9974S Sports Exhaust?

ORIGINAL: Derek A

as a friend of mine with a 997 C4S (5 months old, 1.5K) has been offered 11K less than the purchase price by his OPC! Oh, and that was based on him ordering a 997 Turbo.

Keep working.

Derek

Derek, sent you a pm, !

yes, as someone who changes their car very frequently (my wife thinks i'm mad!) one has to accept that fun costs money! On the 997 probably something like 7-10k pa depreciation if u keep it for a 2-3 yrs woiuld be my guess. [:-]

Classic wheels are a great choice, easy to clean. Make sure though you spec the coloured porsche emblem inserts they look fantastic and set the wheels of a treat.

If you having a CAB spec the heated seats which makes winter driving with the top down a pleasure.

Anyone had an update on the delivery holdup on retro-fit PSE yet?

Reading aren't responding too quickly.

Cheers, I'm still waiting to hear from my OPC, just sent him a gee-up mail.

I was hoping to get this fitted for the Easter break, but it looks unlikely?

I've spoken to OPC Cambridge today and the news is not good, they have no idea when any systems on order will arrive although they do have the switch!!! They have recently received one system, that was ordered 6 months ago.

Very frustrating, what are Porsche up to especially as they are advertising the system in a recent brochure sent out by them.

Tim

I'm interested in installing this and have had no joy with Reading, Swindon and Bristol OPCs for stock any time soon. Keep getting the same answer which is the database is showing as major back order.

FYI, I have just received this response from my local OPC;

"We have been waiting for a few months now for a delivery,
I have just spoken to the head of marketing at PCGB but they are still
unable to get a delivery date.
I'm told to call again in two/three weeks for an update.

Sorry about this I know it's vague; as soon as I hear any thing ill let
you know."

So it looks as though we will be unlikely to get any fitted this side of the summer?

As if to make my frustration worse I drove a friends 996C4S yesterday with an unswitchable sports exhaust and the difference in sound to mine is quite pronounced.

It makes the car sound exactly as you would expect it to and begs the question why the PSE isn't standard fitment on the 997S - I could actually hear it over my own car with my windows up as we left a set of traffic light in an - ahem - spirited fashion!

If my OPC can't get a definitive delivery date soon, I may well switch back to the Tubistyle option?

As an aside, driving both cars back to back, very quickly on twisty A-roads, there really isn't much in it, the 997S showing it's modest power to weight advantage only at the upper reaches of the rev range. However, I'm not at all convinced about the handling advantage of the AWD system, certainly in the dry. Perhaps a similar wet weather comparison will reveal more. I shouldn't have to wait long - it is Easter bank holiday after all!

Otherwise, visual differences to the interior apart, it felt a very familiar place to be - and cost £16k less but only has 7k more miles on the clock, very nice car - doh!

Was in my opc today and their 997s demo car has the pse on it. It sounded stonking when they started.

They then started a 997s with no pse, sounds like a hairdryer compared to the pse equiped car.

My 996 has fabspeeds on it which sound great but when hopefully I upgrade to a 997 be it an S or Carrera the pse will be top of my option list.

OK, latest update from my OPC, received this morning;

The latest estimated date for release is August, but thing often turn
up
sooner than expected!!

Ill keep you posted

This is barking, imagine if your car was shunted at the rear and the repairers had to wait 3+ months to source a new exhaust? The insurers would be well pleased at having to keep you in a rental car all that time!

I'm once again tempted to go with Tubistyle, although I like the idea of having the PSE and keeping the car stock - hmm, what to do, what to do?

I don't suppose anyone else is getting any better news?

The Porsche Information Centre inform me as of last week that:

'The Sports Exhaust System for the 997 is currently available, however there is unfortunately a backlog. The estimated delivery time for this system is currently three months'.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Not at all encouraging, why bother advertising it. it will 6 months from ordering to it arriving at this rate.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Tim[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Great news, I heard from the OPC today that they have received my exhaust and one other. Its due to be fitted at the end of the month, hooray!!!!

Tim

Thanks Tim, that means the other one isn't mine then!!

Lets us know if you think the upgrade is worthwhile/cost once fitted?

Looks like I may be doing the telling myself, mine has suddenly appeared at the OPC from out of nowhere and will be fitted on the 18th. Not bad for an expected release date of August!

Whilst I am well pleased at the news, how can PGB run a parts supply business with this kind of logistical misinformation?

Had the PSE fitted yesterday for £1,600 all in (incl VAT) and must say, whilst it is a lot of money, I am very pleased with the results.

I'm not sure if my "switching" mode is back to front as with the switch light off, the exhaust is loud and with it on, the exhaust settles down to normal volumes? I prefer it this way round having to manually set it into "stealth" mode but with the sports sound as the default.

Interestingly, in normal mode the sound of the exhaust is way better than the old system, with all the tinny rattles and blowing noises eliminated and with a much crisper note to the engine.

One thing to notice in "sports" mode is that the exhaust is loud at low revs, quietens down in the mid-range (this is for CE approved noise testing apparently?) and then goes back into loud mode at high revs.

You can disable this (I have for the moment due to novelty factor) by a simple disconnection of the terminal block under the engine cover (takes about 10 seconds start to finish) which leaves the exhaust free flowing right across the rev range.

Also, I'm sure it is my imagination but the engine seems a lot keener to rev through to the limiter?

Finally, the chromed exhaust tailpipes look superb - all in all I am well chuffed!
