I have recently seen one 981 Boxster S in the showroom fitted with my oddball flavour tyre Goodyear F1 Eagles [&o]ORIGINAL: chrisH As you have to keep the make and ratings the same on all 4 tyres to keep the warranty I didn't have any choice but to replace with Pirellis. I noticed when I was speccing my 981 Cayman that all the Boxsters and 991s on 20in rims in the showroom are shod with Pirelli P Zeros again[]

Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

Hi guys. I’ve put together a set of Boxster Spyder pictures. I don’t know why, I just wanted to. This is not intended to be a set of arty pictures, these are intended to be thought provoking pictures and some you will not like. Some will hopefully provoke thought in a few and others, maybe only in an individual. Some you will have seen before but hopefully some you have not. It’s taken much longer than I anticipated; some stuff I knew I wanted but took a while to find. Other stuff I stumbled across along the way and then that extended my thoughts. I must be sad or mad, but I’m satifised I’m seen most of what the internet has to offer on the Spyder There’s a huge disparity in the picture sizes but I felt some of the smaller ones were still worth including. Thanks to all the Spyder enthusiasts around the globe, without which many of these pictures would not be available. Enjoy and post any thoughts you have around each of these pictures. (With all these links there’s bound to be something broken, so bear with me) Early days

Thanks, lots of lurking on this thread, but I haven't contributed much. But as you've asked, I will give my thoughts on a couple of things! First of all, bucket seats, or the lack of them. When I bought the car, I was concerned that it didn't have them, but when I had a go in a Cayman R with them I hated how difficult they were to get out of and convinced myself that I didn't need them. Having lived with the sports seats for over six months now, I can't find anything to criticise and I love the fact that they are heated. However, I am having a severe case of bucket envy and really wish mine had them now! When I mentioned this to the salesman at the OPC the other day, he was amazed that anybody would want buckets, which may explain why so many Spyders have the sports seats - dealers ordered them that way! The other thing is PDK - in many ways it's superb, but I am having some difficulty in adjusting to using it in manual mode. The trouble is, when you put it in manual mode and you've had it on auto, it's so easy to forget that you've got to use the paddles to change up and before you know it you hit the limiter. At least in a manual you know what gear you're in at all times, it's not so obvious with PDK! Those things aside, I'm still loving it, although I have to admit to looking longingly at Jaguar XK-Rs on the internet!ORIGINAL: flat6 Welcome back homerdog How's it going with the Spyder?
The only broken link for me!! Am liking the Spanish girls [] Truly excellent work again flat6 - we should turn this thread into a reference book!Original: flat6 Stumbled across you online again rob. Where was this at?
When I have driven a PDK in manual mode I have found my brain / eyes / need to change gear are all out of sync and the best way round it for me was to not worry what gear I was in but using the rev counter I would click up as and when I wanted too. Unfortunately most OPC sales people always say leave it in auto and it will do exactly what needs to be done at exactly the right moment [&o] I always use my gears to slow ( I know it's all very un PC today []) but must confess on a recent PDK relaxed journey changing up in auto mode worked perfectly for me and I just used the paddle to shift down to keep my bad habit of saving pad wear and brake dust off alloys in working order [] After 20 minutes I concluded as much fun as the perfect down changes were I would still rather be in the dark ages and go with a stick shift and 3rd pedal Jaguar XK-Rs are so "heavy", wide, thirsty, front engined!, and completely opposite in every way to a light nimble focussed Spyder []... Take one for a VERY LONG test drive before you switch horsesORIGINAL: homerdog PDK - in many ways it's superb, but I am having some difficulty in adjusting to using it in manual mode. Is that right? I thought that the tyres simply had to be N rated? What if the right rating isn't available as the tyre has been replaced with a new rating?ORIGINAL: chrisHAs you have to keep the make and ratings the same on all 4 tyres to keep the warranty I didn't have any choice but to replace with Pirellis. I noticed when I was speccing my 981 Cayman that all the Boxsters and 991s on 20in rims in the showroom are shod with Pirelli P Zeros again[]ORIGINAL: flat6 Thanks Chris. I feel even better now[] I changed the rears on the Cayman at about 3mm. Just prior to changing them I did a track day as I thought that would finish them off. It didn't. The Michelins wear well and are good in the wet too. Still, I went an replaced them at 3mm. Literally 2 days later I got a screw in one of the new tyres but luckily it hadn't gone through as it was about an inch from the edge and would not be repaired. With these, i'll be running them until just above the legal limit i.e. I WILL remain legal. At £350 a tyre before discount, i'm going to get my money's worth in case the next time I change, the screw goes right through[]
Thanks Rob. The link no longer works for that pic. I've put in a little thumbnail pic for now so you can see which one it is. If you can send me a working link for that pic I will fix it. I think you're right about the dealers having a lot to do with the majority of the cars spec'd. Sounds like you just need to switch into a Spyder buckets and manual and you'd have the car that suits you best[] I had the same issues as you when working the PDK in manual mode and put it down to not having enough time with them. Whenever I swapped to manual mode, I wouldn't remember what gear I was in and it wasn't intuitive to look at the display. I think with a manual gear lever your brain automatically knows from where you positioned the lever. When flicking the paddle a few times, I lost count. But next time i'm in a PDK i'll be trying out daro's tip and working off the rev's alone to decide when to change up or down. We do that in a manual and just need to train out of the brain the relevance of actually knowing which gear it is. Well, that's the theory anyway. Hopefully i'll get a chance to try it out[]ORIGINAL: homerdogThanks, lots of lurking on this thread, but I haven't contributed much. I should've guessed that would've been the most thought provoking picture for you[8D] (By the way, the pics of the roof in the rain isn't my car[] ) Well, it's a better look that this[]ORIGINAL: daro911 flat6 that is not a good look on a Spyder [&:]
Crashed Spyder driver distracted by vomit inducing interior... Mustn't be my link for pic of my car! I have a CD of images from that day.
The cream wasn't a standard colour it was if I recall a £1500 option hence few to almost no takers Pictures I have seen of cream Spyders confirm it was a poor colour choice for Porsche to have offered on a Spyder for extra cash too [&o] http://dspyda.com/Spyder_Gallery/Pages/Cream_White.html
Yeah it's an odd colour for a racy car. I can only assume that it seemed to work when they assessed it. Would like to see for myself but I agree that such a soft colour seems a strange choice to offer. You're right that it was at additional cost. I meant it'll be the rarest colour bar PTS cars which will be one of one.

Aha! Good find. Last time I looked there, there wasn't much there. The silver wheels clash with it and the black looks better. Just needs a brown roof and perhaps the wheels in the Cognac colour that's available on the 981[8D] But, i'll stick with white[]ORIGINAL: daro911http://dspyda.com/Spyder_Gallery/Pages/Cream_White.html#6ORIGINAL: flat6 Yeah it's an odd colour for a racy car.
