cheers Johannes for a grand evening......[:D]

good to meet up with old and new faces !

Indeed, it was really good to have the partitioned off bit Johannes, definitely met more people this time due to the arrangement...
Looking forward to more London events...

Sundeep, I still haven't met you and I have been to every single Ace Cafe meet this year starting from the Spring Bank holiday one... must make a point to find you next time... do you do the Dysart Arms meet in Richmond?

It seemed like a good turnout last night - both for the Porsches and the BMWs!! I was pleased to finally meet Sundeep and see some the other regulars - Rick, Feroz, Melv, Vic etc. Some of the less regulars too - Jeff and Johnnie to mention a couple. Not to miss Johannes either!! Hopefully see a few of you up at Husbourne Crawley on Saturday??

Regards

Dave

Looks like you had a good time, but it seems the 'cornered off' thing by the PCGB alienated some Porsche fans / owners who turned up. It gave the appearance of a 'them & us' attitiude by the PCGB [:(]

True, I know Boxnet guys come to the German Performance night too... but as I had posted earlier, I actually got to speak to certain PCGB individuals whom I have seen at Ace but I wasn't sure if they were Porsche owners... As Bart Simpson says, "you are damned if you do and you are damned if you don't". I'm sure we will come to a half-way answer on this forum...

I'm sure all Porsche owners were welcome?
I thought it was just to seperate from the "boiks & Beemers"?

The door did say, "PCGB members only", maybe just a, "Porsche Enthusiast Meet Here" might be a bit friendly? I'm sure if the space is set aside every time, we will need no signs...

Absolutely correct, it was just sectioned off so we (that's ALL Porsche owners and anyone else for that matter) firstly could identify themselves as being so (a congregation point) and secondly could have a chat at reasonable audible levels - it gets very noisy at the ACE

It was never intended to act as a them and us, next time just walk in and say Hi [:)]

i was most surprised to see a thread on DDK today saying in no uncertain terms how unfriendly ' we ' all were .....................i for one had casually invited a guy called Nick who s been helpful to me 'cos he is also refurbiNg a '72/3 car.......yes we happened to be in a room at the end , 'cos as stated u can hear when someone speaks .............This newer chap was introduced , by me , to at least 6 people who all listened to our trials and tribulations of our refurbs , i thought he felt welcome ? I for one was sitting down , i am one of those old buffers they re giving a good kicking, but as an excuse i am almost 60and had done a days work ! The selection gathered were ranging from ex Chairmen , current main board, to Oiks like me .............WHAT ON EARTH IS WRONG WITH THAT ?? Talking abt Porsches i always thought was classless , ageless etc and this was no way elitist as suggested .................................... i find it hard to align this with what i amreading ,i left at 8 30 to listen to the Bob Dylan Arena program , sorry too old to make the video work .Have i missed something ?

Actually we did walk in and say Hi. I conviced a mate of mine to come and meet up with the PCGB meet at the ACE last night. It was late notice and he travelled through the traffic in his mint Porsche 914 2.0 to be there, I was in my 911 also all the way from wimbledon. I had also tried to convince a couple of other pals to come along in their early 911's too. In a way I am glad they didn't make it as the atmousphere was stuffy and not very wellcoming to new members at all. In fact I had greater indepth conversations with the BMW and Merc owners then any of the PCGB guys.

It was a real dissappointment. We stepped into where you guys were but it was cold. There was no questions with regards to where we had come from, or what we were driving or any introductions to any other club members. We kinda had backs turned to us and then felt ignored. So we stayed for a minute or so and then looked at one another, shrugged and wondered off to look at BMW and speak to their owners and talk cars.

I really wanted it to be a good night, I really wanted what they say about the closedness of the PCGB not to be true. However all I can do is confirm that it is on the evidence of that night. Seems like a old boys club.

I have 7 or so Porsche owning buddies who meet up now and again and I believe ALL of them are PCGB members like myself. I was hoping on the strength of this night I could have attractted them to the night. Imagine 7 more early Porsche's in the car park.

Not impressed really. [>:]

Jeff, i'm sure that's some bloke taking a leak on your Turbo cab[]

I thoroughly enjoyed myself last night but although P.C.G.B. addressed the problem of identifying where the members were I didn't really like the idea of a seperate P.C.G.B. area if we are going to do that again instead of having a sign saying 'P.C.G.B. members only' (although from my height I completely missed that) maybe we should have a sign saying 'P.C.G.B. welcomes all Porsche enthusiasts', then perhaps we wouldn't give other forums the excuse to call us 'C****' and 'Lots of old duffers with Porsche's', especially when the posters are not much younger than some of us either. Non P.C.G.B. still seem alienated by us I don't know why but if we want to get new members and get back some of those we have lost we have to address this issue. Johannes what about getting some funky ACE Cafe/P.C.G.B. badges for members to wear then everyone can see who we are, I wouldn't mind wearing one if it helps break down any of these perceived barriers.

Yuck! ...and no one ever warned me as I then took over Jeff's space; Jeff I assume you left early to clean the stains? [:D]

Blimey[]
I didn't even go and i had a great night[;)]

I turned up at the Nurburgring in July and Jeff (PCGB VP) virtually jumped on my bonnet, shook my hand, started taking pictures etc and i'm on the front cover of Porsche Post this month as a result!!

So maybe it's your aftershave??[8|][:D]

Best thing to do is 'GO AND INTRODUCE' yourselves.[]

First of all we did introduce ourselves! Please read my post carefully. Then the backs were turned on us we felt silly standing watching those guys backs and listening into their conversation. So thats not really what I call a warm wellcome. Then we decided to maybe wander out and hang around for a while by the Porsche's then decided to leave.

This is what Bones posted on the DDK froum and my response.

Hey apologies from me if anyone had there noses put out by P.C.G.B. members at the Ace that is certainly not our intention. If any of you guys go there again (looks unlikely) if you see a guy in an ally wheelchair say hi I'll chat about Porsches all night, I was inside out of the cold last night in the back room and didn't realise that there was a sign on the door saying P.C.G.B. members only, new members have asked organisers to make current P.C.G.B. members more visible to newcomers but this attempt may have backfired and no doubt we'll take on board what people are saying and try again.
Incidentally this is no way an apology from P.C.G.B. as I can't apologise on behalf of other members but we are all Porsche enthusiasts so let's not fall out.

Well we did go in anyway to say hi.
Nevertheless mate no worries. I guess I might make a trip down next month, maybe. Again its nothing personal, it was just a really unwellcoming that night at the ACE with the PCGB.
No hard feelings, I guess we all love Porsche and it as certainly most probably a misunderstanding.
Its all good. 8)

Well, folks, I went and enjoyed myself - and saw some of the faces behind the cryptic names on this forum. After a short while everyone seemed both friendly and helpful - especially when I revealed my total lack of technical knowledge about looking after my car.

In any event, why not come and join us in Cambridge on 6th November - have a look at the thread on the Boxster forum - the invitation is on http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=139394 and ownership of a Boxster is not a pre-condition for coming along for the fun. Do let either poor and long suffering Mark or myself know if you are attending; reply through the Boxster forum as above, please.

Looking forwards to meeting others later; at the Ace cafe next month and in Cambridge in November.

Nice to meet you last night Vic. I left Renn Sport at the door as he was coming in to say hello. Maybe I should have come in, I could at least have introduced him to you !
