9974S Sports Exhaust?

See my post above for a scan of the latest Tequipment prices. If an OPC says higher than this, tell them to look in the pricelist guide in their own showroom.

I would assume though that you could aslo get 10% parts being an PCGB member, but I joined a little too late to confirm that.

I've just an email to and left a message for the Service Manager at my local OPC.

I'll let you know the outcome

Cheers

Dave

I would *guess* that with the 10% discount off the parts at £1020.37, and a normal Tequipment total price of £1582.81 you'd be looking at about £1480 for the lot (including VAT).

This assumes you already have the 'Sport' button, which takes 3.3 hours labor, whereas without it the labor takes 4.4 hours (extra 1.1 hrs to put in a new button for PSE). Hence the £1758.78 Tequipment price for non-Sport 997s.

Luckily, I do have the Sport Button, Chrono Pack etc...

I've been quoted £1,758.58 incl VAT.

Wehn questioned why it was higher than the £1,600 that a friend had been quoted, I was told "it's due to your car having both PASM & Sports chrono ...

Should this cause the price to rise ???

Utter rubbish from your OPC! I have both PASM + Sport and OPC Reading (UK HQ) charged me well under £1600.

I think you need to educate them. Even if you brake it down into components and don't follow what's stated in the Tequipment guide (which is what they should follow)...

Parts = £1020.37 + VAT = £1198.85
Labor = 3.3 hours (see my Official PSE Install doc I have) for 'Sport' models multiply by hour rate of about £99 + VAT = £383.87
Total = £1582.72 incl VAT

If they say it's going to be more than 3.3 hours tell them to read my Official PSE doc which states it shouldn't take more than 330TU (100TU=1hour).

Sounds to me though that they don't understand the difference between the 2 installs (sport and non-sport). With non-sport, there is an extra switch space available on the panel, so they fit a new button. This takes an extra 110TU to complete. When you already have Sport (and PASM) there are no free switch locations to have them fitted with so they tie PSE straight into the Sport button. Hence much quicker as they don't have to put in a new button.

The following (photoshoped) pic is NOT possible - i asked like a 1000 times!

Alex,

After applying the PCGB discount, my price is £1,582.72 !!!

Does this explain it ?

Dave

No it doesn't explain it Dave. I never got any PCGB doscount (as I joined a week after I had my PSE fitted) and I paid under £1600.

This is why with the PCGB discount I think it actually should be about £1480 (taking the tequipment price as a starting point and deducting 10% off parts)

You should tell your OPC to go away and read their latest Tequipment Price list.

I have the price list in front of me right now. It's called 'Tequipment 911 (Type 997) Tequipment Fitted Price List' and is very clear on what it should cost you. I scanned the sports pages 12+13 in one of my posts above.

I picked this doc up about 2 weeks ago from my OPC in the showroom so it's not exactly out of date. The line they should look at is 'Sports Exhaust system - with Sport Chrono package' = £1582.81 (incl VAT and fitting).

Dave, please PM me your email address so I can send you the attachment
Cheers

Dave

I have the bill for supplying and fitting my PSE in front of me,as carried out by OPC Cambridge on the 31st May. My car is a Carrera S without the sport button therefore some extra labour over yours.

Sports Exhaust £1020.37 less 10% £ 918.33
Switch assembly £40.86 less 10% £ 36.77

Labour 441units £ 392.93

Net £1348.03
VAT £ 235.91

Total £1583.94

No quibble over the discount and great service

Still slightly baffled by all of of this PSE stuff. [&:]

More expensive, more weight, no more power, must be doing something different with the back pressure to obtain the extra noise ? Does this mean the engine management is changed also ?

All modern cars are strangled to some degree by the exhaust to pass noise regs, not a bad thing, but fitting a freer flowing exhaust should not cause problems. These engines are not fragile and would naturally develop a lot more power if allowed to breathe properly.

Someone out there must have insider knowledge, come on, spill the beans....

Yves

Yves, I don't believe the no more power part myself. Scuderia systems are claiming around 8bhp for the Tubi mufflers only upgrade and 18bhp for the mufflers and manifolds. Porsche claim 26bhp with the PSE mufflers, fancy manifolds and some inlet/head work.

It all points to free flow equals more power, in varying degrees?

The PSE in "loud" mode is merely a diversion of the exhaust gas through a shorter routing in the muffler coupled with a larger diameter pipe. This in theory then should release more power, albeit probably only 5bhp or 1.4%, which is negligable.

What I have noticed however, with the PSE electrical connections bypassed, making it "straight through" all the time is that the engine feels more "free revving" especially above 3.5k revs.

Yes Dave thats understood which is why I said my labour cost is higher, by an hour according to the figures supplied by Alex, read the posts carefully then just order it you'll have no regrets!!!

Neil I can understand what you are saying about being more free revving although I think this is an illusion, the brain thinks more noise, more power and as you say if there is more power its only likely to be 5bhp undiscernable to most of us I would guess

My 997 S is booked in for the Sports Exhaust to be fitted next weekend. I've been promised a nice discount on the £1,582 list price

Sports Exhaust is now fitted (£1,286).

With the Sport button illuminated, the exhaust is a lot louder up to 3,000rpm and then goes a little quiet until 4,500rpm and then gets loud again.

Is this how it should be?

Yes. The logic being that at 20/30 mph (urban driving) the exhaust is quieter, then picks up again. If your moving quickly you shouldn't notice it. But if it bothers you just unplug it and leave it on.
