997 TURBO FIRST DELIVERY

Anyone expecting some sales brochures through the letter box on monday ? Apparently they will be available.

went into my local OPC at the weekend to see what the status is to buy one, told mid year, put your letter of intent in, and £10k deposit in about spring time...
might have a go at that then

Be good to have you back in the fold Nick - not that you've gone away entirely...

I must be well down the preferential pecking order as the OPC have told me 14-18 months lead from deposit day ( 28th Feb ).

Thinking about it, thats only about a year from launch so not too ridiculous I suppose. Had to wait 9 months for the C2S.

Once the speculators bale out and the genuine customers in the queue without the readdies dissappear, you can knock a few months off of that.

You are probably right there.

I was all ready to place a deposit on one come monday but having just had some projected trade in figures on the C2S from the OPC I'm not so sure. The high initial purchase price on the TT is one thing but the savage depreciation on the current motor is quite another.

Apparently an immaculate example, heavily specced ( mine is ) with less than 10k on the clock will be worth tuppence hapeny in a years time !

So much for cast iron residuals.....

It seems all models are dropping. There was a GT2 in the S Times cost £K120something and was being offered at £K70 something and only a few years old.Even the Cayenne seems to lose £K30 in just over 2 years.

Hmm,

Seems to me that unless you are very wealthy and can afford to lose the depreciation every couple of years, the best thing is to take a longer term view and just enjoy what we have. After all, the 911 is a timeless shape and build wise should stand the test of time.

Still fancy a TT though !

I think that this is a bad time for the Performance car scond hand market, they are being hit hard it is not just Porsche but all diffrent makes unless it is rare, unless you are selling a car to buy a second hand one then depreciation is relevent. I think the TTs will hold out well to start with because of the demand, and what a lovely car.

PJ

It would not for me but i can not afford one anyway, I always tend to buy decent second hand so i guess it will be a long while off to get a 997 tt second hand at my price level.

Phil, your path is of course the wisest one. I'm mildly annoyed with myself for all the money Ive lost on new cars over the past few years. Its time to get real I think.

The trick is to find a minter that the previous owner (s) have looked after, immaculately run in, no clumsy stalls, crashed gears, kerbed wheels, mucky carpets from clumsy feet that can't stay on the mats ( I hate that ) etc. They must be out there after all, I've sold four such examples in the last 4 years !.

Off to therapy

If i could i would buy a brand new 911 and run it for say 5 or more years, maybe i will one day but my first experince of a Porsche apart from growing up with my father owning a couple, is a 996, Carrera 4 99 model, which i bought over a year ago with 32.000 miles full opc service history and a one owner car and paied less than half of it's new value, and my next one will also be a previously enjoyed 911 and i hope to go for a 997, as i love the look of the new model, who knows maybe a turbo one day,I enjoy the 911 experince and for me this is the only way i can afford to do it.

No need to go to therapy just congratulate yourself on being able to buy so many new ones.

Phil

OPC told me that my place on the letter of intent list won't count for much with 997TT - priority will be determined by date order of the £10k deposit and a questionnaire about previous history of owning Porsches. I'm having doubts now too about buying 997 TT - 996TTs on 03 plate are retailing about £60k - a lot of money to lose. 997 GT3 is however more appealing and values on GT3s seem to be stronger, decent spec 997 GT3 will be £80k, about £101k needed for a good spec 997 TT
