Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!
Paul please note my roof has only ever been up once since May 2016! just to stretch it out a bit so mine has no signs (yet) as its not been used in anger ever
daro

yes, noted.

We have just passed 6,000 miles in our Spyder and I would hazard a guess that 4,500 or 5,000 of those miles have also been with the roof down. It would be a waste not to have the roof down as often as possible :) But still have one corner torn!

Looking at your pictures and again looking at my roof just now, after an hour cleaning session;-), the stitching at the offending point is extremely weak looking and flimsy feeling I get the impression not much tugging needed and mine would also come adrift too. The execution looks more Lotus like than Porsche []

Over on the SOC forum, they seem to be saying that porsche are taking a hard line on cars that are outside the warranty period (2 years in germany).

Have no experience of Porsche GB though, so they may be more customer satisfaction focussed

Ragley Hall Concours - 23rd Sept

Any other Spyder owners planning on attending this event?

Have never been, so what are peoples' impressions? Worth attending?

Definitely worth going too and sadly for me its clashes with my return home after a 20 day USA road trip which probably means its going to be cracking weather too[8D]

Hi all, my 987 Spyder (Daro911's ex) is entered into the Ragley Hall 2017 Concours (am I mad??) This will be the 4th National PCGB Concours on the trot, having achieved 3rd place in 2014 and 2015 with Daro and also reaching the dizzy heights of 3rd place again with me in 2016. Hopefully next month, I'll achieve even greater heights, as I think I now know what the car may have been down-marked on. It would be exceptional to get another 3rd place, but having just returned from a 1700 mile round trip through France, Germany and Belgium with the R23 club, it will probably take me 3 weeks to get her ready again for Concours (yes I know, I must be mad !). Still, I am now semi-retired and have the time to care for the car and at least I do use her and I get an extreme amount of pleasure out of it whilst doing so. I actually enjoy keeping her spotless as well.

Well, Sky News says another heatwave is allegedly on its way to the UK. Hoorah, hoorah - more chances to get the little beauty out before I start the serious 3 weeks of deep, deep cleaning and detailing.

Yes I will be at Ragley Hall with my 981.

What to Expect

Much already written in Porsche Post. Its the Stately Home static display of the Clubs Registers and Regions..

This will also be the venue for the Clubs National Concours event, so expect to see some of the club finest examples.

The event starts on the Friday with a Black Tie Dinner. Derek Bell will be in attendance throughout the weekend.

Porsche Cars will be have a stand. I'm sure much more and details in current and Past Post Porsche.

Hi any problems identified with the 987 spyder roof I need to be looking out for?

None that I am aware of, but I am only going on what I have read on the Spyder Owners Club and PCGB forums

Vic

Your Blacks Tent is good for a few mile's yet[8D] .TBO I prefer the design of the 987 hood much more streamlined and you can put items in without unfastening the flaps .

If I recall correctly cars built before May 2010 had a recall for replacement design centre locking catch but your Porsche Centre can confirm this and whether your car was one of the recalls etc

Thanks B. Certainly need a roof in these parts 💦 ......very jealous of all this talk of driving with a roof down! Hopefully see you Sunday.....let's hope for a dry day!

Thanks Paul and Daro. My car is a november 2011 so fingers crossed all ok 👍

Hi Finally checked my roof and both sides are okay although only done 1500 miles with roof mostly in the 'down' position. Stretched up while garaged but not the same as exposure to illegal UK speeds on German roads. What concerns me is that with low milage cars the problem will manifest itself when the standard warranty period has expired. I suppose the solution is to only drive with the roof open; not such a bad solution.

I will be interested to hear Porsche UK response to the problem roofs.

Any Good Bad or Fugly news back from Porsche Cars GB reference the roof fin tears reported on here

Off to USA for 3 weeks so once again struggled like crazy to get the roof shut [] when I get back I shall try and see if it will close as designed ie one man job when I get back as today without assistance the hook wasn't going to connect at all[&:]

I hope its just me leaving it down 24/7 and not an actual alignment fault which I will have to sort on 1st service next May
