Another Pedal..

Excellent pic Andrew - at first sight I thought it had only 2-wheels and really was flying.!

Nice work with the GT4. From her recent mutterings, it doesn't sound as though Nicola is going to let you out in it for a while though.

A year ago Porsche did announce the Cayman GT4 Rallye.

So much for Porsche Connect which says ...

... but the car says

EED718-F1-ACF7-401-A-B7-D8-78-CD871-BAC98.jpg

so do I need to redo 566 running in miles?

As a current VW owner, I have the same Connect app and needless to say it pants!. My current mileage is out and it shows the car is unlocked when it isn't and doesn't lock the doors when I press the soft lock button.

I've grown to the conclusion that VAG are lagging way behind other manufacturers such as Merchandise who's Mercedes Me app is superb.

Ha, my Mercedes Me app is virtually useless, drops connections frequently. I have found the Porsche geo fences work well except I haven't found out whether it sends / how to set it to send alert notifications.

Hi Ralph,

I have the same mileage under reading problem on the PCC app, so it's not just your car. Fuel and range are correct.

I haven't raised the issue with Porsche .... yet!

I called Porsche Connect yesterday evening with two issues, first the mileage difference above and secondly whether it was possible to set email/text notifications if the geo/speed fence parameters are exceeded. Porsche Connect said "the app is Vodafone's so you need to call them on both questions"

I called Vodafone this morning and Jodie knew all about the mileage thing, they have had a number of owners reporting this issue in the last week. The app is a Porsche app, and Vodafone have raised the issue with Porsche. The timing tallies with my experience because when I connected to the car this week, the app initially showed the dash mileage, then when it updated it showed the lower incorrect mileage. Odd though that it appears the app has not been updated between last and most recent connections. My installed version is 4.48.02 which apparently was released 10 months ago.

On my second question, Jodie said the app does not send notifications other than within the app's "Messages" section. Pretty useless really, but Jodie did say "the Vodafone app does send notifications via text" How do I get your app said I? "Ah well you need to be Vodafone security customer and have a car other than a Porsche", said Jodie.

Interestingly the app developer is shown as Vodafone Automotive Italia S.p.A..... I have just been on the App Store and put in a negative review - about the only thing I can do apparently.

Hi Ralph,

If you go to the 'Trip' function and slide across to the total trip display it displays the correct mileage in 'Distance'. The ' My Car' value seems low by a factor of 1.6, perhaps wrongly converting miles to km.

Ironically we are lucky to have two apps as there have been more issues the the 'Connect' app, which on the latest cars provides the VTS functions, several owners have been locked out or have been unable to start their cars.

Nick

ps. There is a joke here 'How many Porsche apps do you need to change a light bulb'. Trick question on the GT4 as the bulbs are mostly LED or are not accessible by the customer, though the answer is in the 'Good to know' app.

I'm 6 apps in to run the GT4:

Porsche Car Connect - for the VTS

Connect - for Navigation and Phone functions

Good to know - the online owners manual

My Porsche - To book servicing

Track Precision - The fun app [;)]

Roads - Should be fun if we can ever drive our cars without restrictions

Nick,

I have received a request from Vodafone to provide evidence of the different mileage and I have sent them the two images I posted here a day or so ago. I also sent them the app developer detail showing it to be Vodafone Automotive Italia S.p.A.

Nick, the trip detail you mention shows yet another mileage, even lower than the Car Connect splash page value and about 50% of the dash value - obviously light years rather than km [:D]

Perhaps the app like the car is complaining of how little ''exercise' it's had this year. Mine since mid-march has had three trips out. All were to our other garage, none outside the North Circ. [:(]

A trip to Devon would rectify that! Sadly those that think they are invincible and obviously missed the point of lockdown have upset pretty much everyone in the area so I wouldn't head they anytime soon.

Checked the app 15 minutes ago and it was all km values. Dash was unchanged from imperial values posted earlier.

Went back to app just now to get screen grab but the app was back to the old wrong imperial values.

Version revision of app unchanged so I am guessing something about car‘s state, battery?

Hi Ralph,

assume you didn't request the values to be displayed in km.

Nope, I looked for a toggle in the app to switch units but there was none. Dash still loyally showing miles.

I've even tried resetting the app with no joy.

I can't see Porsche fixing this as all the latest models use connect to manage everything. Ironically (for lockdown) Porsche have just updated 'Roads', useful if you're planning on some scenic drives in the Durham area or a virtual road trip into France but nothing else.

Remote mirror folding vs being able to remote lock the car, don't get me started on that either.

But I can toot my horn like Mr Toad

... and flash indicators just in case I've lost my bright yellow Porsche with a big wing in a car park of other bright yellow Porsche's with a big wings! Yes, so useful [:D]

My CTEK conditioner failed some time last week and it took a couple of days to get a new one. Battery voltage down but restored with new one connected. But the “battery protection” had been triggered and I am now getting periodic alarms, only one of which triggered a call from Vodafone.

It is surprising how quickly the battery voltage drops without conditioner/use and I now have to reset window and tyre pressure sensors. Oh and Amazon declined my 5 year guarantee pointing me at CTEK so another battle with Amazon.

Anyway off SORN on Monday and down to Plymouth and Dartmoor.

BTW nothing to do with Car Connect misbehaviour which continues.

re: TPMS - that's another 718 annoyance, it doesn't display the pressure until you drive the car. Both our 987 and 981 displayed continuously. Battery lasts 4 years on a 987 and about 6 on a 981. No idea who at Porsche decided that battery life was more important than knowing the tyre pressure before you drive off.

Re: Modern Porsche's consume power like nothing else. Our 356 you can leave for months and it will start in a heartbeat, the 987 5-6 weeks the CTEK indicator is red but the car starts, I once left it 8 weeks and it reluctantly started. The 981 4-5 weeks and the CTEK is red. No battery alerts yet but it the thought of leaving it longer is worrying. Good excuse to drive it I guess.

Sounds like you need a wingman for the moors!
