Trying to piece together what everyone is saying. Maybe the 3.8 with more torque gives quicker in-gear acceleration and that is what can be felt making it quicker? But overall it's not much quicker than a 987 in car lengths over a reasonable distance, regardless of maybe needing extra gear changes / making the older car's engine work harder (& working an engine harder also gives the extra perception of slower)? If so, then I get that i.e. newer car feels quicker & backed up by paper stats is a bit quicker & gives more shove when you prod the throttle, but what actually happens in a race is what Mr D and Mr Fagan describe i.e. gap not that big?

this year he did come in his yellow Spyder and I was in the GT4 we lapped the same but we both worked hard at the end of the day for the fast laps.
He is also a nutter lol and pushes that SPyder to 105% using all the PTV and tricks (I think he wears out rears disks every 3 or 4 track days ! )

Torque make it feel faster as you get that extra push, bit like people saying the BMW 3l D is very fast but then you race one and after the initial shove they get left behind.
these car you do tend to ride the torque rather than rev the engine.

yes it is quicker to a ton, but it's so small its not notable on the road like you think (unless at santa pod) !! 0.5 seconds is laughable and unless the road is straight as a die one cannot keep WOT any way in any car for more than 2 or 3 seconds.
we must like different things as I dislike the EPS and the nanny fake PTV which ruins the 981 on track and just make it eat rear disks !!! but makes an ave driver look a hero
as for the lazy engine, there are multiple dyno charts and people showing a lazy engine above 6.5k revs, it's a detuned engine with a nice shove at 5k but a hugh dead spot below and a dire tail off at red line.
stock vs a tuned GT4 or Spyder dyno below.
the torque drops off like a **** @ 4.8k and then starts to picks up again at 5k then peak BHP stock is at 6.3k !!!
I try and keep the car working between 5.4 and 6.4k as it feels strong there and changing at 6.4k drops you back nice into that torque wave.
Just back from 4 days driving around north Wales in the Spyder. Saw 2 other Porsches in the time there. Got back, and had a short trip into Harrogate. Saw 6 other Porsches.
It would appear that Porsches are more popular for posing in town than blatting around the A and B roads! I suppose I knew that already, but it seems a shame and waste of vehicular talent.

For what its worth I have been very impressed with my GTS it may be slower than my previous cars GT3, RS, Turbo S, I was unsure when I bought it but not anymore, it is probably all the sports car you need for the road, it comes alive at sensible speeds, the Spyder may be a little quicker but it is small margins, the £30K buys mainly exclusivity imho.
I took my GTS on track with Lotus on Track at Donnington recently and it went very well but I could not keep up with the V6 Exige's (possibly down to the pilot) but this car will be used mainly on the road and I know which I would sooner have !
The point I am making is that it will always be horses for courses and I guess if we all think our car is the best then we should all be happy chappies and it should ensure good forum debate going forwards !
