Balljoint questions.

I know what you mean...[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]

It's a track car, it doesn't need paint [:D] - and the strut brace was free [;)][FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]BTW ask Rick about his top mounts if he doesn't post here as I'm sure it is another typical Lindsay "nearly fits" part even for the stock size springs.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

yeah, but track car's normally don't have THAT much rust! [;)]

I'll see if Rick pipes up. If not I'll drop him a mail over the weekend. ta.

There's no rust on it, it's got a gold finish that's a little bit grubby and worn is all. I guess the picture makes it look worse than it is.

Just called Porshce Leeds for a strut top price, they want £250+VAT per side!
I'm seriously thinking of the KLA solid mount at £100+VAT for a pair from ESS.

In your opinions will these mounts make much difference to the handling/ride of the car?
Will I have to think about changing any other components?

£100 or £500, no-brainer really.

Daz.

Yes. Beaky doesn't tram line any more. He did have new tyres at around the same time, so these could be a contributing factor, but he does seem generally tauter.

I decided that I wanted to change after driving WUF as he has very direct handling. WUF made Beaky feel decidedly blancmange like in comparison. Subsequent to fitting the top mounts the perceived difference between Beaky and WUF is much reduced.

Hey all,

I've just rebuilt my O/S ball joint for the second time with the rennbay kit, the upper bushing had pulled slightly through the top of the control arm. So I'm looking at getting a rebuilt arm from Hartech, anyone else got theirs from Hartech ?

Whilst under the car over the weekend I noticed that the N/S control arm has already been replaced with the later 968 type (has a mount on the front of the arm for the air dam). Although I can't find the part numbers for them anywhere ?!?

Did a search on PET and came up with nothing... hmmmmmm.......

Gave the front suspension a good wiggle and now have hardly any play at all on the O/S but a tiny amount on the N/S so am thinking my Strut top mounts need replacing as the movement appears to be coming from that direction. Anybody used the solid spherical mounts from ESS ? Sounds like a steal at £100+VAT per pair compared to the astronomical price for the upgraded turbo items from Porsche.

Also got my new 968 castor mounts today so got to install those at some stage ;)

Cheers

IIRC, someone came up with the number for the brake duct on rennlist. I'm just off out with the dogs, so if you can't find it, i'll have a look later.

As I said, I'm looking at a set op top bearings for mine too, the ESS ones at £100 are a steal, but equally, the Lindsey adjustable ones are $250 (about £180?). I've had a lot of contact with Dave, so maybe I could set up a group buy for a few sets. anyone interested....?

I've just ordered a set of solid mounts from ESS. I thought the play was in the balljoint but when it's all dismantled, it's coming from the strut tops, both side the same. balljoints seem ok.
I've also ordered a strut brace and a set of poly bushes for the wishbone and ARB. Should tighten things up.

Hi Mike,
Its ok I'm not after the air dam part number just confused as to the part numbers on my control arms :D as these don't seem to match with the part numbers in PET.

I've just been looking at the Lindsey Racing top mounts and am not too keen on the ride height being altered plus am not really after that kind of adjustability. So think I will probably go for the mounts from ESS to.

I did and it isn't. I was just about to jump in, in fact.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]I am now on set 3 of PowerFlex front bushes. I also now need a new pair of rear front bushes as the movement allowed by the failing front ones has allowed the arm to move back enough to damage the rears too.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Basically what I think happens is that the bush doesn't seem to fill the gap completely between the arm and the gap in the crossmember so it moves around and acts like a slide-hammer on the back half of the front bush. PoweFlex are looking at it for me and ultimately I expect my car will go to them so they can make a set that fit.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]In the interim I would advise against getting poly bushes, albeit that there is a 968CS (MikeH's old one I think) and Big Dave's S2 running them successfully.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

MMMmm.. worrying.
I'll give Porsche a call see how much they want for a set of original ones.
Is there any other alternative? I don't want to reassemble with the old bushes..

To my knowledge Porsche don't supply new bushes, only complete arms. The alternative I have decided to take, once PowerFlex have fixed the problem (or if I have to give up on them, but they are being very good so that shouldn't happen) is Charley Arms with Rose joints. I will then sell on my OE arms with poly bushes.

try racers edge or weltmeister. both stocked by paragon products in the states.

type 911
design 911
porscheshop

All sell the bushes for the control arms.

Cheers

Got the struts stripped down and there is play between the stainless shaft and the strut housing. I assume these should be solid and have no play.
Are these the cartridge type? 951.343.031.05 (Sachs) or full strut replacement.
Should the cap unscrew or pry off.
