997 TURBO FIRST DELIVERY

I configured the car, made a note of the price, deleted the configuration and repeated another couple of times. At the end of this exercise, I had configured the car exactly the same each of the three times so I know that these are the options I want instead of being impulsive.

Anyway, I took a good look at the cost of the options and it's clear that some of them have been subsidised in the base price of the car. For example, GT silver paint, rear wiper, sports seats etc ... It's questionable whether it's worth taking these options just because they're subsidised. My original cost came out at £102,526 including factory collection - I suspect the cost may end up higher.

So, it's back to square one for me. I know this sounds sad but I might plug the numbers into a spreadsheet to help me decide.

These new models do look terrific.

But, spec up a 997GT3 (£85-90k) or 997TT (£100k++) and these figures make a good used 996GT3 or 996TT look very attractive - not to mention the potential residuals[&:]

Thankfully, its pretty well loaded in standard trim. I have done a similar exercise to you and ended up at just below £102k.

Thats a lot of money for any car but it is an awful lot of car for the money. This is almost race car performance for the road but with all the luxurys too.

How do they do it.

Most 'extras' appear to be covered now so apart from say Tiptronic and factory collection, what else would you need?
I spec'd reverse sensors on my 997, but to be honest there ain't much of an overhang anyway! Red seat belts against black leather looks nice though!

BTW Has anyone seen the black Turbo for Sale at the Sheffield OPC (look on the Used Car locator) it has bright red leather interior - and we talking BRIGHT plus yellow instruments & seat belts. What a contrast!

  • GT Silver metallic - £950
  • Park Assist - £325 - I find it very useful
    08.gif
  • Rear Wiper - £0 [:D] - again, very useful
  • Sport Chrono - £1,015 [:-] - overboost
  • Cruise Control - £294 - a licence saver
    14.gif
  • Sports Seats - £0 [:D] - bargain
  • Heated Seats - £269 - not essential but nice
  • Telephone (even though it doesn't work properly []) - £523
  • 6 Disc Changer - £348
  • Extended Navigation Module - £119 - hmm ... probably find out that it doesn't work but that's because it's the pan-European spec - need to budget £500 for the update discs []
  • Factory Collection - £960 - [:D]

Indeed.

As always, they leave a few essential goodies off the base price knowing that the punter wont spoil the ship for a hapeth of tar.

Sneaky.

I've put my deposit in to the OPC, pleased that Cobalt Blue is now standard and the extras Sunil lists seem sensible to me. There's an awful lot of stuff available which you don't need. Wooden steering wheel anyone? But, come spec time, the depreciation hit of my existing car is likely to be a real eye-opener.

Saw the car at the Geneva show yesterday. It looks better in real than in the pictures, especially the wheels (which I initially did not rate at all), tho I still think the car looks a bit unattractive when viewed head on from the front.

I found the clutch quite heavy. Much heavier than in 997 Carrera S. Is the 996 TT also like this ? Someone suggested it would be lighter once the engine was on.

I heard a rumour that some OPCs are flooring 54 Reg 997 Carrera 2S' depreciation at £12k below list when px for a new Turbo, but have no idea if this is true. Anyone heard similar ?

Paid my deposit on Feb 28, still no news back on delivery dates. My guess is that Porsche GB will review all the applications over the next month or so and then start assigning allocations.

No date yet but suspect at least March 07
On the car spec, I don't like having to pay for a sunroof when I don't want one! And they fit the Porsche VTS as standard - hope insurance companys will accept it. Spec I'm thinking about is
Cobalt blue, black/grey two tone interior (but Atlas grey a possibility)
park assist
rear wiper
sport chrono (just to get the overboost but probably an overpriced gimmick)
stainless steel tailpipes
sport shifter (manual of course)
CDchanger
Thicker steering wheel

Know what you mean about the clutch! I went to the Geneva show on Tuesday and sat in the Basalt car upstairs. Have to presume that the clutch is assisted as that would be murder to drive. The colours are rather boring - only Cobalt is inspiring (but am slightly biased!) Saw a Fountain Blue 4S last year at Nurbergring - now that is different and nice. Sport Chrono benefits extra torque but would this improve in gear performance say 50 to 75?
Also managed to pick up a Turbo sales booklet - in English, was told the week before at my OPC that these weren't out 'til much later in the year![:D]

Has any 'depositor' been given an actual delivery date yet?
G
Hi Graham

Just got back from my OPC after spec'ing my new 997 Turbo, have been told I could expect delivery late June/early July 06 but they've had my deposit for many years now!

Never ordered Tiptronic before but the performance figures are impressive so couldn't resist...

Arctic Silver Metallic, Leather Interior in Black - boring but works best for me
Tiptronic S - a little worried but hope it's OK
ParkAssist - cheaper than a repair
Rear Wiper - it's free!
Heated Seats - for the wife!
Telephone Module - just makes sense, although sound quality is dire!
Three Spoke Multi-Function Steering Wheel - ugly but practical?
Porsche VTS - no choice!
Sunroof - no choice!
Mats! - they used to be free, didn't they?

Anyone looking for a mint 997 C2S (Manual) in Midnight Blue, Metropole Blue Interior, probably less than 5k miles in a few months?

Regards, Christopher

I have a trio of internal options - blue rear centre console, seat backs and seat belts in my current car which lift the interior above the the metropole blue interior. They were on my secondhand car but I'm going to have trouble justifying the expense on the new one, not that you can get blue seat belts any more.
