Anyone else excited?

Well I must admit that although I am a fervent Schumacher fan I am looking forward to this F1 season more than I have for may years. In these years of declining interest in the sport it needs a bit of a pep up to attract the disgruntled fans back to the sport. I'm looking forward to seeing Maclaren take a few wins and hearing the national anthem on the podium again.

Incidentally I've read that BMW are hosting an event where Heidfeld will pilot his BMW F1 car round the Nordschlieff. Although they say it is an event to celebrate BMW's time in motorsport and times are not important I can't imagine he is going to be hanging about. It'll be intersting to see what time he does post - I think Schumacer did a low 7 mins lap in an Evo so i'd expect it to be well within the 6 minute time. I suppose it is the only way BMW can beat Porsche on the ring - they've tried and failed so many times with their production cars.

Did you read the BMW ice-driving article in Car last month? Times were not exactly great, but then an F1 car on ice is an interesting idea....[:D]

Bit of a shame it is 2:00 am for qualifying but has to be seen.

Don't forget to log on to the F1 web site and get the lap times (the same screen that the commentators get to see) It puts a whole new dimension on the race. I tend to spend more time watching the figures than I do watching the TV.

Not sure I am excited but am mildly hopeful it will be a season thats more than just a one or two horse race. Though until the regulations get changed back towards favouring mechanical grip over aerodynamic the truely great close racing of years past will never return.

When I was growing up my sporting hero was Gilles Villeneuve - now there was a driver !

I'm also looking forward to the new F1 season looks like it might be a good one I'm a mclaren fan myself have been for years been a bit dissapointing of late but hopefully some new drivers may make the team work a bit better.
Shame I can't watch it in the morning due to wanting sleeps after I will be working the evening shift and day shift too so I'll be up from 6.30 in t mornin and nearly 12ish in the evenin it all good fun.

Senna for me, but then most people in my age group that follow motorsport feel the same.

F1 looks interesting this year purely because of all the team changes. However what I have been reading says that Fezza have a big advantage from testing so if perhaps Fezza dominate the first few races the excitement will dissipate very very quickly.

Senna for me
same here I suppose that is sort of why i'm a mclaren fan seeing as when he was in mclaren he did well and were also quite entertaining at that sort of time. I believe he also won his 1st world championship in the same year I was born.

Despite my constant moaning about how lame F1 is these days and how much better racing is when it's on two wheels, I am getting quite excited too.
Must admit though that I'd much rather see day-glo red and white McLarens and Williams' sponsored by Canon than the current crop. Why are the current cars such eyesores? Also think that they should have manual transmissions, no driver aids and slick tyres. Sparks would be good too.

Justin.

2 wheels is the way forward and always has been close... that ducatti on GP tho... amazing how quick it left rossi on the straight!

whats going on with F1 then? ive not watched it for ages now? whats changed for this season?

Must admit to looking forward to a (what appears to be) more open season than last - altohugh last year was better than the year before by far!

Can't truly wet my pants about it until it goes back to manual gearboxes, steel brakes and no driver aids.

Oh, and I'm an unashamed Mansell fan (probably because of the Monaco Grand Prix effort), Mustache and all!

It would seem that this year (although there is only on tyre supplier) each driver has two types of tyre; one better than the other subject to track conditions. "And...?" you say. Well, all the drivers have to use both the good and the bad set of tyres. I assume there is a time limit or limited use through wear on the good set.

I agree the motor bicyles are more exciting to watch but I can't relate to them in the same way as cars. F1 still floats my boat.

Bit of a dilemma this year..
I'm always a Ferrari fan but don't really like Raikkonnen, and would like to support the Brits but have never been a fan of Mclaren.
So I guess it'll still be Jenson for me although it looks like his car still won't be quite good enough.
Hard to work up the enthusiasm when the old classic circuits are all sanitised in the name of safety, and the new ones are all characterless and identical.
Hopefully we might see some close racing this year but somehow I doubt it.

Similar situation for me Steve, Since I was brought up in the Mansell years i'm really a Williams fan first and foremost and a Ferrari fan next, however it's difficult to see how Williams are going to halt their current slide into oblivian. I would love to see them come back but I don't think it'll happen. I think i'll have to switch my alleigance to Maclaren.

Pretty much standard fayre for F1 these days [8|]

Please remember no spoilers until at least the end of today. Many people will have taped it or be waiting for the rerun on ITV this afternoon so won't know the result.

We won't be popular if we ruin it in advance [:)]

Well if they can't be bothered to set their alarms for 2:00am and then spend Sunday in a blurry eyed twilight zone they obviously haven't enough interest to deserve not being told the results. [:D]

Tell 'em I say.

While the results were quite heartening I didn't think the race it's self had much to get excited about. I might have fallen asleep periodically but it was difficult to tell.

I, too, had the strange feeling that I had fallen asleep after the first lap and woke up for the podium.......

At least Kimi has developed an eloquent, interesting and humorous character for this season! [8|]
