997 Register Concours 31/08/09

ORIGINAL: dereksharpuk

I have entered the Concours and have just noticed that I need to have covered 3000 miles by Monday. Now as I have only done 350, I need to take a roundabout route, say via Istanbul! Hope I don't pick up too much dirt on the way.

Derek

It looks like you must be looking to change your car again with such a high mileage! ? aTT.

Really sorry I couldn't be there in the end today. Had a nasty bug yesterday which put me in bed for over 16 hours with a high fever.

Shame as I spent 4 hours cleaning the car on Sat, and I am feeling quite a bit better this evening. Was tempted to send Gary in pictures with todays paper next to them as my entry :)

Hopefully the rain early morning didn't make for too dirty cars upon arrival though for those that did make it.

Still, will have a nice clean car ready for Llandow.

You'd have been hard pressed, Martin's car was immaculate and a worthy winner of the 997 concours (and red!). And the sun came out for the prizegiving at least.
Fun event and a good display of 997s, sorry there was a gap where yours was missing Alex, hope you're recovered.

A good day out with plenty of good humoured banter.[:D] Couple that to some exciting racing to watch, just brilliant. Well done to the organisers, judges and successful entrants.[:)]

and the 997 line up

Good to see everyone and enjoyed your company once again laughing and joking especially about this cleaning lark [;)] always glad to pick up tips mine today was bounty kitchen towel came up trumps for me people who were there will know what i'm on about [8D][:)][;)][;)]. Some good pics Peter enjoyed being the filling in between two professionals [;)].

Rich

Having taken home a prize I assume you have washed , polished, taken the wheels off and cleaned all round and put your baby to bed in true concours fashion !!!

Geoff

Of course Geoff [;)] Jane is tucked up in bed fast asleep the idea of taking the wheels off is not grabbing me ps where is the jack kept [;)].

Thank you for your kind comments Peter , I had a very enjoyable day despite the morning rain ( how many times can you dry a car off before getting fed up ! )
I think it shows that concours can be for everyone even a novice like me , All the cars looked great and a credit to all the 997 owners , the judging must be very difficult with such a high standard.
I hope some of you stayed for the Ferrari V Porsche race at the end , the gold Porsche that caught fire earlier in the day passed half the field (mostly Ferrari`s ) to win even with half the rear body work missing.
Thanks Gary and other helpers for making it a succsess for the 997 register

Rich

What a good name for a car, flowing lines, lots of vroom vroom and dressed in white sounds just like a Jane !
By the way you dont need a jack just plenty of kitchen roll and a good towel !! how else would you prepare for a concours !!

Evening guys, I have to say I had a great weekend and this event was fabulous..
Not only did we have the mean and twisted judging on Concours (pleased to say the daggers have now been removed [;)]) what a great days racing to watch [8D][8D]

As said the sunshine did finally come out for the prize giving and I think we were honoured to have one of the directors from Castle Combe to hand over the trophies to the worthy winners...

I do hope that the entrants all enjoyed themselves to what was a hoped fun competition with a great dose of healthy banter.:ROFLMAO:

My thanks to the entrants for spending the time to have their cars judged and pawed over by the Judges..the judges being, Paul Seagrave, James Kirk being somewhat hindered by myself [:D] my thanks to Paul and James for their time and effort.
Also included in the picture is Harriet and Tony, whom without their kind assistance this event wouldn't have been so well organised - thank you

I wasn't the first judge up to the line if I'm honest [&:] but I hope that we judged fairly on what was a very, very difficult competition with all the cars stunningly turned out- certainly better than what my car has ever seen [:(]

The entrants were; ( I'll happily remove the names if any of you have an issue)
John Megarry
Derek Sharp
Martin Barlett
Tony Wills
Geoff Fields
Richard Fennessy
Peter Webb

So on behalf of Rob, myself and the 997 register, well done and thank you.

However, as in any competition there can only ever be one winner ( unless a Ferrari is involved and then we'll give you a result after the FIA hearing)

In third place with a Red car....

Peter

In second place, Richard - In a white car

Hi Gary, many thanks for a great day out. Pam and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the winners were certainly very deserving as their cars were beautifully prepared. We thought the venue was terrific and the racing added a great atmosphere to the day (even if the atmosphere itself was a bit damp at the start!) Thanks also to Tony and Harriet for all their hard work, and it was great to see so many Porsche owners in one venue. All the best, John and Pam

If anyone has a large truck, would they help me cart away all my prizes from the Concours? [:D] Now that I have done 400 miles I doubt if I will be penalised

what abuse have you done to your car in 400 miles that meant you didnt win derek???[:D]

definately time to trade up then!![:D]

Dereks car looked stunning, all the cars did and it was so close it had to be minute details to separate them.
Mileage in the end did play its part but Derek was very sporting and graciously gave others a chance.

No longer using originally-fitted petrol - minus 40 points...[;)]
Oddly I thought the same, he's possibly never yet visited a Petol station in that car!! [:D]
