Ahhhhhhh so you knew the next owner [&:]

Were you impressed enough by your PEC / GT4 test session that parting with the "R" was not as difficult after all despite the new cars electric steering and lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng ratios

I did not know the next owner, was just emailed and some one made an offer all happened quite fast, I did want to keep it, but I also wanted a route to a super car.

The GT4 choice is easy when you can get £30k over for it.

And yes it is not going to steer as well, but it's my daily and I have my Spyder for weekends ;-)

The R I was ready to move after 2.5 years, esp after making my Spyder amazing with £8k spend on it plus it having PCCB's, it's a mega drive.

but from 55 cars it's been the best car I have owned, I loved it.

I have been to see 3 cars I would swap the GT4 for to get into a super car, so I'll either love the GT4 and I'll know quite quick or I have £30k extra towards a super car :)

win win for me.

give it 2 weeks and I'll either have one of these 4

GT4

MP12

458

991 Turbo S

something more upmarket and don't care too much about feel or having an Auto as the gap to my Spyder will feel even more exciting come weekends.

Can i also drop in the mix - To those who have driven the new Spyder. Is it worth 15k-20k extra to change over the old one?

Phil

some have pulled out swapping , some have swapped, some have kept both. hard choice.

I love the feel of the 987.2 cars, I had to keep either the R or the Spyder when going for the GT4, they just feel more real to drive to me.

but having something new is a great feeling, issue is in 6 months will you regret the change ?

If you just factor in the extra kit that comes as standard on a 981 version ie PSE: Sports Chrono: Radio: 3.8L engine = 55 extra bhp: short shift: PTV: not to mention the more user friendly roof design I think most of your 15k figure is included in the spec plus a fresh 3 year warranty :ROFLMAO: and rumoured production run of circa 125-150 cars to help with depreciation

Not in my opinion. If you love your manual 987 you'll probably regret changing. New car is a good car, but very different to 987, left me feeling quite numb but all depends on what you want out of the car.

Its a hard one and i find my self in the lucky position again for a March slot for the new one :/

Are you going to bite the bullet and go for it then or is the jury still out [&:]

I have no idea! Haha.. Some people really like the new car, some like the old one better. I won’t be able to drive the car so I’m going in blind.

However i did go and see a white Spyder last night and spent a good hour looking around it. It’s nice, very nice and in my opinion more aggressive than the 987 Spyder. The engine sound with the exhaust switched on is amazing. It sounds epic!!

My Spyder would be the below with some undecided options. Mainly full leather and PCM.

White Bucket Seats Black Leather With Interior Package & Centre Console Trim In Leather ( Undecided ) Bi-Xenon Cruise Control ( Undecided ) Air Con Manual Heated Seat Smoking Package PCM (Undecided ) BOSE Mobile Prep Online Services Digital Radio Net-type wind deflector (Undecided)

Anything here i have missed? Don’t really need?

Phil

If you want a weekend only fun car with more driver feel keep the old one.

If you want a new car and less feel and a better roof when up ! (as imo it's not all good regarding the roof) buy the new one.

The old one is what is is, the new one is a bit stuck not being one thing or the other.

If you can buy new and keep old, that's the way forward, as the new one looks safe money.

But we are on a car forum you cannot always think resale, when we buy these cars for fun and a release from work, we only get 1 go at life.

It's a tough one to answer generically because anything is worth what you are prepared to pay based on how much you want it. Some will trade up without a moment's thought, because they want it that much. Some would not trade up without a moment's thought. Many will be in the middle. As others have said, they are different cars and may serve slightly different purposes, in terms of practicality and driving experience etc. I might not agree entirely as to what those differences are because I haven't driven the 981, but I expect what one offers the other does not. If you like what the old one offers over the new it's no contest as to cost of the upgrade. If you like what the new offers over the old then the old one is a league behind.

I've never had that kind of dilemma because my desire for a particular car never seems to be influenced by the car i've got. As long as I want my current car, nothing else sways me at all, even other cars already on my wish list. As soon as I don't feel I want my current car it's on the way out even if I'm undecided what to replace it with. I've never been swayed by a new release just because it's the new release, unless I actually want it AND already and independently don't want my current car.

I think the current supply if 987's to the market is not yet an indicator of how it will fare because some of the next wave of buyers will have had a choice of 987 and 981 and chose 987, so they've already chosen it over temptation of the new car so might hold onto them for longer.

Many a true word spoken again by you Flat 6. Once again you are on the button[;)]

What is the future for these cars? Well as I see it the 987 market is flooded currently, well compared to what it normal, whatever that is. Yes I guess a lot of people have desires on the new car but will they be able to get their hands on one?

By this time next year I expect the last of the 981 to be well on the way to new owners. From the indications we have the numbers will be restricted but as yet we don't know how many. Indication were that it would less than the 987 but currently with with a second batch of these cars being made some potential owners who were disappointed may not be.

So once the market settles we will have two fantastic cars for a budding spydermen to choose from. We know the numbers for the 987 and I think (I don't know) the 981 will be just shy of that)

So to prices, what will happen. I guess until next spring prices will continue to mark time, or fall slightly on the 987. However, my prediction, and it is only a prediction is that once the production of the 981 is completed and te last delivery made it will after an initial drop start to rise in value. At this point expect the 987 spdyer to follow suit. We are after all talking about limited production cars, with special looks and performance, both flat six (which will not be in production after this) and the latter one has a 911 engine onboard.

With two limited production cars I would guess again that you could be onto a winner. But as with all things they can go up as well as down. But One thing is for sure, your investment in the joy of ownership will prove to be a special.

Me too.

I have just had the phone call and a new one is on the way so I have a 987.2 Spyder to sell if

any body interested.

yes one of my clients has been offered a new one.

that's a lot of new ones for a 150 run, but I guess many many people dropped out when there was no PDK

every one I have met who has been cash rich enough to buy one said "I wanted it in PDK" shows were the new market is going and where new cars are heading.

I guess a lot of of these "PDK" people decided to pull the plug. As I said the 981 seems a bit in no mans land :-( neither one thing or the other.

i was certainly a " plug puller" at lack of PDK. Having seen new car in flesh at Goodwood and Frankfurt I have to say it is a good looking machine and I would jump from my 987 Spyder in an instant if PDK wereto come along (fat chance!!)

No one will say.

we won't know numbers for another 12 months now until we see the dvla sites.
