean "were like"? They are still like it![:D][:D] But, as with all things, however wonderful, the end must come. In due course history may show that engine was the pinnacle of design and development but given what the shape of future propulsion is starting to look like I somehow doubt it.

TS, quite right. There are only a handful of occasions in human history when we have gone back wards. To the air cooled fans us water cooled drivers are the spawn of Satan and should be burnt at the stake especially when we say we drive Porsche's - to lots of the old guard the last real Porsche was a 993 and they don't care what sort of water cooled engine we use. Each person has their favorite Porsche and era. The 996 was much reviled in its time but a) sold in bucket loads and b) with time was seen to be a great car, not just a good one. Hindsight is a wonderful thing - and that is what I was getting at earlier until the "new engines" have been established for some time with a strong link with successful racing and the actual engines in the car being powerful, efficient and reliable a lot of the old guard won't accept it as progress. By that stage of course we'll be onto the next new engine, which won't be good enough because it does not have a pedigree etc. Porsche are masters at planning out a life cycle for an engine as well as the cars. Starting from a conservative point and in small steps every increasing the performance, efficiency and emissions of each iteration. So the A91 is just at the start, with many more enhancements and improvements planned inevitably leading to more opportunities for the tuner as the engines capabilities are increased.

ORIGINAL: Alex L I have asked my contact at Porsche GB whether this will be the last Metzger engine that ships from the Porsche factory. Be interesting to see what the response is.
Reply from Porsche GB: To answer your question regarding the GT2RS engine, yes it is likely to be the final use of the Metzger 3.6 litre engine, simply because it meets EU4 emission standards, rather than EU5. The 3.6 and 3.8-litre DFI engines meet EU5 already.

Alex you'd better get your name down for the last UK GT2 Gen2 now...........how much will that be worth in the future...........[:D]

Price seems to be coming down. [;)] I was originally told £200K [&:] but I've seen £160K quoted on a couple of occasions since then. I'll check it out next week at the new Cayenne launch - just in case Alex is tempted. [] Regards, Clive

Not tempted Clive - I would much rather have a Scuderia 16M myself for that money. In fact, the 16M is the only car on the planet right now that I am even slightly drawn to.

£160K may not buy you one yet. [:(] They're between £185K and £210k on PH atm. Go for the tintop - they're a much better bet. Regards, Clive
