April 20th Trackday and Lincs weekender

Saturday 20th April 2013

Its been a while since we had a trackday and following on from the great time we all had at Llandow I've been looking at some circuits both in the UK and Europe.
Then I noticed the Porsche owners day taking place at the new circuit at Blyton for what I think is a fair price..
Admittedly there are more Porsches attending on this open day but we have been given a warm invite from Tipec for who this is part of their 20year celebrations, for us to join as the register.
The trackday is on Saturday the 20th April and I'd look at having an overnight and then a meander through the Lincolnshire countryside heading back towards the South West and the motorway network- but obviously the long way round.[:D]
The circuit is ideal for both novice and experienced alike. No crash barriers to hit and huge run off areas if you get things a bit wrong, it offers a slightly longer straight than Llandow, which should allow the 997 to stretch it's legs a bit [:D]- (I've checked and they will allow the odd Blue interloper to join them too [;)])

If we have the interest then I'll look into the accommodation and a route for the Sunday

Some interesting lines in the vid.[:)]

Shame it looks a little too far from Guisborough as the hotel we stayed at there last year was very pleasant as I recall.[:)]

Regards,

Clive.

Yes, odd lines indeed but the owner was onboard and I think it was to show the circuit rather than the lines [:)]

Yes the two places do sound very similar...
The circuit looks to be very social, as in that the majority of the circuit can be seen from the pit area which I think created a great environment on our last day we had.

I did look at a European circuit but this seems such good value and a safe place to start.. and whilst not all 997, it is a Porsche day (+1)

Hotels are a bit few and far between, so if anyone has any recommendations, do shout up...[:)]

Sadly this is the same day as one if my old school friends wedding, so I won't be able to attend.

I'm up with Chris at CG right now; worth me suggesting he comes along with his mobile rig?

Hi Alex, it might be an excellent idea, however let's see how much interest the event gets before we do..

You should have let me know you were there, I was going to pop by and say hello..

Thought you may have already been over for a realignment job since your last trip to North Devon. [:D]

Ohhh !! Porsche day on my home turf (Nearly!)
Hope I have my licence back by then and sounds good to me

Probably the best hotel in the area would be Forest Pines. Its about 10 miles from Blyton. If anyone wants details I will look them up and add them here. Nice safe car park for everyones pride and joy too :)

Wow ! I didn't realise it was that pricey... A friend of mine works there. I will ask her if she can get a cheap room. When she's slapped me and told my wife I will explain why :))
There are a few other less extravagent places though, I will do some homework !!

Clive, I can book a room from £89 at the moment..[&:]
It is the hotel I was thinking of and possibly the only nice hotel in the vicinity.. but it is heading north rather than south as I'd hoped to..

Garry,

You may be interested to know that the Black Horse pub in Blyton has some rooms and is only a few minutes from the track:

http://blackhorseblyton.co.uk/

I stayed there a couple of months ago when I attended the R4 novice driver experience day. It's £50 for the room with breakfast. The rooms are new, very clean and spacious, relatively spartan but all you need for an over-night stay, and the pub serves some good grub too.

Blyton's an interesting little technical track. Only about 1.6 miles long, flat but with plenty of twisty bits and with an excellent recently-laid surface.

You'll enjoy it.

Jeff

Thank you for the information Jeff, really looking forward to the day [:)]

I had a look at the Black Horse but see they only have 6 rooms.
Usually as a register there is quite a few of us and much of the camaraderie happens in the bar after these types of days, so I usually pick larger establishments- although the appeal of the more medium sized venues can bring better service!!

We'll being as this event is limited to just the 50 cars, I thought I'd book my slot [:)]
Just off to check the hotels......

Having co-organised 3 events at Blyton Park with R4 and Instructed for PCGB, 6th gear and 1 on 1 coaching at Blyton. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any help or advice. I am less than 40 minutes away from Blyton and good friends with Richard (circuit owner). The circuit is fairly technical and demanding with vast run off areas, top speeds are not very high but brakes get a hard work out. R4 are again running another Novice Induction day in May at Blyton.

Gavin, it was your events that brought the circuit to my attention first.
The date we've picked worked well in the diary for 2013 but I'd of certainly joined you otherwise if I'd of been allowed.

Anyone with a Porsche would be allowed to our Blyton day, non PCGB members pay an excess premium. On the day, all are treated with the same respect. I hope to see you in April and who knows, maybe again in May. Keep an eye on R4 posts. The only thing we stipulate is no non Porsches on track.
Best of luck with the event!

Gavin

Hello All,

Just to help with your accomodation concerns;

Forest pines, very good accomodation and conference facilities. R4 used this for the last 2 years on the Wolds Tour; price can be negotiated less than advertised.

White Heather, Caenby Corner A15, about 7 miles away. We used this on the Red Arrows for our major functions. http://www.whiteheatheronline.com/

Premier inn, Scunthorpe just off A180 and about 10-12 miles. http://www.premierinn.com/en/hotel/SCUANC/scunthorpe?DCMP=KNC_D_BND&mckv=sbwRTAnGJ|pcrid|27913914111|kword|premier%20inn%20scunthorpe|match|e|plid|

Black Horse, Blyton. As previously mentioned, good clean cheap accomodation 3 minutes from the circuit.

Hemswell Court, just off Caenby Corner, about 12-15 miles. Former officers Mess RAF Hemswell. www.hemswellcourt.com/

The George, Kirton, 5 miles max, old coaching house. http://thegeorgekirton.co.uk/

Hope this helps. If you need directions to the circuit, let me know as the postcode does not work on Satnav, it sends you to the wrong place.

Gavin

Uptake is gently picking up for this event, please be aware though that this event is limited to only 50 cars!
You will be able to pop along and spectate though..[:)]
