ACE CAFE 26/9/05

HI ALL

Would like your views on our Ace Cafe meet, whether to get a guest along for a chat on a particular Porsche subject, or a celebrity who owns a porsche or any currently attending wanting to introduce something new.

It could be that we are happy with the current format. Just want to make it an even better Porsche night and convert some of those Beemer drivers!!!!!!

Ideas please................

Also see you all MONDAY 26 SEPTEMBER 2005

Johannes

A guest speaker would be good but the noise levels at the ACE would probably prevent it being sucessful, but we can try.

Some times it's difficult to know who is who at the ACE, perhaps we can have an offiicial corner or congregation point for PCGB

As for Celeb's, Ok do we have a choice, big busty, blonde.....need i go on!

Idea of a meeting point or 'check in' is great, indeed that might be good for many other similar Porsche events. Johannes if you could arrange a coach load of women that would be good too, Celeb's yes if they have talent and are not just pretty faces, The titch from Top Gear would be fun or Vicky Butler-Henderson, Tiff Needell etc. guest speakers too is good idea.

I am hoping to make it there on Monday and think a meeting point or check in would be good as I am sure I see and chat to the same faces each time I go.

Not so sure about the guest speaker as I agree with Beaky about it being a little noisy etc. Ace is best as a very casual meeting place IMO.

Now it is darker/colder over the winter I would definitely be interested in some "technical" evenings whether having a subject matter expert talking about an area of the car or having a workshop as arranged for Brands where a garage diagnose and fix a problem or carry out some straight forward maintenance eg changing brake pads. Would be even better if it was hands on.

My skills are fairly basic and although I may never actually do much of the maintenance on my car I would love to have a go.

Regards

I have been chatting to Richard Heeley (One of the Top Gear Directors) and Porsche owner on another forum and have convinced him to attend Ace Cafe but not sure how he will feel on coming along on an official visit...

Technical session would be great: I spent almost half an hour with a Michelin guys at Brands Hatch; it was fascinating to hear how the Pilot Sport 2 works, he went through every bit of pattern on the tyre and explained how it functions. Would love to hear how the Pirelli's do the job... Though I do agree that this might be better suited for Spring or Summer and maybe not quiet enough being a Ace Cafe German Performance night... but then maybe something generic like tyres will attract the Beemer boy-wonders too...[;)]

This is the type of thing that I imagine the Porsche Buddies scheme will promote. If we can find a willing London based member with a large enough garage we can get together of an evening or weekend and hold our own workshop sessions where we work on the cars in a relaxed atmosphere and have a laugh too. I'm hoping there will be funds available for some tools provided by the clubs new Tool Bank, coming under the auspicies of the 'Technical Committee' but this will take time to set up. Give me a call if you want to further this idea.

ACE CAFE OWNER HONOURED
He's Car Enthusiast of the Year

Mark Wilsmore, owner of the famous Ace Café on London's North Circular Road, is opening its doors this Saturday, 24th September to celebrate his "˜Meguiar's UK Car Enthusiast of the Year 2005' award with a special party at the venue.

Mark beat 25 other nominees to the honour because of his tireless work to restore the Ace Café to its original 1950s condition and, in doing so, making it a magnet for bikers and car enthusiasts once again. Ace Café reopened in 2001.

The award was conferred by an independent panel of 12 automotive journalists specially brought together by Meguiar's, the manufacturer of automotive "surface care products".[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Techical evening would be good but what model or topic do you choose that will cater for everyone, we in London have a wide array of Porsche models - generic topics like tyres, Polishing, oil, fuel etc would cater for most IMO

Just by penny's worth....

Thank you all for your feed back. I shall get there early on Monday the 26th and ask the parking stewards to ask as you come in if you are a Porsche club member and direct you to the front and left side (against the fencing) to park. I shall show the London R20 banner.

As to work shop ideas , I shall start with asking Jaz at Wembley , also if they have / do a mobile service so we can maybe do something at the Ace. With regard to celebrities I have had interesting conversations with some of them and have invited them along. A pop star , couple of footballers and a fashion designer. All proud porsche owners.

I will ask the Ace cafe if we can going forward have the left side of the cafe as when you stand in front of it. It seems a quieter spot and maybe we can test a guest speaker one evening.

I have had a meeting with the Alexandra Palace General Manager and he would lay on parking stewards and if the weather is bad we may be able to park inside in one of the halls. I need to sort out a small fee with him and he would like to call it a Porsche viewing night, so maybe open for Joe public?!

For people who don't know,Ally Pally is about 4 miles on going North , just of the North Circular.

Keep the ideas coming please.

Thank you

Johannes
