997 turbo to 997 GT2 Aerokit.

Found a few more pics of the damage from track event. Car was at an event called VMAX200 March 18 basically been running round ever since on and off trying to get my poor 911 turbo right. V.Nice that Andy Keywood at Porsche Central Operations found the NS QP was 10mm out though. Class actually. When I met Andy and his colleagues I found a bunch of proper air cooled enthusiasts and they were actually were finishing off a 356 when I sent mine to them. I visited 3-4 other painters / resto mod firms and this time looked at all their work too on the basis fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. These guys at PCO were the biz head and shoulders above in terms of knowledge, enthusiasm for the project and also "know how" and not much more expensive than the other repairers/resto mod firms maybe 10% more [:)]

I've been advised should be getting more pics soon and they are making wonderful progress.

Few nasty nicks and grazes but the bonnet was simply replaced with a new one as was the door skin replaced. Few more pics. I was slowing down at a VMAX 200 event from 215mph and started aquaplaning as soon as I touched the brakes.

Good to see a car that has actually been used, and will be used in its new livery.

What's the colour choice?

We were lucky that it was raining hard and ended up in a wet boggy field on the day I had an off. This is what happened to another poor 9ff 997 that simply ran out of braking space at same event a few months later in the dry. Me and my turbo certainly used up one of our 9 lives looking at the state of the poor 9ff. A pic of her looking a bit muddy after being dragged out of the farmers field after the off. These sort of things all relative - my car (and me) v.lucky!

Ahh that would give it away - only me and PCO know the colour - all I'll say is my son wanted Rubystone and I was close to giving it the nod but in the end it was bit too much (for me). I've seen a Rubystone 996 and 997 GT2 and thought they looked amazing ;)

A few contenders

Its gonna be wicked whatever colour it is. I have few friends who run Macs, Fezza, Lambo etc. They cannot keep up real world or straight line on track hence she deserves a special colour. I've thrown on trick suspension and we will take some weight out too so hopefully won't feel as heavy as it did out the box on track. Even without trick suspension our 997 turbo easily a match for our 991.2 turbo s on road or straight line. The newer cars turn in a bit better with RWS. Nothing a set of cup 2s can't fix though.

Having said that. I loved the old stealth look TBH so undercover. But silly to stay black. She's so quick its handy having a bright car as other motorists really can't gauge how this thing warps on road. With awd and 700PS its just nuts fast real world.

We're doing a few interior parts too like on this 997 and the washer jets. Also planning on throwing in a set of folding buckets and will do the webbing like on SWMBO's 991 turbo s.

So everything was going far too smoothly. We have an issue with the rear decklid. £18k part! Looks like it has a bonding issue. Hopefully the guys at Porsche Tonbridge should replace without quibble as its looks like a manufacturing defect according to Porsche Reading/9e.

Be interested to hear if any GT2 owners have suffered anything like this?

After a little back and forth just had confirmation rear decklid being replaced with a new one courtesy of Porsche Reading. The alternative was repair but paint may sink in the future! Lordy not on an £18,000 plus vat rear decklid! If that had happened at a non franchised repair bodyshop I may have been in a spot of bother!

Getting a quote for a full retrim too. These things always grow arms and legs. And breath :)

Wow that looks spectacular! What is the rear decklid made of for that price, looks like kevlar (or is that too old school) or is it CF?

Cheers. Its a mix of Kevlar and GF so old school tech hence the bonding issue in manufacture which does occasionally happen. Porsche mentioned they have similar issues with Kevlar/GF spoliers etc on 959. I believe nowadays its all CF on the new models.
