9th March, Essex Region - 944 Gathering

ORIGINAL: John Sims

I might go. [:D]

sitting in the pub now having washed all the cars except WUF... Just seen the thread so may have to get the jetwash out again tomorrow to spearhead the 944 massive (?) up the A12! Sounds like no shed racing after all and you'll have to leave Terry to face the Mighty 4.6 rangey next month !

Bumpitty-bump.

'Tis this evening.

See you chaps there / at the RV point en route / chez moi, as the case may be!

Indeed. Belinda is suggesting she wants Terry tonight to take Small to Ninja practice so I haven't much choice in the matter.

Despite not having seen the road since before Christmas Beaky fired on the first try this morning (his battery was charged a couple of weeks ago), so looking promising.

Just so no one is surprised, part of this evenings entertainment is a talk on classic bike racing. Obviously we can sneak off to another area so as not to disrupt the meeting if preferred.....I fear it might be a bit chilly (and dark) outside for tyre kicking though.

Indeed, I eMailed the assistant organiser (Greg, I think his name was - nice chap), and he replied promptly with a similar comment. He suggested arriving at 7.45ish, if possible, in order to meet some people before the talk. We're RV-ing at the Redbridge Roundabout at 7.00pm, so we'll make as much haste as possible from there.

Chilly and dark are the two mortal enemies of a decent tyre-kicking and tin-admiring session. Maybe it will simply come to tales of derring-do with a glass of coke and a glowing fire to sit by ... I'm looking forward to it hugely either way.

Just got back in - great to see so many 944's, if only in the dark. Give it a few months when the evenings drawer out a bit.

Again I was taken aside so didn't get a chance to chat and kick tyres [:(]. None the less the talk was far more interesting than I had anticipated it would be.

And here's an interesting 944 link.....The "Interceptor" bike piggy back ECU system is actually a Wolf 3D system (as provided by Lindsey Racing and ProMax) at its core. The bike geezer is fully au fait with Wolf, Motronic etc and can do cars if required.....This could be very handy for those of us who might go stand alone but are afeared that doing so without personal technical back up would be a frightening step too far.

Was great to see everybody, I really hope it becomes a regular gathering of us 944 types in the future. That Interceptor gizmo was certainly intriguing...

I have to report enjoying myself much more than last time :p
It was nice to meet , Jason , Oli Edd and see Jon again , where was Mr Mc Nulty though you were missed ! . l also had a chat with Stephen fowell re Le Mans and found out that a certain well known 944 owner and I used to work in the same shop , ( all be it 5 years apart)
how weird is that. The motorbike talk definately wasnt for me but all in all a sociable evening. I should also mention a man I chatted with who owns quite a few Porsche including a 356 right through to a GT3. He did have a few tales to tell but sadly I didnt get his name. Then again I forget everybody's names anyway [:)]

Hopefully the meeting for 944 folk won't be a one off , time will tell.

Cheers Mas

Nice to meet you last night. We should start the TANDY register ! It was Dave Land who owns the antique, S2 & GT3.

I think we peaked at 10 944's in the end...

hiya all, really great to meet up last night and hope we can meet up again in the near future,so good to put faces to names, looking forward to the clear and bright evenings regards all and thanks oli/edd, i left you when you turned off for petrol! jason p

where was Mr Mc Nulty though you were missed !

Essex is too far for me on a midweek evening, it's across several state lines from rural Bucks, don't you know! [:D]

The Ace nights are a relatively central meeting point for us Southerners. Unfortunately I'm committed on Mondays and couldn't do the Saturdays, but there always used to be a good 944 turnout on the Wednesday meets. Might this be worth reviving for the coming months?

I would like to see a regular 944 biased meet but mid week nights aren't great for me due to getting home from work. If I did go to Ace its not a journey I like but I could go straight from work in North London quite easily. I havnt been to Ace in a Porsche mainly because of the location ( I hate London basically) but I'm sure I will go for a visit when there is a 944 crowd going [;)]

As ever it would be nice to show the other folk that half or dozen or so 944's could park up together it always looks so good.

Regards Mas

Yes was good to put some names to faces finally, big thanks to Oli who was kind enough to have me as co-pilot.

I would very much be up for a regular 944 meet at the Ace, TBO its not too difficult to get to being just off the 406, perhaps arriving a little later (or earlier) would negate the worst traffic.Otherwise it appears London looks somewhat quiet in the regional meet scene, something I find suprising.

Come on guys!
Edd

Chaps,

'Twas indeed an excellent evening. Thanks to all the 944 chaps who turned up, Edd who kept me company on the long drive there and back, and Greg for organising it. As others have said, it was great to put some names to faces.

I happened to think that the Seton Bike Tuning talk was really excellent. Very, very good indeed. Phil Seton clearly really knew his stuff and loved it, and being in the audience of such an expert talking about his hobby and passion was a real pleasure. Yes, it was bikes not cars, but just about everything he said was applicable to cars as well and he talked about it in a way that was easy to understand. Well worth the trip for him alone - it was quite possibly the best talk on anything motoring or motorsport-related I have ever been to (although I haven't been to many.)

Nice chance to give the newly-chipped S2 a bit of a blast as well. Suffice it to say that I am very pleased with it, but I'll do a more detailed thread about that later, when I have a little more time ...
