ACE CAFE 26/9/05

ORIGINAL: vic cohen

i was most surprised to see a thread on DDK today saying in no uncertain terms how unfriendly ' we ' all were .....................i for one had casually invited a guy called Nick who s been helpful to me 'cos he is also refurbiNg a '72/3 car.......yes we happened to be in a room at the end , 'cos as stated u can hear when someone speaks .............This newer chap was introduced , by me , to at least 6 people who all listened to our trials and tribulations of our refurbs , i thought he felt welcome ? I for one was sitting down , i am one of those old buffers they re giving a good kicking, but as an excuse i am almost 60and had done a days work ! The selection gathered were ranging from ex Chairmen , current main board, to Oiks like me .............WHAT ON EARTH IS WRONG WITH THAT ?? Talking abt Porsches i always thought was classless , ageless etc and this was no way elitist as suggested .................................... i find it hard to align this with what i amreading ,i left at 8 30 to listen to the Bob Dylan Arena program , sorry too old to make the video work .Have i missed something ?

well said there Vic, sorry I didn't have a chance to chat with you and your buddy but got distracted by the burger, eggs & chips....[:-] and then I was trying to explain the Porsche theory of divine light to Bones and Beaky !

now RS don't take this the wrong way, but what were you expecting to happen ? when I 1st went to a pcgb event, I didn't know anyone and probably came away with the same view that it was full of grumpy old men, but I was never expecting the special treatment, but had to really put in the effort to talk to others but it takes time and yes sometimes it ain't easy, but with the likes of Melv, Pete, Jeff and co' around it ain't such a bad club [:-] ... although as you are a DKK man 1st, I am also a 911UK man 1st.... (although for me I have always found it easier to met fellow owners at their cars as opposed to in a room which can be quite daunting) and here I am a year later and still I am getting to know fellow owners... I'll catch you at the next one RS, watch out for the LHD 993 Targa [;)]

if I was to comment on the event, from the comments posted, I was wondering who Johannes was all evening until I searched him out...

at the event I met finally met 944 Rick while he was taking pics (thanks for a play with the camera) and Dave with the very nice fabspeed equipped 964 (and btw it sure sounds like a V8 powered 964!). nice ! [:D]

regards

Looking forward to more London events...

Sundeep, I still haven't met you and I have been to every single Ace Cafe meet this year starting from the Spring Bank holiday one... must make a point to find you next time... do you do the Dysart Arms meet in Richmond?

next time THX..... next time I see the 986 I'll say hello.... we all need name badges !

I am actually Richmond way based [&:] although Dysant times quite fit with my timetable.....[8|]

Very pleasant evening as usual!!

Two apologies from me:

a) I left the Cup Car at home;
b) Left earlyish as cream crackered!!

Belated thanks for a very pleasant evening Johannes even though I felt a little out numbered by the (rather nice) 911s. I've just been reading this thread and you have my sympathy, it is an absolute nightmare trying to get everybody together and something will normally upset someone. The good news is that you are actually doing something and I believe it will evolve into something special, you already have the best and coolest meeting place in the UK. Hope to see you next month if work allows.
Cheers

I usually don't get drawn in to these types of threads, but feel I have to on this one. My apologies to Renn and James and any other Porsche nutter who felt offended. I am the guy who organised it all. You see it is like politics sometimes running these events/ meets. You go with the majority. First and foremost I am a porsche nut. More nuts than most porsche owners, however I am looking to cultivate the Ace and so does the Ace owner, to become a PCGB and PORSCHE NUT evening.

Hence I initially have to show what member benefit I can give, then what can we do for both members and nutters/ enthusiasts. This way we can built our own Porsche night there. Hopefully then the enthusiasts will become members too.

I feel distraught to think new PCGB Members felt uninvited. The section PCGB members only was also there to monitor free food and drink to members , which is one of those member benefits I mentioned.

As a good organiser should do, I have taken note of all your comments and shall work towards some of those changes and to embrace all us Porsche nutters.

At the same time ,Renn and James, it takes two to tango and no none of us are stuffy. I for one spend most of my time outside looking at the cars. I saw your cars and very nice indeed.

So until next time, to all you Porsche nutters, and James and Renn come and shake my hand and us stuffy PCGB boys will buy you a round or two and you can show me your cars in detail!!!

Cheers

Johannes

Johannes,

You still have Boxster S on your car list. Thought we told you to remove it.[;)]

If we provided an Bright Yellow Kagool to every Porsche nutter, then it will be easy to identify you from the Hell's Angels.[:-][8|] That way you won't get left out. Just thought it was a bright idea.

Simon, since this is the second time you have mentioned it on this forum, we would love to hear your wisdom on why you feel Johannes should get rid of his Boxster S? [:)]

OH FOR GODS SAKE IM ONLY KIDDING!![;)]

But IMHO a 911 is a better car though, and a GT3 is better than that, and a Turbo S is better than a GT3 and a GT2 is ..... and so on. But they are all Porsches and i love them ALL, even Boxsters. Keep it on your list buddy

Aren't you only meant to kid once, not twice? [;)] What I was suprised is you got away with it in on a thread which was highlighting Some vindictive characters on here?
This is exactly what we are taking to get rid off from this forum i.e. mine is better than yours attitude... [:)]. This is a Porsche owners forum not what car is better...[;)]

Really sorry but it had to be said... [:(] and it is not because I am a Boxster owner as I had posted a comment when you had mentioned, "Porsche should only do 911, Not try to be something it isn't Ahem, the Cayenne" on the Panamera thread...

Apologies if this is offensive as it is not meant to be or you feel I am overreacting as I would prefer to say as it is than to post threads like Some vindictive characters on here? which doesn't solve anything...

Oh, really sorry for taking up this thread and London region space for the above and to make it up and bring it back to Ace, I buy Simon a pint at the next Ace Cafe meet...:ROFLMAO:

Don't worry mate, i've got pretty thick skin. My preference is 911 and i like to have a bit of fun now and again with other makes and models. ie Pink Panamera and yellow kagools etc

It can get like the Labour Party Conference, all stuffy and boring.

I'll take you up on the pint offer though[;)][:D]

Absolutely, and I'm not buying a 911 until they make it mid-engine [;)] or I have kids... whichever come first.:ROFLMAO:

ORIGINAL: Beaky

Did I haer you're buying the next round, Mines a pint of 4x then[8D]

Only if you post something controversial and let me have a go at you....LOL :ROFLMAO:[:D][:)]

Ok, to quote from a favourite of mine: -

"Your mother was a Hamster and your father smelt of Elderbury"

Did that work[8D]

Hi Sundeep,
Were you going to drop us a note/link with regard to the cheaper (£200 as opposed to £600) Xenon light upgrade option, there are many on early 911 owner that would be very interested.

Thx
