997 TURBO FIRST DELIVERY

Dilema isn't it.

I too think the GT3 looks attractive, according to Christophorus this month its only 0.3 secs behind the turbo on the sprint to 100mph too.

Whats a chap to do ?

Buy a 996TT and a 996GT2 now, while they are cheap.
Then you can have one for everyday and one for track days.
Get the TT for 45K, the GT2 for 55K, equals 100K, same as a 997TT.
Then when you need a bit more, mod one of them with chip/airfilter/exhaust upgrade.

Wish I'd thought of this before [&:]

5 secs on Autotrader shows a 2001 tiptronic turbo for 50K. I can't be bothered to search properly.
Over the next 6 months I guess a few more K could be lost, when the new ones start appearing.
Guess you could find an LHD in Europe for less.

The figures were to give an idea.
Of course you have to allow something for running costs, and fixing bits and pieces.
Piece of mind would not be as high as with a new one, but you have a lot of options for around 100K.

With 2nd hand prices falling, you could fill your garage with more than one piece of very good metal if you think about it.

I'm not going to do it myself, but I thought I would present an alternative option.
There's no need to always fall for the glossy brochure and the lure of a shiny new one - especially if used ones still look and go like new and will last for 20 more years.

I've just returned from the OPC after handing across my debit card for the deposit and, although concerned about the residual on my C2S, will worry more about it when the time comes to worry about it. [:(]

The OPC has letters of intent for about 45 cars but expect the deposit to whittle this down to less than half. They took a history of Porsches owned and period of ownership but ultimately, apparently, the OPC will decide who gets the cars by determining who is least likely to cash in on the premium and put the car back into the trade.

They had one customer who traded his 996TT the next day for a £40k premium when they were first launched. I don't think he's going to be high on the list for the 997TT.

Despite this, they are looking to supply a car to their 'local' customers within 12 months. I would like a 56 delivery but will settle for 07 as a worst case scenario.

I have eventually talked myself out of it after much deliberation.

The £15-20k depreciation on the C2S and a potential further £20-30k on the 997 tt when its time comes to go was just too much to contemplate.

Off to sulk..

Go on then Sunil, do your best !

No, I am decided !

Put your deposit down and see how the list pans out. By the time your build slot comes up, if you're unhappy with the value of your C2S, take a refund on the deposit and let the slot go to someone else. At the end of the day, right now, it's pure speculation as to what your car will be worth when your TT is available so, secure a spot and decide later. It's at least worthwhile to keep your options open.

Ideally I would like a DSG TT but, apparently, they can't get it right just yet. I considered waiting for the DSG option but who knows if they'll ever get it right so I'm happy to take a manual TT and will consider a DSG - if it ever comes out.

Furthermore, none of us are getting any younger. Our reflexes are slowing, our eyesight is deteriorating and our responibilities increasing and that's the case no matter how old/young we are right now. Life's too short - just go for it!

Nothing wrong with the logic Sunil, Ive used all the same argunments to convince myself too.

The thing is, where does it all end ?, next we will want the power upgraded version, then a turbo S etc etc.

My decision is final.

Maybe.

Regards

Yves

If you have a TT, you probably wouldn't consider a Turbo S - unless it was a Turbo S with DSG!

hmmmm ...

I just read in one of the posts on the GT3 forum that Porsche's German site www.porsche.de already has the car configurator up for the Turbo and the GT3 (albeit in German).

Just checked it out and it appears that there is one confirmed new colour: Meteor gray (not available until August). I did not see seal gray as on option, so maybe meteor gray is replacing it. The two don't exactly appear dissimilar.

Stop it, you are causing your Brother to stumble !

If you understand German, you can spec your TT up online right now on www.porshce.de and get an idea of the final cost.

Help

Just been on the German site to whet my appetite and hey they don't charge extra for Cobalt Blue! There's a saving of £1600 straight away!
