Anyone else excited?

I had the forsight to TIVO it, so when I woke up at 5:30, I watched it with the added benefit of fast forwarding the breaks. I ended up fast forwarding a number of the laps at the end as well - took me an hour to watch the 2 hour programme!

I hope there's more action in the rounds to come - after Hamilton's move on the first lap, nothing of note happened (okay so a Ferrari at the back overtook some much slower cars, but what else!)

At least ITV are showing the TOCA championship (or whatever it's called these days), so there'll be some proper action motorsport going on.

Had I realised, Channel 5 were showing the Indy 500 which might have made a decent race flicking between channels!

Yes it was all strangely familiar wasn't it. I think Lewis Hamilton summed it up when asked if he is going to drive in F1 like he did in F2 with his reply that it is very very difficult to overtake in F1 due to the sensitivity of the car to aerodynamic downforce so he is unlikely to be overtaking as much. Oh well I live in nieve hope that they'll see sense and take the sport out of the hands of the Aerodynamicists and back into the chassis designers.

Did you see the accident with Coulthard? That was scary. Makes me think some rule changes may be coming to improve the safety of the cockpit area.

Fezza seem to have a massive advantage. Kimi put in a couple of laps that where miles faster then the Macca's, looks like he was just crusing round to an easy victory and I think this explains why Alonso looked depressed.

How we all look forward to the first race of the season . . . .and then by mid-way through it, I'm so bored I half watch and half read a car mag. Only real interest was seeing how the new boys and team changes work out, and no real surprises there, were there? Kimi was never going to be slow in a Ferrari was he, nor Alonso in in a Macca, or for that matter, Hamilton. For all the publicity, you'd think Hamilton had just appeared, jumped into an F1 car and performed a miracle, whereas the reality is that he's been a professional driver for 10 years, never had a day job as we know it, been under the patronage of the Ronster and all that that entails for that period, and over the past 6 months driven thousands of miles in an F1 car. Am I being super cynical in believing that any kid with a modicum of talent, given those advantages, would have done well in one of the two best F1 cars of the day? Was good to see Heidfeld go well, and also the Williams show signs of coming back. Gutting for Button though, with all the money that Honda must have spent on the new car, totally eclipsed by last years model.

Although I can understand where they are coming from I have real problems with old timers like Coulthard hanging on when they are not really challenging the leaders. He should hang up his helmet and make way for a new upstart. This isn't the first time DC has gone for a woefully ambitions kamikazi style overtake attempt and got it horribly wrong. Maybe his judgement is becoming impared in his old age!

Scott I agree, loads of people would love to have the chance to drive just one GP. However DC is a decent bloke and with a head that square he is doing all square headed people a world of good by reminding the public that a block shaped head doesn't stop one from being successful in life.

While I accept that Hamilton has worked hard to achieve his seat, his times were so close to the current 2x world champion (who he beat into the first corner) that I think he could well be a driver of exceptional talent. His next big test will be if he can keep his eye on the ball among all the hype. Button fell into that trap and has taken several years to pull himself back IMHO.

I thought that PR job was done by Kryton in Red Dwarf [;)]

Yeah but the dodgy american accent spoiled the effect somewhat. Does this mean there is no point to DC in F1 anymore? Its not like he needs the dosh to repaint the flat in monaco (or monarco if one wants to sound posh, or like a twonk depending on how you view things)

Rubbish.

I could have done the same if I were 20 years younger, slimmer, fitter, better looking, naturally gifted and mentored by Ron Dennis.

Probably....[&:]

I reckon he needs to shape up boot camp style. All the other drivers seem to be going for nice tight haircuts now whereas Button is taking the relaxed pop star thing to an extreme. He is the only driver I can think of that has helmet hair even before putting on a helmet! I swear he looks neater at the end of a race then at the start of the day. He will never be an F1 champ whilst he has the stupid goaty, stuble and messed up hair IMHO.

OK in this case I am definitely not posting a picture of myself!

Utter piffle! Alonso did it with a trained hairy caterpillar hanging from his bottom lip. I think they should at least put on a tie before ascending the podium. At Monaco, a bow tie and dinner jacket.

I like Button; he is more of a racing driver in the mould of Eddie Ervine, James Hunt and Graham Hill - if you can't drive it, or drink with it, then jump in the sack with it. [:D]

I have a nasty feeling Hamilton will be the manufactured boy band of F1.

Yeah but Alonso is Spanish so it is more acceptable in a Salvador Dali sort of way. Hamilton hasn't really done anything else in life so it is not surprising if he comes across as if he fell of the F1 production line. Personally I have much more time for him then a walking mouth like Irvine, although having said that if Irvine was in a bar and had a couple of "extra's" going spare I am sure he would be my bestest friend ever..

Hi John,
You might like Button, but he`s still the Tim Henman of motorsport
